To think Demi Moore was wrong

To guess a 15 year old at the age of 19 because she was married, not because he was 15? I don’t understand the outrage. They were both teenagers and it was just a snog? Even if it was a 19 year old man kissing a 15 year old it’s not that bad? Obviously entirely different if there was any hint of coercion, but there doesn’t seem to be in the Demi Moore situation Confused

It’s funny, my boyfriend when I was 16-19 was three and a half years older than me. We didn’t have sex until after my 18th birthday, but I never felt like I was groomed or anything. I mean he was 19 but it didn’t feel like it was ages older than 15.5 year old me. Except he could drive ans had more disposable income than I ever did. I didn’t drink until after I turned 18 either so that wasn’t the attraction. Makes me feel odd when they’re now cast as predators etc.

It was a different time. I think DM was by then pretty famous, she and her hangers on probably thought she was doing this kid a favour by snogging him.

This search for the guilty parties is getting a bit tedious.

EmilyChambers79 · 14/11/2017 19:15

My friend had a relationship with a 21 year old when she was 14. They were together for 4 years.

I always found that odd.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 19:15

Kissing like that would be considered sexual contact, and she was an adult, even if she was only 19. But again, that's looking at it now, in the UK in 2017. No idea what the relevant laws would have been wherever they were in the US in 1982.

It's not "hysterical" to discuss this, and have a different opinion to other people.

Oh come on, that looks gross! He's so child like, whereas she looks like a young woman. Its cringey.

Battleax · 14/11/2017 19:18

Ah. Now I've actually clicked the link. Confused It's not a great visual. But it was obviously a public incident.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/11/2017 19:20

Why does it being public change the situation?

neveradullmoment99 · 14/11/2017 19:21

She looks mature. He looks like a child. It isn't great.

Hulababy · 14/11/2017 19:21

The boy looks even younger than a just turned 15. So, he looks like a child, very much so. She looks way older, she is towering over him and is very much adult like, even more so when compared to the boy.

I really believe that if this was a very young looking just turned 15y girl and a much older looking 19y man then people would have a lot more concerns over it.

It looks awful, really quite uncomfortable watching.

I will be the first to admit I would never have dons that at that age (but then again I always liked older men Wink) but if they were both happy to do it I really don't see the problem. I was just a kiss. It's not like they were having sex. A fifteen year old is old enough to know whether they want to kiss someone or not.

MissionItsPossible · 14/11/2017 19:29

That clip has been around on YouTube for ages it's even been featured on those top 50 shocking celebrity moments shows on channel 5. It wasn't referred to as abuse. Was it? Is it?

BastardGoDarkly · 14/11/2017 19:29

Ttbb, I wouldn't bank on that, he may well have felt pressured in that situation, she was certainly taking the lead.

JemimaLovesHamble · 14/11/2017 19:32

A 19 year old man and a 15 year old girl would be seen as barely worthy of comment, just to do the old "if the genders were reversed" whinge Grin

The main thing I think is wrong is that she was married at 19!!

Carriecakes80 · 14/11/2017 19:33

I was 15 when my boyfriend was 19...was completely 100% consensual, I knew what I was doing, and given the fact that I could have married him a year later, I don't see the big deal except he was married, now that I do frown upon! lol

Doobigetta · 14/11/2017 19:33

It's a bit icky, but they also aren't what I'd describe as passionate kisses.

Sexual activity with a child is defined by the CPS here:

www.cps.gov.uk/legal/p_to_r/rape_and_sexual_offences/soa_2003_and_soa_1956/#a22

In reality, a case where a 19 year old had kissed a 15 year old, without coercion, I doubt that it would be something that would go to a trial. If a complaint was made to the police then a warning or a caution would seem a more likely response.
