Calling a single parent a single parent

Got into it with someone earlier after trying to give them a bit of advice, bearing in mind she asked for advice. I couldn’t help her with what she wanted but did mention other avenues where she may get the answer she’s looking for including a group for ‘the likes of single parents’, which she is. Queue a massive, in my opinion, overreaction. Ended up telling her that I wasn’t going to argue etc and that what I said was not in a malicious way what so ever. My mum and sisters are single parents and I know how hard they work at it and how tough it has been for them.

Has the world gone mad, can you no longer call a spade a spade?

I am a single mother by choice. A school mumrecently became a single mother not by choice and was very upset about what it would all mean. I said I sometimes went to single mum meet ups and she would be welcome and she was horrified because she didn’t want her kids to come along because of the stigma! Whenever I hear someone make derogatory comments about single mums I call them out on it and the say , I don’t mean like you as if there are is a large underclass or one type of single mums and a smaller subset of naice middle class ones

Let's try this: My local supermarket is shut and I need bread and milk for the morning, you deliver to the supermarkets do you know which ones are open?
Op: you should actually try the food bank , some groups for the likes of single parents should know more.
Other person : oh fuck off
Op: I don't get why you're offended and I only help my family anyway as my family come first.
Have I got that right? You were very rude in several ways op! Poor woman is struggling, not your job to decide she doesn't have the money for what she asked you about so you won't answer.
