While I am feeding my 3 week old... yet again Grin (and as I have done every hour pretty much on the hour since last night)
Funny stories about sleep deprivation or even survival tips welcome. Just to keep me awake and entertained while my lo feeds and ruins my nipples

I'm awake with a 5 week old! He only wants to sleep on my chest most of the time during the day. Earlier he fell asleep and I was awake until 1.30! Why of why didn't I just go to sleep?!? He has woken up now at 3.45 - had a feed, done a massive poo and then brought back most of the milk all over himself and my bedsheets! He is therefore now playing and is hungry again! I am currently changing him, will feed and pray he falls asleep on the boob! I miss the days of a full nights sleep - and this is hard work and a shock to my system as his older brother is 5!

Dc 1 used to keep me awake. I got to know the night time radio 2 djs very well. Ironically, now he’s a six foot seventeen year old, who sleeps in at the weekend, and will take himself off to bed early if tired.

Ooh my sympathies grapes I had carpal tunnel in pregnancy and it was SO frustrating. I recommend getting a couple of baby bundlers from M&S, they're so much easier to use when you can feel your fingers. They were my saving grace the first night in hospital.

Ds8 is severely disabled and despite 2 sleep meds, usually wakes before 1am. This is his morning! It has been like this for 8 years! After 8 years I'm now finally waiting for a hospice to accept him so my DH and I can get a full nights sleep!
Over the years I have done lots of terrible things due to sleep deprivation.
Once me DS a bottle of coffee and me a cup of formula... That didn't go firm well for either of us.
If we can't find the phone DH usually looks in the fridge or my handbag.
I've taken DS10 to at least 2 birthday parties a day early.
I've turned up at loads of hospital appointment late or early. I use a Calender on my phone and the wall and I still can't read them.
I've stood and tried to squeeze DD hat on DS head ... There are 4 years between them... It was never going to fit she was 1 and he was 5!
I have millions of stories ... 8 years of sleep deprivation... I'm sure it should amour to torture. With no end point in sight.... I'll just sob into my coffee.... Shit its tea!!! Oh well!

@icebear Flowers I was going to have a moan but I don’t think I’ll complain after reading your post.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 22/11/2017 05:46

I have not slept more than 2 hours in one hit for 25 years.

It’s shit

NeedsAsockamnesty · 22/11/2017 05:48

For much the same reason as ice,

AtlanticWaves · 22/11/2017 05:59

Mine are 3 and 6 years old. I have not had a single night of not being woken up since I was pregnant with DS1.

DS1 had severe reflux until he was 5 years old so woke up to 8 times a night.

DS2 was often woken by him and woke himself. They both now have nightly nightmares.

I am beyond exhausted.

I've left our front door wide open when going out. I've put things back in the wrong place (rice packet in the fridge, milk in the cupboard).

If you advance search sleep deprivation there are some very funny threads. I'm too tired to be funny Smile

Lovestonap · 22/11/2017 06:12

Yeah I had poor sleepers, 7 years of broken nights.

People sometimes ask me if I'm having a a third - I'm like 'what the actual fuck?'

AtlanticWaves · 22/11/2017 06:39

Yes DH wants a 3rd. No way

OldGuard · 22/11/2017 06:50

Ok so firstly ... this passes ... honestly it does ... eventually they leave home

You asked for stories of survival so I thought I’d take you literally

My military training required you to pass survival training - so there is me, the only woman with 6 men in the middle of the desert - all we had was what we were thrown out the back of the plane with ...... it was a long three weeks worthy of a few bottles of wine to give the story justice ... however the part i most remember is we managed to run down two wild goats ... actually perhaps this isn’t a good story ... ok skip that .... I dreamt about malt milkshakes for three weeks but the smell of them now makes me feel sick .... however I do know how to kill and skin a goatbwhich quite frankly is a skill a vegan doesn’t normally need in everyday life

OldGuard · 22/11/2017 06:51

But if the zombies come ... I’m your woman

Tobebythesea · 22/11/2017 06:52

I was once so sleep deprived I forgot to put a nappy on my baby. Didn’t do that again!

Tobebythesea · 22/11/2017 06:54

Oh, and left the car unlocked on multiple occasions and left the keys in my front door several times.

Notlostjustexploring · 22/11/2017 07:14

My little boy had an awful bout of teething the second week I was back at work and I had a rotten cold, and at the time he wouldn't really settle for my husband.

I was going in to work each day on a broken 3 hours. This was a theme for a while.

I was trying to have a technical conversation with someone at work and I genuinely couldn't both stand up and have any form of complex discussion. My brain just couldn't cope. My colleague just kind of looked at me like this.Hmm

It does get better, and that first night when you get a straight 4 hours. Oh, boy, that is a thing of beauty. I remember my brain feeling clean. And everything was in HD!

Minxmumma · 22/11/2017 07:18

Well the birthday girl was up what seemed like every 5 bloody minutes last night until I caved and let her cosleep. 1 today and feisty!
On the up side her siblings are 15 and 20 and are a fright to get out of bed - so it doesn't last..... just 13years or so Grin

Feeling your pain, those first few weeks were a new type of hell!
