To think Demi Moore was wrong

To guess a 15 year old at the age of 19 because she was married, not because he was 15? I don’t understand the outrage. They were both teenagers and it was just a snog? Even if it was a 19 year old man kissing a 15 year old it’s not that bad? Obviously entirely different if there was any hint of coercion, but there doesn’t seem to be in the Demi Moore situation Confused

It is icky, but not passionate kisses.
She is drunk or high or both, and a teenager herself.
It's pretty gross, but calling it sexual harassment is pretty far fetched.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 14/11/2017 19:43

Yes, I'm sure a dorky looking 15 year old was forced into kissing a teenage Demi Moore

15 year old me wouldn't have scored that guy, never mind 19 year old me. I'd say he was delighted and trying to 'out' Demi as a paedophile for this is total madness

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 19:45

Kissing, as shown in this video, is clearly sexual. How could it be otherwise?

There is no specific definition of sexual activity - as far as I understand it the law is deliberately vague so as not to exclude anything that wasn't exactly specified. The question is whether kissing (as shown in this viedo) could be reasonably considered sexual, which I think it clearly is.

RozDeek · 14/11/2017 19:45

I think either gender would be a bit icky TBH. 4/5 years is not a big age difference when you are in your twenties, thirties or forties. IMO however there is a huge difference between a just turned 15 year old and a 19 year old.

ThisTimeItsTrue · 14/11/2017 19:45

I'm in my 50's and I would have found a 15/19 age gap creepy (male/female or female/male or same sex) when I was a teen.

It doesn't matter whether the younger person looks old or young - that's irrelevant. At 18 I dated a 24 year old and I'm still happily married to him 30 odd years later so I'm not opposed to age gaps if the younger partner is a little older.

I can't get too bothered about a kiss between a just 15 year old and a 19 year old but it's a bit cringey.

Would any of the posters be perfectly happy if their just 15 year old dated a 19 year old. I wouldn't 😕

*Yes, I'm sure a dorky looking 15 year old was forced into kissing a teenage Demi Moore

I don’t think it being forced or not is the issue. Plenty of children were/are in love with their adult abusers and would defend them to the hilt. The fact he was happy to be kissing her doesn’t mean it isn’t creepy.

prh47bridge · 14/11/2017 19:52

Applying the law in the UK now, it would be considered more serious than someone under 18 kissing a 15 year old

No it wouldn't. It is not an offence regardless of their ages. The relevant legislation is very clear as to what is classed as sexual activity. It does not include kissing.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 19:53

You're trying to be too black and white about it. The law is different if both parties are under 18, and different again if one is under 13. The law is different if the age gap is 2 years or less, and different again if one person is in a position of trust over the other.

In reality, sexual activity as just kissing with an age gap of 15 to 19 is unlikely to attract any kind of penalty, unless there is some kind of aggravating factor like grooming.

prh47bridge · 14/11/2017 19:55

I think it is a grey area precisely so they can let normal teenage activity be normal teenage activity

It is not a grey area. The section of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 that defines child sex offences is very clear as to what constitutes sexual activity. Kissing is classed as a not sexual activity.

MeganBacon · 14/11/2017 19:55

I would not be happy if my 15 ds dated a 19 year old. But I dated an 18 year old for over a year when I was 14/15 and no-one raised an eyebrow. Life was just very different in the 70's.

lljkk · 14/11/2017 19:58

The Reader. When the movie was big (late 1990s), nobody talked about the age gap.

prh47bridge · 14/11/2017 19:58

The law is different if both parties are under 18, and different again if one is under 13

If a child under 13 is involved it could, at a stretch, be regarded as sexual assault of a child under 13. However, provided both parties are over 13 a consensual kiss is not an offence.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 19:58

"The relevant legislation is very clear as to what is classed as sexual activity. It does not include kissing."

Is it? Could you clarify what you're referring to? What was Adam Johnson convicted of?

Walkingdead11 · 14/11/2017 20:02

Adam Johnson groomed his victim.

I saw the clip.
He looks around 12 (relevant in terms of ickiness)
She looms down over him and really snogs him, a number of times.
All the while she is doing a horrible 'look at me' grin to the room.
It is clearly an unequal 'exchange' and made my skin crawl.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 20:11

Adam Johnson also groomed the victim and was found guilty of that, but admitted to sexual activity with a child (kissing) when he was originally interviewed.

An excerpt from the remarks made by the judge in the case of his appeal:

"You kissed her, as you accept, with tongues. That is the first offence of Sexual Activity with a Child."
(www.judiciary.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/r-v-johnson-sentencing.pdf, page 4)

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 20:14

Sorry, not his appeal, the original sentencing.

lovemylover · 14/11/2017 20:16

Has the world gone mad, there is nothing sexual in that kiss,
The media seem obsessed with dragging everything they can out of the woodwork
To me that seems just a very affectionate kiss ,nothing sexual at all

TinselTwins · 14/11/2017 20:16

I thought it was okay when I was 15 and 19yr old boys kissed me....until I was 19 and looked at 15 year olds and realised how disgusting it is/was

BastardGoDarkly · 14/11/2017 20:19

Whittling you don't think people who are good looking are able to pressure less good looking people sexually? That's a very dangerous, flippant and dismissive remark.

BastardGoDarkly · 14/11/2017 20:21

The world hasn't gone mad no, watch it again, and wonder if you'd like an adult kissing your male/female just turned 15 year old like that

DiegoMadonna · 14/11/2017 20:26

Two of my best friends got with their bfs when they were 15 and 19. They're all now early/mid 30s and married with kids.
