To ask for your stories of sleep deprivation

While I am feeding my 3 week old... yet again (and as I have done every hour pretty much on the hour since last night)
Funny stories about sleep deprivation or even survival tips welcome. Just to keep me awake and entertained while my lo feeds and ruins my nipples

I'm up with my 20 month old - 4th time tonight. She's a terrible sleeper and teething too. No funny stories but just some solidarity- it will get better at some point, it just might take longer than you think!

I have just got back from an A&E trip after a solid two weeks of teething related extra lack of sleep at the tail end of theee and a half years of never sleeping through the night. I no longer have a sense of humour.

@ethelfleda feel free to join the thread about feeding newborns, there’s a good few of us posting during the night as we feed and sleep deprivation is a common theme :)

Dunno what to tell you really. It's totally brutal.

Used to have days where I just automatically took paracetamol in the morning as I got so used to having a permanent headache. Survived on coffee and trying not too challenge myself mentally too much

Worst thing was that I reversed the car backwards out of the garage with the back door still open. Door was utterly fucked. Wouldn't close at all. Cost £3k to fix.

DD has been sleeping terribly the last month or two. Waking up every 1-2 hours for most of the night. I'm barely functioning. Now she's sleeping peacefully for once and I'm wide awake. My brain obviously hates me. Why, oh why.

I’m wide awake too. My 22 month old rolled over, called out for me and that’s my sleep ruined.

I’m going to be properly grumpy at work tomorrow!

Had a post it stuck to door reminding me to lock it on leaving house. Was so tired I forgot contents of post it by time I'd shut door so left house unlocked most days.

Also made many a tea only to realise there was no bag in the mug - only hot water!

My two year old woke me up at 2am to tell me her hair was sore.

She's still awake singing The Wheels on the Bus.

I'm pretty much over this being a parent nonsense now.

My two year old just woke up crying and asked for a cuddle and some milk. Was very cute because now it's a one off but I remember the 4 hour night feeds well and being woken every 20 minutes to be used as a dummy.

I used to do all sorts with the sleep deprivation - got DS out of the car once & into the pram and just walked away from the car leaving his door wide open to the world for two hours. Reversed into a skip too despite knowing fine well it was there and having rear sensors.

Solidarity salute! Have had two years of little sleep due to DD and now have 2 week DS to take me back to square 1. I just get super clumsy when I'm exhausted - my mobile phone has been out for repair three times! Latest one was in hospital with DS when I fumbled for it and it smashed onto the floor.

Back to surviving on coffee and sugar to get me through. Luckily DH still on paternity leave and DD in nursery, so I can rest in the day, but I'm aware this won't last forever....

My 6 month old DD thought it would be fun to lull me into a false send of security and start sleeping through at 3 months.
It lasted a week.
Currently up for third night feed and feeling very hard done by and cross with life and men with their worthless nipples.

My oldest finally started sleeping through a week before my second was born. My second didn't sleep through until she was 22 months.

After the first two or three weeks of solid eight-hour sleeps every night, I came to the stunning realisation that it wasn't parenthood that had turned me into an irritable, struggling-for-patience, constantly-muttering-FFS-under-my-breath bitch. It was just three and a half years of sleep deprivation. I was actually a nice, normal person when I wasn't being woken up every 1-3 hours all night long.

It gets better. Sometimes it takes fucking ages for it to get better, but I look back and now feel good about not sleep-training. I didn't take out the sleep deprivation on my kids, they learned to go to sleep comfortably, and I feel stoked every time I can kiss them on their foreheads, say goodnight, and walk out of the room for them to go to sleep happily by themselves.

Awake with my 20 week old who is very bunged up and will only sleep on me or my bed rather then the nice crib she has next to me

I'm so sleep deprived I know don't even seem to know how old she is!!

She is 10 weeks - not 20!!!

My boy has been asleep now for 2 hours
I am still wide awake, however. That is just cruel. It's like getting to sleep when he goes down is so important that it's too much pressure and I can't perform!
I used to be able to fall asleep on a washing line. I used to sleep just for fun or if I was just a bit bored. What happened to me?? I lost my one great talent in life!

My 7 month old has just projectile vomited all over himself, me and the bed. We are now camped on the sofa and I am desperately trying to get him back to sleep.

Oops. And firefighters use. Must have dropped my phone 50 times and it’s never broken. They cost a bit but well worth the money in comparison to cracking the screen 50+ times! Good luck!

My nearly 20 month old slept through a couple of times a fortnight ago. Which makes the return to the 3 hourly (at least) wake ups even worse. We also have a five year old who is rarely asleep past 6.15.

It sounds like my husband (very mild mannered and non confrontational) was ready to belt a friend who complained he was tired the other week - because he was having to leave early and get the train every day. D.H. was all ‘that’s two hours a day he can sleep on the train! After a whole nights skeep’

The baby actually isn't messing about too much tonight. I've got serious sinus pain and can't think straight.

He's almost one and not a good sleeper, likes the human contact but also likes sleep crawling and kicking me in the chops on his nocturnal wanders. I've pondered creating a giant cot for parents of cosleeping, sleep crawlers but I think it's probably quite a niche market. 😁

Get a six foot charger lead, they're so much easier. And if you don't need to get up in the morning, don't! Congratulations! 💐

I’ve just fed my 3 week old. Now I have to keep him upright for 30 mins before I can attempt to put him back in his crib. Im pretty sure he’s going to wake up & I’ll end up with him back on my chest.

Ah I remember those broken nights so well with my 3dcs. Youngest is now 18!....so I'm now kept awake waiting for them to come home after nights out!
However I do remember bf my first dd and looking at a box of breast pads , through gritted teeth, which exclaimed 'remember ,breastfeeding is best for babies!', when my nipples were being chewed off !
However, I'm now awake at stupid o'clock because I'm in high dose steroids for newly diagnosed vasculitis (an awful auto immune disease which is causing havoc with my blood vessels and causing a lot of pain)... I think I'd rather have a little baby to cuddle

Same here - it is the feed and then the winding and then the keeping them upright for ages after so it doesn't end up coming back up again. By the time this has all been done, they are hungry again!
