My birthday is on the 22nd of December. This year I will have suffered 31 of the blasted seasonal things.

Its rubbish because:

This year it's on a Friday. People will, as they usually are, be finishing ogg their last minute Christmas bits/going on Christmas do's etc and so won't be available for a get together.

Even if they were, the places will be packed as it will be "Mad Friday"

Because I want to buy all sorts of stuff, as I do every year, but can't incase they get bought for me for Christmas/Birthday. This time of year I usually end up wanting to buy duvet sets. pjs etc for myself but have to hold off til after Christmas to get hem incase someone has got me some for Christmas.

As they're so close together, I never know what to say when people ask for gift ideas.

....Add in your suggestions to counter to above, or reasons why your December birthday is rubbish.

pugwalls DS was born on Boxing Day 2015 (he was due 2nd January 2016). I hope you had a better Christmas Day last year than I did in 2015 (48 hour back to back labour!)?!

I feel sad for him that he’ll have such a shit birthday. On the plus side it’ll always be bank holiday. I read upthread about buying their Christmas birthday children outdoor presents in the summer, I think this is what I’ll do in future!

LizzieSiddal · 20/11/2017 13:59

My DD2, mum, and sister all have December birthdays. Mine and Dd1 are the end of Nov. What funHmm Hmm

Actually I don’t mind it, we always make a massive fuss of each other and I always told Dd2 when she was little, that all the decorations and lights were up because it was her birthday. Grin.

The only issue has been trying to get anywhere on Dec 23rd when it’s dd2 birthday. It’s such a pain!

FairfaxAikman · 20/11/2017 14:03

Mine is early December but it’s a nightmare to book a table out anywhere.
If we do get somewhere then we are shoved in the corner next to the loos.

CurbsideProphet · 20/11/2017 14:07

Hello fellow December Birthday Folk Smile

DP and I both have December birthdays, so at least we both know how important it is to get proper birthday cards and wrapping paper!

I often get presents wrapped in Christmas paper. I know it sounds really ungrateful, but I wish people would just buy some birthday paper / bags in advance.

On the plus side a December birthday is all I'm used to. When I was a child I would get little presents for Easter instead of eggs, so I didn't just get to open presents in December!

ALemonyPea · 20/11/2017 14:11

Mine and DS3 have birthdays in November, and that’s bad enough. Can quite imagine December birthdays are tough.

DS2 is August, and we had to move his birthday parties to mid July as everyone either forgot or were on holiday when we tried to have a party.

blackteasplease · 20/11/2017 14:14

My brother is the 2nd Jan. That is the absolute worst day in the year for a birthday (gavel). No one wants to celebrate anything that day and he struggles to get even a cinema trip planned - he is a nice person with family, friends, wife etc it's just the date!

At least if your birthday is over Xmas people are in the mood to celevrate.

dontcallmelen · 20/11/2017 14:20

@cjt110 my birthday is the same day as yours, Dh is the 29th dec totally agree is rubbish, no one cares,no one remembers, everywhere is heaving, restaurants all have stupid Christmas set meals, to go away is extortion 😥we have taken to being like the queen & have two birthdays have a party in the summer for our ‘half’ birthdays.

vixo · 20/11/2017 14:25

My youngest daughter's birthday is December 21st; she's going to be 5 this year. So far she's just really excited that her birthday is so close to Christmas but I don't suppose that will last!

She gets the same birthday breakfast that everyone in the family gets, and this year we'll celebrate on the Friday when school has finished and we're both off work so actually I think she'll have a pretty good day as it will be all of us there and all about her.

Christmas is going to be different anyway this year as I'm working Christmas Day and husband working Boxing Day...so that Friday/Saturday/Sunday will be our family time and we'll squeeze in presents some how on Christmas Day!

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 20/11/2017 14:30

One day this will be my kids complaining. One is 26th December the other is the first week of January.

I always keep the two things separate for them even though it means staying up long after they’re in bed on Christmas Day to Birthday up the house and decorate a cake. But every year they get stuff wrapped in Xmas paper. One year dd had her present split in half, a dress for Christmas and the cardigan that came with it for birthday. Same Christmas paper and both part of the same set. They’re not even that close in age so a joint summer party for them wouldn’t really work.

Sgtmajormummy · 20/11/2017 14:31

Mine's 29th November, so early enough to celebrate without interfering with Christmas.
But it meant I spent what little money I was given on Christmas presents for other people!
No financial benefit until Christmas.

I'm generally considered quite generous as an adult so a Winter birthday might have something to do with it.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 20/11/2017 14:32

It looks as though there are a lot of families with birthday clusters. We have certain months where it feels as though there's a birthday every other day! Not always easy to plan though - one of our Christmas birthdays was actually born eight weeks early!

Linnet · 20/11/2017 14:40

My birthday is in early January and it's rubbish. The weather is usually rubbish so nobody feels like going out, nobody has any money left and everyone is on a diet.

My dd's birthday is in August. When she was little I used to wait until school went back then had her party in September.

mummyhaschangedhername · 20/11/2017 14:46

I’m jan 5th, one of my kids is dec12th, it’s a bit pants. Fil is dec 24th my twins are at the weekend which is bad enough.

Coconutspongexo · 20/11/2017 14:51

My nephew birthdays are December 2nd and 12th
My Dads is December 15th
My eldest brothers is December 17th
And twin brothers are the 23rd.

December skirts me Grin

My exes birthday is Christmas Day but he’s a prick so deserves that

Mairyhinge · 20/11/2017 14:59

Mines New Year's Day, & its shit.
Everyone's skint, depressed and thinking of work next day.
Utter bobbins for a birthday!

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 14:59

I have a post Christmas birthday. Dh once suggested merging my Christmas and birthday presents. I told him no. With terse swearing.

ferrier · 20/11/2017 15:02

I have a December birthday. I love it. Everyone is festive, loads of parties, what's not to love?

horriblehistorieswench · 20/11/2017 15:22

I see your December birthday & raise you....a January birthday. Lots of re-gifting, or cheap sale tat that still has Christmas labels on. Everyone is too skint to go out to celebrate or are on post Christmas diets so even if they do come out it’s all courgetti & sparkly water. Or you’re snowed in- that was a memorable birthday, no electricity, no heating, no cake, no presents.

CamdenTownie · 20/11/2017 15:25

In this house Dh and I have December birthdays, our wedding anniversary is also in December and 3 out of our four children have January birthdays!

I don’t mind it, I love December, it’s so much fun 🤗

notfromstepford · 20/11/2017 15:42

Mine is NYE. Shit when I was young (so many joint birthday/christmas presents and parents always bought me stuff in the sales but I didn't get extra they just saved money) It was brilliant when I was a teen / early 20s - everyone was out.
Shit again now I'm older - the thought of going out on NYE sends me cold - it's too busy and there is no way I'm paying twice as much for dinner out, or having to pay to get in to my local!

madeyemoodysmum · 20/11/2017 15:51

My dd is 2nd Dec and that's as late as I'd like it tbh. If we hadn't conceived that date I'd have waited for a Feb baby.
Jans worse as everyone is skint.

BellyDancer124 · 20/11/2017 15:52

My birthday is 22nd Dec too, I'm with you OP... yanbu!!

SleepingStandingUp · 20/11/2017 15:56

My birthday is 31st Decembe which meant growing up friends were always doing family things, now as an adult with kids its all about family stuff etc.

Plus EVERYONE CELEBRATES THE END OF BIRTHDAY AT MIDNIGHT!!!!

Occasional attempt at doubling up presents - is NOT tolerated

Once got a Christmas card saying happy birthday. I was 10, now 35 and still not over it

I turned 18 in 1999. Yep, my 18th was OVER SHADOWED by the ducking MILLENIUM!!!!!!!

Grrrrr

upsidedownfrown · 20/11/2017 16:25

My birthday is 2th dec. Last year on the phone to wish my mum merry Christmas (she lives other side of country) she forgot to wish me happy birthday. We spoke for about 20mins! Then spoke to stepdad, he forgot, sister, she forgot, brother...he remembered at least!

DaisyDando · 20/11/2017 16:27

Mine is often on or near “works Christmas do” night which can be good and bad. But mostly bad.
