To think getting quite drunk with a baby is odd??

NC as could be outing.

So we are suppose to be visiting friends this weekend. They have a 6 month old we have a toddler. They want to go out for dinner and drink then go back to theirs and pop open the champagne. Apparently they have quite a few bottles. My DP friend then said he's going to guzzle the wine and his wife will be drinking too.

Obviously most of the drinking will be when the kids are in bed but AIBU to think you wouldn't do this?? What if something happened like an emergency and you needed to go out or the baby needed something. I wouldn't want to get really drunk while caring for my D'S.

I'm all for having fun and a laugh but a glass or 2 not 3 bottles of champagne and guzzling wine!

AIBU or would other people do this?

Process cat also thinks people who wear football tops are "vile" so tbh I'm not really arsed about the views of such a judgy snob

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/11/2017 15:56

Karma - extremely frightened, hungry, thirsty children cuddled up on beds - I feel very sorry for them, but Jesus, the OP is talking about one evening, when a 6 month old is in bed! Talking about making a drama out of a crisis.

Fair enough if you want a glass or two but getting trollied

There is a huge gap in between a glass of wine and gettting trollied you know.

Olivetappas · 16/11/2017 15:58

My friend often suggests this not realising her dd is in the comfort of her own home in her own bed and is less likely to wake up. My ds will wake up isn't in his own home comfort ya he wouldn't settle and I'd have to take him home late possible tipsy.. No thankyou I'll pass

Standandwait · 16/11/2017 15:59

Also, sorry, but 3 bottles of wine between 4 people, if evenly split = they are definitely drunk. Not even counting the wine while out at dinner and whatever spliffs they're handing around.
Sheesh, you Brits don't seem to realise just how much more you do drink than people in other countries.

Notreallyarsed · 16/11/2017 16:00

Ok, if you’re not fit to get behind the wheel of a car you’re not fit to care for a child. That any better?

brasty · 16/11/2017 16:02

Wow. I have not been safe to drive a car because of sleep deprivation. What should I do then?

Olivetappas · 16/11/2017 16:02

I'd jst go for dinner have a glass or 2 and part ways at the end.

kaytee87 · 16/11/2017 16:02

Nothing wrong with this as the baby is safe. I sometimes have a smoke/spliff when DD is in bed. Only on weekends though.

Parent of the year award goes to you Hmm

Capricorn76 · 16/11/2017 16:03

And which country do you live in Standandwait?

LineysRum · 16/11/2017 16:03

I think that the drunk, loud, lairy, weed-smoking bloke sounds incredibly boring so I wouldn't go. Especially if he thinks a woman - either wife or friend - can attend to his baby as needed. Tedious as fuck.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/11/2017 16:05

I wouldn't get drunk with a baby, they make really boring drinking buddies.

ChocoLeibnizAddict · 16/11/2017 16:06

F off, I'm not part of your culture

Utter hypocrisy, it’s no different to drinking in terms of what you can and cannot do. So if being stoned in charge of a baby isn’t ok, neither is drinking!

PurpleDaisies · 16/11/2017 16:08

It’s totally different. Drinking alcohol is legal.

MiniMum97 · 16/11/2017 16:08

I don’t think people have to give up having a life just because they have children. It’s fine. Chill out Nothjng with happen and if it does there are taxis. My son has always said he prefers me after a few glasses or wine! Much more fun apparently. 😳

Notreallyarsed · 16/11/2017 16:09

Alcohol is legal

Being drunk in charge of a child is not.

Depends where the poster is from really doesn’t it. Not illegal everywhere

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/11/2017 16:12

Standandwait no the Brits don't drink more than in other countries.

The list I found says the UK is 25th on the list of alcohol drunk per person. That's 24 countries drinking more per head than we do.

Where are you from incidentally?

Standandwait · 16/11/2017 16:12

I live in Britain, Capricorn. But not from here originally, and have lived for periods of at least 2 years, as an adult, pouring wine at dinner parties, in ... let me see, four Asian countries, four European mainland, both US and Canada, and Argentina. In none of those countries did people drink like here! I drink just plenty myself, but it is hilarious to go into a pub and have the staff say a bottle of wine is 3 glasses.

kali110 · 16/11/2017 16:13

Also, sorry, but 3 bottles of wine between 4 people, if evenly split = they are definitely drunk.
Really? So that's the same for every single person then?

Standandwait · 16/11/2017 16:13

24 countries ahead of us, hmm? Out of 200 countries total? You're right, my claim was anecdotal, but I think your statistic backs me up!

(For interest, which countries drink more? Maybe I should visit...Grin)

PurpleDaisies · 16/11/2017 16:13

Being drunk in charge of a child is not.

Drinking doesn’t have to make you drunk.
