to let you know how men use the Equality Act to undermine women's spaces

This is Liam. Liam was a 17-year-old Harry Potter fan (photo here from his Twitter).

twitter.com/iamLilyTM/status/639376063655739392

Liam doesn't appear to have too much interest in running, but nonetheless got very upset that there are women-only runs, in addition to the thousands that are open to men.

He thinks this is similar to apartheid, or Rosa Parks being told to go to the back of the bus. twitter.com/iamLilyTM/status/637324189733666816 (August 2015)

Being kept out annoys Liam. (And a lot of other MRAs alike who get REALLY angry at not being allowed to join, despite their being literally thousands of other places to run.)

But wait! An idea! If Liam says he is a girl, he will be able to go wherever he likes including all those women-only runs he was so cruelly rebuffed from.

After all, at one time the Race for Life was able to be kept relatively man-free, as Cancer Research said:

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20120528181520/raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/utilities/faqs/who-can-enter/index.html" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20120528181520/raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/utilities/faqs/who-can-enter/index.html

"Under the Gender Recognition Act 2004 we are happy to accept entries from individuals who possess a female birth certificate or gender recognition certificate. However, as Race for Life is a female-only event we have a promise and responsibility to our female supporters to ensure our Race for Life events are represented by women only. Therefore, if you do not have either a gender recognition certificate or a female birth certificate, we are afraid you will not be able to participate in Race for Life. "

But this didn't last long! The Equality Act 2010 came along and it said

"A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process [of changing gender]". So anyone who is even THINKING about changing gender is protected, and you better be careful about crossing them.

So Raceforlife quickly deleted the requirement for a GRC, and just to confirm this.

twitter.com/CharlotteMedler/status/604486954785357824

"Hey @raceforlife what is your opinion on pre-op women running? Does having a wang mean I can't do it? Let me know, pls."

The reply:
"hello, transgender women are welcome to take part in our events, so we'd love to have you :)"

Message has got through loud and clear to Liam, a few months later Liam says he is a girl called Lily (this declaration isn't really accompanied by any action, though he has had one Gender clinic appointment, where he got some handouts about hormones).

He tells his school. Some people, including his younger sister, are unhappy about his behaviour.

But not to worry, he looks up 'solicitor' on Google, and finds a firm of solicitor who represent teenage Harry Potter fans wanting access to women & girls spaces, completely for free! www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwick/this-trans-teen-threatened-her-school-with-legal-action-to-w Awesome! Free lawyers!Totally no consequences!

Emboldened, he moves on, with his MRA activity, getting a woman kicked kicked out of a neighbouring constituency Labour party:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5087503/All-Labour-officials-local-committee-resign.html

Then he's elected women's officer in his own CLP.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/trans-teenager-lily-madigan-voted-in-as-a-labour-women-s-officer-mwchkhzq8

Then people point out that he seems to own a Twitter account with blowjob, rape, Jimmy Savile & curry jokes. He says it's fake then it's pointed out it's dated 2013 so unlikely to be, and finally he blames his younger brother for the acocunt and says his family is racist, sexist and homophobic and that's why he has moved on from them.

www.kentlive.news/news/kent-news/transgender-labour-womens-officer-rochester-817234

Said brother is not impressed and calls him out publicly for throwing him under the bus

twitter.com/madigan_smurf/status/933760359810428928

Lily/Liam is a big fan of Jeremy Corbyn, who for his own part has said that, as a genuine 100% authentic transwoman, Lily/Liam can do whatever he wants. www.facebook.com/MedwayLabour/posts/1506650112756340

As if all these weren't enough, he's now being sponsored for a Women in Leadership programme in by Tris Osborne, a (male, natch) Labour candidate in Luton. twitter.com/cllrtrisosborne/status/934368405993508864

Rosa Parks eat your heart out eh? Look who's got the last laugh now! Silly women wanting a race without men in it!

very pleased to hear that men are now women and wonder if they'd like to make their way across to my work-place (venerable and traditional establishment) where they can get themselves patronised, undermined, overlooked and underpaid for, oh, several decades at a time. Perhaps I'll just go in Monday and declare myself a man and await my pay rise.

Well Lying, there is a progression here:

2004 - can become declared transgender after process of verification and two years living in new role (but still can have a penis - it's purely pscyhological)
2010 - anyone who is even thinking about being transgender has legal protections
2018 (proposed law) - anyone can declare themselves transgender with no verification whatsoever

So you went from

  1. very determined people with penises could go in women's spaces
  2. anyone with a penis could enter women's spaces, but women could object if they jumped through hoops and paid lawyers (lawyers only work pro boner for men, naturally)
  3. women have no rights at all

Pisa
Wow thanks for all that info. It sounds so far fetched to want to be a woman because you are a MRA. Vile to compare not letting men run in a race with the racial denigration and segregation of non whites.

LOL@ butchy

I don’t think anyone has a problem with transexuals at all. But it’s getting ridiculous now when posts that were created specifically in recognition of women are now being handed over to boys. The fact that he even applied for it shows arrogance and a “see look at me, I’m a woman” Its like me applying for the post of i danno head of NASA astrophysics department, i know sweet fa about physics. This isn’t about using the post to help represent women its about him. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure there are women who want posts like that only to springboard their careers but at least they will have a vague idea about being a woman and the challenges women may face. I have always been sceptical about women only posts etc but the recent allegations around assualt and inappropriate behaviour mean we need to be taking womens voices seriously. This is not doing that. Its laughable

Its a joke post as far as Lab are concerned, they are using it as a “ohhhhh look how progressive we are” thing rather than saying “ok women have serious concerns that should be addressed” like ohhh i don’t know, problems with access to female health services, maternity leave, employment rights etc that are specific to the female experience.

@ichbineinstasumer, oh dear, it doesn't work like that. You do know, don't you, that the one thing that's exempt from transgender equality is male primogeniture in the peerage? If a woman who happened to be the eldest child of a peer should declare herself a man she would not take precedence over her younger brother. He would still get the title (and probably the money). I wonder why that should be?

Battleax · 25/11/2017 16:16

I don't understand this implication of the 2010 Equality Act. I see that a man is protected against discrimination for proposing to transition, in the sense that he can't be fired by his employer for example. But I don't understand the interpretation that a man who proposes to transition immediately becomes a woman for legal purposes. Surely that still requires a GRC?

Its interesting that it's having that effect, isn't it?

I think we're living in an age where being thought intolerant, and certainly being targeted by screeching TRA hordes, is more worrying to organisations that civil suit itself, maybe?

Thanks again, pisacake, I snorted at 'pro-boner' but only in an ironic fashion. It really is a depressing business and I have no idea if or how the tides could be turned so that women have enduring rights.

ThePinkPankter, I'm not sneering, I'm just pointing out his interests were:

rape jokes
Harry Potter

and now he claims to represent women. Clearly there's little in the former that prepares you for the latter.

There ARE teenage girls who would have a background that would be much better suited.

But Labour don't give a shit about teenage girls, it's 100x more important to validate Liam's narcissism.

Parliament missed a trick recently in rejecting targets to increase female MPs. All they had to do was get a bunch of men to identify as women and it’s jobs for the boys and business as usual.

This is all so depressing. Everyone in any position of power is either wanting to signal how progressive they are (without a care to the impact on women and girls) or too scared to speak out.

Thanks, pisacake.

There's no understanding of what it's like to be a woman, nor any respect for us, either. Sadly, there are more and more vocal people like Liam, and all the rights garnered by women over my lifetime (some 60+ years) are now being trampled over and smashed.

It's very depressing. I have no idea how it's going to be possible to put things right again.

Oh don't worry about pink, Pisa, they're either a man or they're a woman that has drunk the cool aid. Did you not realise that when a man says he's a woman, all woman should believe them, because they're men and men are always right? 😒

It really takes the term mansplaining to a whole othe level, doesn't it.

Report
hackmum · 25/11/2017 16:34

Thanks so much for laying this all out so clearly, pisacake.

It has become increasingly obvious that a large proportion of people who campaign for trans rights are simply men's rights activists wanting to undermine women's hard-fought rights. In the case of Liam/Lily, he doesn't even have the intelligence to cover his tracks.

Unbelievably, he seems nonetheless to have pulled the wool over the eyes of the Labour Party plus people like Owen Jones. How they can be dim enough to be taken in by all this crap is just extraordinary.

But yeah, standing up for women's rights makes you a transphobe, apparently.

Yes, you're right. My university has adopted very restrictive policies on pronouns, including invented non-binary pronouns. This was demanded by a small minority of progressive students, while most people (like me at the time) were completely unaware of these policies. But these policies could now be used to prevent the expression of gender-critical analyses.

It is the emperor's new genitals (exactly the same as the old ones, in case you were wondering), isn't it. A smirking man claims he's a woman and he attracts an army of supporters:

  • men who secretly resented that affirmative action stuff anyway and are only too keen to toss a 'women's officer' job and a 'women in leadership' sponsorship at him as a form of malicious compliance (guess how many actual women Tris Osborne has supported for leadership awards: ZERO)
  • handmaidens who bat their eyelashes at him (comments on his FB along the lines of - 'I love your makeup can you teach me')

I don't think it's a surprise that men are supporting this misogyny, it's just a form of revenge on women; the sad thing is the brainwashed women who go along with it (although in the case of Liam/Lily it is mostly men, surprise surprise)
