Hypothetically speaking - if you liked them of course. Why not?

I dated my brother's best friend when we were in our early 20s. My brother was fine about it. I had fancied him for years!

I had a fwb thing with my good mates brother.. he moved country's for work so that's why it ended. I still go to loads of family events and everything's always been good between us.
My friend and his family don't know though. Grin

Racmactac · 15/11/2017 21:55

I had sex with my best mates brother. She went ballistic and stopped talking to both of us.
We were both single and I never understood it. Was never bothered about him but heart broken about her

pictish · 15/11/2017 21:58

I probably would...but not without thinking about the possible negative implications...simply because I am that sort of realist. I'm still a very optimistic person though...I just try to go into things with my eyes open.

Bottom line - If the relationship should flounder and split there is potentially the loss of a close friend to consider.

I have never slept with or dated any of my friends' brothers but a handful of my friends got involved with mine. He treated them like shit because he's not a nice person to have a romantic relationship with. They told me how horrible he was. I believed them and sympathised but my relationship with him didn't change...I know he's a cunt but he's a familiar cunt and I still enjoy his company as we have our own dynamic. True to say I wouldn't wish him on any woman though.

Nope

ItsReallyColdTonight · 15/11/2017 22:05

Possibly not! But I did go out with my brother's friend! And he's now my husband and father to my 2 DCs!

Are you my long lost sister? My brother sounds similar to yours.

ILikeThatSong123 · 15/11/2017 22:09

I too introduced my best friend and my older brother decades ago, when we were all in our twenties. They went out for few months and didn't get on. They were both needy in different ways and were looking for someone to fill the need but definitely incompatible with each other. I didn't think of it that at the time of course.
Anyway after their break up my friendship survived with my friend. My brother, told me that after introducing them to each other, I completely hold myself back from their relationship ie not asking how it was going etc and never offering any advice or guidance or clues etc and I left them to their own devices and that's why apparently it didn't last longer Confused It wasn't a massive criticism but nevertheless it was a criticism that made me feel bad for a while.
That's typical of my brother by the way. Nothing ever is his fault. It's always down to someone else.
Would i do it again? Maybe not.

NameChangedAndForgotOldName · 15/11/2017 22:09

I married him Grin

Floellabumbags · 15/11/2017 22:16

I quite fancied his brother as well - they were similar

That's just greedy.

FriendlyMartas · 16/11/2017 00:02

Was it not awkward?

TheBlueMeaniesAreComing · 16/11/2017 02:08

No. My best friends brother is like my little brother too. It would be weird. She views my brothers like brothers too. For us it would be horrible 🤣

SignoraStronza · 16/11/2017 02:18

Dh's sister is married to his good friend from school. I also know of two different cases where the woman is married to the brother of their brother's wife...which makes Christmas easy I suppose!Confused

SenecaFalls · 16/11/2017 02:36

DH's sister married his longtime best friend.

DeadDoorpost · 16/11/2017 02:45

I had a huge huge crush on my best friends brother for 5 years. My friend had no idea until I admitted it to her after it went. How she never found out I don't know but she was totally shocked.
He was 4 years older than us. I swear at one point he also liked me but I'll never know as I've not seen him for about 7 years now and I'm happily married. I just remember him acting odd occasionally around me.

Dontwaketheneighbours · 16/11/2017 03:21

I'm married to my brothers best friend - does that count? Been together 19 years. Never been awkward and we're all get on great, my DB is godfather to our DCs.

SashaFiercesMum · 16/11/2017 04:09

I did for just under 2 years. It was cool. When it did end there was no awkwardness and everyone still remained friends. Still see him socially to this day...

ImogenTubbs · 16/11/2017 04:31

A good friend's brother fancied me a long time ago, but she's pretty controlling and told him he wasn't allowed to date me! Shame as he was gorgeous but I don't think it was love so probably for the best!

BulletFox · 16/11/2017 04:56

My best friend doesn't have a brother Grin

He has a sister, but we would both be quite startled at the idea of dating, as both of us are straight. That'd give him a shock.
