To wonder why everything has got unicorns all over it?

Is this a metaphor for something, or a cultural reference that has passed me by?

Why can't I buy children's clothes, wrapping paper, birthday cards, christmas decorations, anything, without it having glittery unicorns all over it? My local bakery has cupcakes with horns and closed eyes with long lashes.

What does it mean?? Confused

MsHarvey DS1 says that "keep calm" ended poorly! 😂

Sniv · 23/11/2017 20:11

Yes, Mermaids have been here all year haven't they? "I'd rather be a mermaid" and turquoise glitter on everything.

A good friend was really into the moustache fad - she even had a moustache themed party where everyone had to wear a moustache, the cake had a moustache, moustaches were added to all her family pictures hanging round the walls, etc, etc.... I did think it was funny when, during the same period she complained like hell that her boyfriend grew an actual real moustache on his face Grin

Floellabumbags · 24/11/2017 01:18

DH grew a moustache for Movember a few years ago. It was a proper big Zapata. Turns out I have a bit of a thing for a tache.

With the huge interest in Pokemon we might see a big rise in Manga and more bloody rip-off Pusheen crap. I like Manga. Pusheen is beyond me.

KC225 · 24/11/2017 02:19

Unicorns - stabby little sods.

wasMissD · 24/11/2017 03:13

If kids like unicorns, fair enough.
I'll be honest though- can't get my head around adults being into them. Or into anything aimed at kids like wearing glittery Disney clothes.
And PP mentioning gin and prosecco on everything- I'm with you.
I sound like such a Scrooge!

metalkprettyoneday · 24/11/2017 03:59

Daughter loves Unicorns because of her favourite to show - Mia and me.
It has magic unicorns . I'm glad I can buy her a few tops.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/11/2017 04:36

I saw a Shetland pony sized Unicorn in Debenhams yesterday. It was stood on all 4 legs & was only £80!
DD sat on it & demanded a photo that she could send to her unicorn obsessed friend.

berliozwooler · 24/11/2017 04:39

I think Despicable Me started the unicorn thing.

CaptainWarbeck · 24/11/2017 05:32

Loving the wolefs

I imagine them as a kind of confused, dopey wolf.

Booie09 · 24/11/2017 07:51

It's not the designers who make everything trend its the school playground once one child has something every child wants it! Remember fidgit fucking spinners and loom bands! My daughter lives unicorns btw

zukiecat · 24/11/2017 10:29

Floella

I like Pusheen, she's sweet and cute

I do love anything to do with cats though

BoredOnMatLeave · 24/11/2017 10:41

Is it not the same as all the marble and rose gold shit out there at the moment?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/11/2017 11:05

Now concrete would be an interesting trend
Neo Brutalism anyone?

To wonder why everything has got unicorns all over it?
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/11/2017 11:06

I actually quite like those earrings.

Floellabumbags · 24/11/2017 11:49

I actually quite like those earrings

So do I

zukiecat "I'm just bitching because I bought one for DD for Christmas and it was so expensive. My kids are really into Japanese kitsch and retro gaming.

Thistledew · 24/11/2017 12:26

Completely a side comment, but it made me laugh:

Going through a book of nursery rhymes with 15 month old DS, we were looking at the pictures and I was asking him what all the animals say:

"DS, what does duck say?"
"Ack ack"
"What does cow say?"
"Moo"
"What does mouse say?"
"Eeek"
"What does doggie say?"
"Voof"
"What does lion say?"
"Raaah"
"What does unicorn say?" [meanie mummy, a trick question]
DS looks at the picture, looks at me, looks at the picture again, and with a tone of complete confidence: "Mooo"

So there you have it. Every time you see a unicorn now, just imagine it mooing like a cow! Grin

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 24/11/2017 12:42

Wolefs! 😀😀😀

AAROOOOOO

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/11/2017 13:42

Next time I see a Unicorn I'll say hi to it & see what it does Grin

Sheitgeist · 24/11/2017 14:18

I've seen a few narwhal things around and think they may be about to be a "thing".

Makes sense, because narwhals are sort of marine unicorns.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 24/11/2017 21:11

An ounce of narwhal skin contains the same amount of vitamin C as ounce of orange.

Floellabumbags · 24/11/2017 21:22

If it's all the same I'll have a jaffa.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/11/2017 21:22

Well you learn something new everyday!
I still think we should push for a concrete trend as Floella likes those earrings too!

Sheitgeist · 25/11/2017 10:09

I still think we should push for a concrete trend as Floella likes those earrings too!

Absolutely. then my 70's built fugly back patio with built in concrete slab barbecue area will be cool and I won't have to demolish it after all!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 25/11/2017 14:29

Sheitgeist 🤣🤣🤣

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 25/11/2017 21:35

I'm wondering why they don't sell narwhal skin in Sainsbury's.
