August baby at a disadvantage to Sept baby?

AIBU to think that having a birthday in spring/summer won’t massively affect how successful your child is in school long term?

I completely understand in the first few years at school the difference is significant, as a year is such a large jump, but surely as they grow older it evens out?
I’m ttc no 2 and was speaking to my close friend about it today who told me its mean to ttc this month in case I end up with an August baby Confused
She’s naturally very blunt and doesn’t mean anything nasty by it but she strongly feels that a baby born in August is at a massive disadvantage throughout. I know it’s highly unlikely to happen anyway but it’s made me think.

Thoughts/opinions please!

Actually I do remember November born DD being frustrated after she turned 18 that some of her friends couldn't come to pubs or clubs with her. She couldn't have her 18th at a club for that reason (they all need ID now unlike in my day).

Just thought about poor end of July born DS languishing at home for months after his mates will be able to go out on the razzle Sad. He's only 7 though so plenty of time to prepare him Grin.

But then major I guess it's annoying either way. Early in the year you can't go out at 18 because there is no one to go with, later in the year you have to wait till you are 18.

Peachy your DH sounds sensible to me, get on with it :)

Dd2 is an End of August baby. If she was 1 week younger she would have been in the year below. I homeschooled her for the first couple of years of school and when she did go she found it tricky to begin with. it really wasn't until year 5/6 that she caught up with her peers. She left primary as one of the top achieving pupils in her year. She is now in year 10 and is smart, confident and mature. She may have had to work harder to begin with but she is thriving.

Hi there, I’m finding it hard to understand when I should try for a baby if I wish for a September child. I fall very quickly (I’m very lucky) and the last two times we fell the first month of trying. I know this may not happen this time but I would like to try for a September baby. I have an avage 30 day cycle and seem to start my period around the 25-27th of each month. Do doctors date your pregnancy from your last period? With my other two I came off contraption and fell before having a period. But this time I’ve been contraption free for the last 5 months. I needed a dating scan the last times as I never knew when I got pregnant. I don’t want a August baby (if this can be helped). Any help would be wonderful smile xxx

I'd try for a November baby to be honest - from late January onwards. Aiming for a September baby, if you are actually worried about it, is too risky - all it takes is a 37 or 38 weeker and you've got an August baby.

Move to Queensland. An August child will be one of the oldest. Simple.

An Australian study this year showed the probability of a child receiving treatment for ADHD increased with birth month towards the youngest (June in this case).

I have a July boy who never struggled academically, in fact he excelled and is now studying at a top university. However he was always tiny compared to his classmates and definitely struggled a bit at sport until he caught up in his teens, no big deal though.
Anyway, how can you control for these things? Do some people just stop ttc between September and December? It wouldn't have occurred to me to care too much, I just wanted a healthy baby.

You can't guarantee a due date, I just find the whole trying for a date thing pointless Hmm

Faithless · 20/11/2017 13:16

And do people actually try for children with the sole aim of having the child on the top reading book or captain of the football team at primary school? Confused Weird, competitive primary school gates stuff isn't my world, thank God.

I'm august born and left school top of my year. Some September borns leave without a single GCSE. This is ridiculous. Just have a baby when it comes
