Dh wants it 17 degrees where as I like at a comfortable 21 or so.What temp have you got it on right now? Am I being 'nesh' as he says? ( We are from South Yorkshire for those who don't recognise that term) I know this isn't the most riveting of threads so I'll apologise now 😁

Am I the only person who turns the heating off at night? Confused

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/11/2017 13:15

On when we’re cold, off when we’re not. The thermostat is pointless, so I just turn it up until we feel the warmth. The windows are double glazed, there are curtains at the front door and the windows. It’s just a ridiculously cold house.

Having said that, it’s really bright here today, but the wind is really killing off any chance of warming the place up.

midnightflowers · 26/11/2017 13:22
  1. Although I would like it on 30 Grin
HunterHearstHelmsley · 26/11/2017 13:26

23-24 seems just right. Off at night generally, set to come on at 5.30am

RoganJosh · 26/11/2017 13:26

20 during the day, but I put it up to 21 if I’m cold.
It’s set to 13 overnight, so is on but rarely kicks in.

Nancy91 · 26/11/2017 13:31

23, I'm always freezing

peachgreen · 26/11/2017 13:32

18 during the day, not on at all overnight. And my heating bills are still £150 a month. Bah.

AprilLady4 · 26/11/2017 13:40

Cambionome I turn ours off at night too, otherwise get a dreadful headache.
About 22 during the day.

We had a new boiler in May and I won't tell DH how it works, or he'd go round turning everything off all the time and we'd all freeze. (He's from NI and likes it really cold.) Grin

IHaveACuntingPlan · 26/11/2017 13:55

I keep turning our heating down a notch and dh keeps turning it up. It's currently set to just above 16°C but I might turn it down a bit more. This is not out of choice though; I'd much rather have it set at 22-24°C but our gas bill is due to land mid-Jan and we have no money to pay it.

AnnDerry · 26/11/2017 14:05

Usually 18 in the day (assuming someone is at home), up to 20 in the evening if we are just sitting down, no heating on overnight. We wear layers as much as possible but I spend a lot of time at the computer for work and I need warm hands.

However our boiler has broken so currently we have no heating in the entire house apart from a gas fire in the living room, and a small oil filled radiator in the room where I work. The only issue I've had with it is getting out of the shower in the morning - it reminds me of my bathroom at university (18th century listed building with 19th century single glazed windows and no radiator) and it is bloody awful.

TwoBlueFish · 26/11/2017 14:10

18.5 at the moment and never over 20. Over the last week or so the Heating has been on for 2 to 3 hours a day.

I set it at 22. DH keeps raising it to about 25 which is way too hot. Then moaning that its too hot?!

cricketballs3 · 26/11/2017 14:15

This is the one thing that it was under the 'divorceable' reasons I would have LTB year's ago Grin; I'm nesh and love heat, 'D'H will walk in from work with 4 warm layers on and turns down the thermostat cue me turning it back up and so on all night

gingergenius · 26/11/2017 14:29

Around 16-18 here too and off at night

Crunchymum · 26/11/2017 14:41

Heating is off and thermostat is reading 20c

Mine is weird though. It can be bloody freezing and thermostat never seems to drop below 19c.

We just turn heating on / off when needed.

GunnyHighway · 26/11/2017 14:44

Ok my house my boy will sit playing on the console in his pants will my oldest will be in fleece pyjamas with a dressing down on under a sherpa fleece lined blanket.

I am of the put a jumper on school of thought though the jumper is free after all

GunnyHighway · 26/11/2017 14:45

In my house 😩

Candog · 26/11/2017 14:54

Just dress for the winter, vest and wool jumper. Why waste all that energy and contribute more to global warming? 16 degrees is plenty warm enough, and heating off at night. When did heating on at night become a thing?Hmm

colleysmill · 26/11/2017 15:11

I think it depends on your house. Ours used to be an ice block in summer and winter although it's been transformed over the years with cavity wall insulation and new windows.

I've just checked and the hall thermostat is reading 17 and kitchen 19.9. Conservatory is 16. Heating not on but the log burner is lit with a low fire. Feels fine although I've got my slippers on.

Overnight ours is on but programmed to kick in if it drops below 14c
Day time again programmed for 12c and then 17 before everyone gets in. Goes off if we are in and have lit the fire.

The log burner has been a game changer

Ruffian · 26/11/2017 15:18

when did heating on at night become a thing?

Yes, when?? Shock
Our heating doesn't come on 'til 4pm but our last bill was £93 for the month - if I had it on overnight there's no way we'd be able to afford it.

Mehfruittea · 26/11/2017 15:36
  1. DH in his pants, me under a blanket. I’m defo nesh.
Vitalogy · 26/11/2017 15:55

19 here. Need a throw when sitting though.

Vitalogy · 26/11/2017 15:57

I thought nesh was a Black Country saying :-) not heard it for years, nice to here it again.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/11/2017 16:45

when did heating on at night become a thing? I suspect it was when thermostats got timing programmes making it unnecessary to physically switch it off!

Seriously, I think (hope) this is just a matter of semantics!
