Good afternoon ladies.

I hope I'm not imposing here. During lunch, sister has put me on mums net chat. We would be very grateful for a quick survey please. I have come out to buy the item below as a gift for my wife who is also mother to our 5 children. However, my sister is confusing me by suggesting a different item. I only have until 3pm today.

I feel the item she is proposing looks slightly like a handcuff and also rather plain, but I'm open to feedback. She will post a photo in a moment.

Many thanks

Carlos.

To me, the ‘more fun necklace you’ve posted looks like a snowflake and so more seasonal.

SassySausageSupper · 24/11/2017 13:44

The first necklace is beautiful. Go with girl gut.

ALLthedinosaurs · 24/11/2017 13:44

Nooo.. the second necklace looks like Frozen costume jewellery! Go with your gut, Carlos!

SassySausageSupper · 24/11/2017 13:44
  • your gut! 😳
HermionesRightHook · 24/11/2017 13:45

Ooh these are nice: www.boodles.com/blossom-large-pave-pendant-wg/ - I like asymmetry of them better.

It's not really to my taste, that shop, though, but presumably you know she likes it?

n0ne · 24/11/2017 13:46

Both are too blingy for me but I prefer the bracelet

thecatsthecats · 24/11/2017 13:46

Fire your sister. She's awful at this.

Trinity66 · 24/11/2017 13:47

I much prefer the bracelet

flutterby12 · 24/11/2017 13:48

Your first choice necklace. It's lovely.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 24/11/2017 13:49

Having looked at the site it does look better on the model.

No to the second necklace suggested.

Don't like the locking idea (dh was wtf?!?)

I will peruse while I scoff my itsu noodles.

mumof06darlings · 24/11/2017 13:49

First necklace wins no question
The second necklace is awful
The bracelet is just creepy

Marmelised · 24/11/2017 13:51

I thought both looked a bit tacky - then I read down and saw the prices Shock. I’m with whoever said they’d prefer a car!

DownTheChimney · 24/11/2017 13:52

I'm sorry that you came onto this site and had to read some of those sad, pathetic and uneducated replies.

Huh? Confused

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/11/2017 13:53

First necklace.

Second is gopping and the bracelet isnt very attractive anyway but the "locking it on" thing is horrible.

RatOnnaStick · 24/11/2017 13:54

GO WITH YOUR INSTINCT. Your sister is swaying you from what you seem to be sure about deep down. Don't be persuaded.

BertieBotts · 24/11/2017 13:54

Grin I love this thread. Glitterball

HermionesRightHook · 24/11/2017 13:54

On the off chance that you're my husband, get yourself down to Van Cleef & Arples and get me these instead please: www.vancleefarpels.com/content/vca/eu/europe/en/home/collections/jewelry/flora/lotus/vcarp0zv00-lotus-openwork-earrings-mini-model.html

ALSO where the hell have you been hiding all that money from DH? I WANT A NEW CAR.

Anatidae · 24/11/2017 13:54

If she prefers more intricate jewellery then the necklace. I do love a bangle but there’s something about the idea of being locked into one that’s disturbing (although I’ve tried one like this on and can slip out of it, it’s not easy to do so.)

Does she prefer white gold? What colour are her wedding rings for example? Is that necklace the style she wears? There’s something a little bit Art Deco about it which I like. The bangle is a different style completely, so perhaps you need to take a look at what your wife wears day to day?

So it’s ok. However... it’s quite staid in some ways. Have you looked at some of the smaller independent designers? Liberty at the moment has some very interesting and beautiful things in.

With that kind of budget you can get something spectacular.

One last thing - wherever you get it from make sure it can be swapped if your wife wants to. Jewellery is very individual

diddl · 24/11/2017 13:55

I prefer bracelets/bangles, although don't like the one linked to.

If your wife likes necklaces, get the necklace, if not, look for an intricate bracelet!

bettytaghetti · 24/11/2017 13:56

Agree both necklaces are tacky. The Cartier Love bangle is classic and she will love it. (Are you reading DH?! Hint, hint!) The only thing is you have to get the right size; do you have any idea how big your wife's wrist is? Some people prefer to wear it loose and some prefer it closer fitting.
I could suggest a much more classic line of jewellery if you would prefer a necklace, and has the unusual benefit (for jewellery anyway) of holding it's value. PM me if you want.

HermionesRightHook · 24/11/2017 13:56

If intricate and more filigree-y styles are her thing then definitely she will prefer the necklace.

friendlycat · 24/11/2017 13:57

For me it's the bracelet. BUT I would prefer to receive something that YOU had chosen yourself. Therefore, it should be the necklace that you want to give to your wife.

Anatidae · 24/11/2017 13:57

Or get thee to Chaumet if you’re loaded...

This is simply beautiful www.chaumet.com/jewellery/l-epi-de-ble-de-chaumet-bracelet-083258

I’ve no idea how much it is, clearly one of those places where if you have to ask you can’t afford it. Look at that though, the workmanship...
.... sigh....

AnaWinter · 24/11/2017 13:58

The bracelet 100%. It is very similar to the Cartier one. Not keen on the necklace.

randomer · 24/11/2017 13:59

Neither. How old is she
