To think why moan about sending your child to a faith school?

We are lucky in that where we live schools are undersubscribed and you have a very good choice of 3 primary schools 2 of which are faith (CofE) and the other isn’t.
We have so many parents at the school who moan about the fact it’s too goddy 🙄 or that there is a nativity play as they don’t believe. Worst thing I think is how they tell their children this who then tell my children they are stupid for believing in god and Jesus!
I just wonder why they would send their children here because they DO have a choice! I don’t get it?

I'm not a Christian but it's annoying that so many atheists forget their values as soon as it comes to schools.

So could the one school take every non c of e kid?

People who moan when they have real choice are just rude. People whose children are rude to other children for believing have poor parents. But lots of people do not have non faith options and that is wrong.

In your case no yanbu but in lots of areas the choice is faith school or no school. If I had to send my child to a faith school I would moan.

My dd is in a rc school and the amount of moaning about it is unreal.

About a quarter of state primary schools are C of E. In many cases, especially if you live more rurally, you have no real choice: the only local school is a faith school. As an atheist, I think it is wrong and was sometimes unhappy when christianity became too dominant at our primary school. One of the factors in choosing our village over a neighbouring one was that the religious aspect seemed less important. Unfortunately that changed somewhat when the head changed. Having said that, I wouldn't have complained about a nativity - that is part of our shared culture.

Agree with PP. Religious schools are a joke. Maybe OP needs to ask why they chose that school. I assume they have their reasons.

Also what's wrong with other kids challenging the "beliefs" of your children? It's bad enough you bring them up on this utter nonsense but then you complain when their peers talk sense to them? In an increasingly secular world they will have to get used to it. And so will you.

That hacks me off. My dh is Muslim and obviously we are raising the dcs as Muslim. There are two excellent schools in our area, one being C of E. I chose not to send the dcs there because I respect they are trying to raise dcs with Christian values and I don't want that. A Muslim friend chose to send her kids there and criticised us for choosing it saying 'THEY can't make the kids doing anything'. I thought that was a fucking appalling attitude when there was a perfectly good secular school down the road. It's like some people want to make life difficult for others.

DDs pre school is a faith pre school. We don’t have a faith. We chose this one because of how well they interact with the children etc. Flip side of that is when they go to church for harvest/Easter service/Christmas etc we suck it up.

But should non-faith children have 1/3 of the choice of schools? It's farcical.

It must be annoying when the best/most convenient school is pushing an agenda you don't agree with.

I would moan too. I find it hard to believe anyone sending their DC is a CofE school is complaining about a nativity though 🤔

I think it is just a lack of respect for other peoples beliefs.
I went to a Catholic school as a child but was not Catholic and my mother always taught me to respect other people's views and to take part.

And i worked in a Catholic school and yes people do object to the nativity etc and some keep thier their children off during church visit days.
It's a shame but tolerance and respect for others is lacking sadly

Our preschool managed to do a whole nativity play (in church) without one mention of God or Jesus (just "a very special baby") which was impressive but somehow bizzare.

I'm not at all religious (although brought up going to faith schools) but I'll be sending my children to the same schools as I attended. The none faith schools where we live aren't great and the faith primary school feeds into the outstanding faith high school. It's a no brainer for me, I'm happy to go along with a bit of religion if it means my kids get a good education.

I believe the OP means that people are complaining that the nativity play is happening at all. Not about who is playing what.

I agree faith should be respected but so should lack of faith Rainbow. Expecting an atheist to pray or attend church or follow a set of beliefs they don't subscribe to is not respectful.
