Would you go out with your best friend’s brother?

Hypothetically speaking - if you liked them of course. Why not?

Yes.

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 15/11/2017 21:27

Yes of course, why not?

ByThePowerOfRa · 15/11/2017 21:27

My best friend’s brother is gay, so I can’t imagine this...

But hypothetically speaking, I guess I might.

One of my really good friends briefly had a bit of a fling with my brother. It didn’t bother me especially. I’m still good friends with the girl, but she doesn’t speak to my brother anymore. That was awkward for a bit tbh.

FatBottomedGal · 15/11/2017 21:30

I absolutely wouldn’t but it depends on the relationship you have with your friend!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 15/11/2017 21:30

Ex colleague goes out with her best mates bro, 7 years in and they're buying a house! DPs friend dated her best friends bro. Didn't work out but the friendship group has been fine about it. Unless there are deeper issues you're not telling us about, go for it :)

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 15/11/2017 21:31

I married my bf db!!
Divorced now.

ButchyRestingFace · 15/11/2017 21:32

It depends.

Is he fit?

smurfit · 15/11/2017 21:32

I shagged my good friend brother for a while. She didn't care, just reminded me that she was around first Grin

It all ended awkwardly and amicably. So in my case it wasn't a big deal. If it had gone well, it still wouldn't have been a big deal I don't think.

redexpat · 15/11/2017 21:33

I wouldnt casually date him, but if it was one of those slow burn know each other for ages turns to love things then yes.

PantPlot · 15/11/2017 21:33

No he's a right knob. Plus I'm married.

But yeah, if he wasn't a knob and I wasn't married, why not?

stocksund13 · 15/11/2017 21:35

One of my friends married her best friend's brother. She said everyone found it a bit awkward at first - friends since childhood - but it was great years down the line.

BikeRunSki · 15/11/2017 21:35

My best friend went out with my brother for about 18 months. I set them up, I was fed up of them each individually mooning after each to me!!! They were like 30-something teenagers!

It was a bit weird when they spilt up. I had to do the traditional “yes, total bastard, you’re better off without him” stuff with her. As DH said - dB would always be my dB, but she might not always be my friend.

This was about 15 years ago - she’s still my friend, DB is also still my friend Smile

Pollaidh · 15/11/2017 21:36

Yeah I would have. My best friend's a guy and I went out with him too. Grin I quite fancied his brother as well - they were similar but intriguingly different.

Redisthemagicolour · 15/11/2017 21:36

My mum married her brothers best friend.

Redisthemagicolour · 15/11/2017 21:37

And my sister is married to a friend of hers brother.

DJBaggySmalls · 15/11/2017 21:39

Idk, that could be really good or end really badly.

thelastredwinegum · 15/11/2017 21:40

No but I think of him as a brother as I've grown up with him.

Jamiek80 · 15/11/2017 21:40

Never say never but I'd be wary of dating my best mates sister without asking him nicely first.

cuirderussie · 15/11/2017 21:41

My brother married a friend of mine, I introduced them! She wasn't a close friend then but I've become really fond of her now she's faaaaamily, innit channels Peggy Mitchell. I remember a slight weirdness at first but it passed quickly.

confusedlittleone · 15/11/2017 21:42

I've done it, it ended badly and then I lost my best friend over it so never again!

ajandjjmum · 15/11/2017 21:43

DH was my DB's friend.

speakout · 15/11/2017 21:43

Yes, I did, and we are still together 20 years later.

My friend thinks it's lovely to have her niece and nephew . ( We are still good friends)

WhatwouldAryado · 15/11/2017 21:44

Well a good few close friends did this. Then blamed me when he acted the way he acts in relationships. It's certainly made me put distance between myself and friends in the past.

Glumglowworm · 15/11/2017 21:45

My best friends brother is a vile human being and I'm gay so no I wouldn't

Even if my best friend had a lovely lesbian sister I don't think I'd go out with her. I like my best friend and her family, I wouldn't want to make things awkward either because I was dating her sister or because we'd broken up.

ByThePowerOfRa · 15/11/2017 21:47

I should say that my friend having the fling with my brother wasn’t at all awkward. It was when they fell out and my friend stopped talking to him that it got awkward. We’d all been friends till then. It’s fine now though. She’s happily married to someone else with two dcs. DB is unhappily divorcing his wife (who came along shortly after friend-fling) and he also has two dcs!
