Paddington and ebay

Feeling fed up of people's greed.
Just tried to unsuccessfully buy a Paddington bear in M&S. Sold out.
Looked on ebay for other Paddingtons and discovered a hefty price war bidding for the same bear!
Why are people so greedy! They have obviously not bought the bear as a present and are using it to generate money.
I know this often happens at Christmas but it seriously pisses me off!

I don't see it as greed it's just seizing an opportunity. They paid for it and if people are willing to buy it at an inflated price then all they are doing is supplying the product, no different from a store doing the same thing. At the end of the day if no one brought it then they still have the item, honestly I don't understand why people get cross about it.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 16/11/2017 11:29

How much do you want to pay? Have you looked at online bear shops?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 16/11/2017 11:31

John Lewis have them...

SloeSloeQuickQuickGin · 16/11/2017 12:00

Things are only worth what people pay for them. People arent "greedy" they cant dictate the final price. You were obviously looking in the hoped you could get one on the cheap.

Hillarious · 16/11/2017 12:03

They're not "greedy" in the same way that ticket touts are not "greedy". A colleague who's partner was a tout justified it by saying he was putting in the effort to buy the tickets in the first place and the people buying from him didn't have to sit on their phone or PC to get hold of their tickets.

The eBayer has taken the trouble to go to M&S so you don't have to!

MissionItsPossible · 16/11/2017 12:07

They could have had it bought for them but they don't like Paddington so you can't say this was done cynically.

worlybear · 16/11/2017 12:08

I wasn't hoping to get the bear on the cheap- I was prepared to pay the shop price- and the argument that an ebayer has saved me from the trouble of shopping at M&S has left me speechless!
No justification for such blatant greed!

i agree with OP - it isn't normal supply and demand, it's profiteering.

Deliberately buying things up to profit when you know they will sell out and people will be desperate is a shitty thing to do.

Hillarious · 16/11/2017 12:11

Worlybear - have you never encountered sarcasm?

worlybear · 16/11/2017 12:12

...also there are a number of M&S Paddingtons on ebay....surely they're not all unwanted gifts!

OP posts:
ChickenlessHead · 16/11/2017 12:13

It happens every year though. You just to get in there earlier.

worlybear · 16/11/2017 12:14

Hillarious- yes. It's the lowest form of wit.

Worly and perhaps a little too subtle for you.

ByThePowerOfRa · 16/11/2017 12:18

This usually comes across as rude, (which honestly isn’t my intention), and falls on deaf ears, so I’m wary about saying it... but, I think you need to calm down a bit. It’s just a bear. Does it really matter? I’ve seen some in tescos for £5. If people want to get into a bidding frenzy then I’d leave them to it.

liquidrevolution · 16/11/2017 12:24

Same as the sainsburys Mog in 2015. They still sell for megabucks on ebay Sad DDs is not allowed out of the house in case she loses it Hmm. Its a shame as the sales from this are probably for charity as well as the Mogs and if there had been more made then more would go to the charity. But shops do this on purpose to create a hype.

However the Sainsburys Mog does not have a doppleganger. The M&S paddington does. As far as I can see apart from the M&S logo and a slightly smaller size its the same as the one my DD got in 2014. My Mum got it from JoJo Maman Bebe as a joke as I had a paddington when I was younger.

JoJo paddington

Don't forget mumsnetters get 10% off Wink Ithink?

Incidentally DDs Mog was tracked down by an online gaming friend of my teen brother who sent it to my brother and charged him cost price. Nice lad I thought Smile.

Sorry can't take seriously someone who spells their user name incorrectly.(Hilarious?)
ByThePowerofRa- it's not just the bear - I've seen this happen with Christmas toys before and it lacks integrity.
I'm just sad that people are so selfish.
Yes there are other gifts/bears I could purchase but I just have an image of desperate parents being ripped off to get their children's presents.First World problem I know!

But (pretty much) everyone wants to earn more money. If people are daft enough to fall for the hype of a toy then people are going to take advantage of it to earn themselves a few quid.

Are you one of the people that was campaigning for tour operators to offer cheaper holidays during school breaks? I consider that the same kind of ‘it’s not fair!’ attitude.

It is surely the very essence of capitalism.

ByThePowerofRa

Do you mean me? It’s a line from a drum and bass track by Ebony Dubsters called ‘Ra’. I don’t see where the ‘hilarious’ spelling mistake is, sorry. But anyway, I’m pleased to have given me a chuckle! You sound like you could use it Smile!

RebeccaCloud9 · 16/11/2017 13:12

No, OP is referring to Hillarious but im guessing it's actually a play on words re Clinton?

Haudyerwheesht · 16/11/2017 13:13

OP I was with you on your original point but you've come across as pretty sanctimonious and rude now tbh.

Maybe @Hillarious wanted to have the username spelt correctly but it was already taken, maybe it means something or maybe, just maybe they realise it's a username on an Internet forum not a thesis or a job application and therefore it doesn't matter.

Forget the bear - go and spend the money on some gin camomile tea and a meditation app and chill the hell out.

Hillarious · 16/11/2017 13:17

RebeccaCloud9 - got it in one.
