Paddington and ebay

Feeling fed up of people's greed.
Just tried to unsuccessfully buy a Paddington bear in M&S. Sold out.
Looked on ebay for other Paddingtons and discovered a hefty price war bidding for the same bear!
Why are people so greedy! They have obviously not bought the bear as a present and are using it to generate money.
I know this often happens at Christmas but it seriously pisses me off!

Some of the M&S shops have them in stock. Just not online. MIL found some in store today at an out-of-the way M&S and grabbed a couple for DD2 and DS. She also found Kevin the carrots at the Aldi across the car park. Not going to sell them, obviously, but might be worth looking in store.

StripySocksAndDocs · 17/11/2017 00:02

I think Paddington makes his own marmalade. He's quite a sensible bear, or is that Winnie?

kissmethere · 17/11/2017 07:54

They sell them in Paddington station if you can get there.

BewareOfTheToddler · 17/11/2017 07:58

They also sell Paddington at the London Transport Museum and I think they have an online shop.

Freezingwinter · 17/11/2017 08:01

Not sure if this helps but sainsburys have them for around £8 and they're very cute!

Nanasueathome · 17/11/2017 08:05

Coming back to the one who bought 200 Paddington decorations....
I was in M&S the other day waiting to collect from the customer service till and a woman was buying 20 of the 10p carrier bags with Paddington on

zigzagbetty · 17/11/2017 08:08

You snooze you loose 😀

zigzagbetty · 17/11/2017 08:09

*lose before i get jumped on haha!

myusernamewastaken · 17/11/2017 08:11

Im 43 and I really want a Paddington Bear....

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 17/11/2017 08:18

Whilst it is a bit shit it's capitalism.
And as someone upthread said... nobody NEEDS a Paddington bear or a must have toy.

You know what people do need???? Homes. I bet people bemoaning this eBay practice don't mind selling their house at an obscene profit.

MamaPhoneHome

glenthebattleostrich · 17/11/2017 08:27

There are shit loads of fake fingerlings around so you have to be very careful where you get them.

I know what you are saying OP, it does piss me off. I ended up with an extra Aldi wooden calendar (long story, falling out with family etc) and popped it on a selling page for the price I paid. Because I try not to be an arsehat! Still had one cheeky cow asking for it for £3 because it's empty ffs.

MyrandaRoyce · 17/11/2017 08:29

M&S twitter account says that Paddington will be back in stock on Tuesday. Happy shopping!

19lottie82 · 17/11/2017 08:32

revrichard of course it’s basic demand and supply! What else would it be?
And yes, it is also profiteering. Why wouldn’t it be? Funnily enough this is usually the case when people sell things Grin
Do you understand basic economics?

19lottie82 · 17/11/2017 08:33

Those fingerlings linked are fake.

Sophieelmer · 17/11/2017 08:42

Profiteering? it’s a non essential item ffs! I get so pissed off on threads like this. Nobody has a problem with M&S making a profit but a person that tries their luck is a money grabbing so and so. I really can’t see how you can hold these opinions about what is essentially the same thing.
I don’t buy to sell but am happy for other people to, what I do care about is the completely insincere attitude or opinion spouted about greed. But only when it affects you and prices you out. The M&S price is still unaffordable for many families, but that’s ok because you can afford it. Except now you can’t so it’s a travesty and all about greed.

When our DC were young, the things that were all the rage at the time were Teletubbies, Furbies, Ninja Mutant Turtles, Transformers. I NEVER queued for anything, nor paid over the odds. They would just get a note from Father Christmas in their stocking if it was something faddy they particularly wanted (which was actually a very rare occurrence, tbf) promising the gift later in the year, as the elves had been so busy, they were too exhausted at the moment to make any more. They were always very happy with that - a personal note from FC! (And the Tooth Fairy too, if I'd had a one glass of wine too many at bedtime and forgot to put the 50p under the pillow). DS is now 22 and 6ft tall, and he has still kept those little notes Xmas Grin

If people are lucky enough to profit from this, then that is the new purchaser's hard luck. As someone else said further back, You Snooze, you lose.

MamaPhoneHome · 17/11/2017 11:59

seventynine those are fake. You can only get them from smiths and toys r us. They are exclusives.

There are some real ones on eBay but ££££

Dreams16 · 17/11/2017 12:09

I agree with you people like that I find vile no good comes of greedy people in the end it will backfire when more paddingtons are released for sale in shops because then they won’t be able to sell them on eBay for the inflated prices and end up selling them same cost as shops and have the hassle of having to post them etc

Frege · 17/11/2017 12:21

I don't really understand people saying, "that's capitalism". Businesses succeed by providing something people want- by offering a product or a service, so that both parties benefit from the transaction. Even shops which just sell on things bought wholesale are providing a service, as we wouldn't otherwise have easy access to those products. The economic benefit is shared between the business and the consumer.

Buying something retail simply to stick it on ebay and make a profit (and with the option of taking it back to the shop if noone bites) is profiteering- it adds no value but merely exploits demand, to the sole benefit of the seller. If that's all capitalism was it would never have caught on.

I agree that people don't have to buy. Doesn't make the behaviour of the sellers any less shitty.

PegLegAntoine · 17/11/2017 12:22

There are loads in John Lewis, you couldn’t move for them yesterday. What’s so special about the M&S ones? It is because of the advert. Happens every year with Christmas commercials, Mog, the John Lewis bear/rabbit etc. Just because they are featured on an advert they become the must have item

SilverDragonfly1 · 17/11/2017 12:25

YANBU.

We already live in a rotten world, why choose to make things just a little bit worse for everyone else?

Oh yes, selfishness and greed.

19lottie82 · 17/11/2017 12:44

silver because that’s how some people make a living? I’m an eBay business seller and if I have the opportunity to buy something I knew I could sell on for a profit then I do just that. It’s how I pay my bills and feed my kids (and pay my tax / pension).

gentlydoesit89 · 17/11/2017 12:53

I have a Paddington on eBay at the moment but because he isn’t M&S he’s been overshadowed. Brand new and not up for much and nobody wants him!
