The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

Don't think I have an ikea- free room in this house.

I was going to say the lounge, but that has ikea picture frames.

Didiplanthis · 14/11/2017 08:14

Me ! But I am probably 40 miles from Ikea and warehousey ASDAs and B and Q gives me panic attacks so I hate think what I would feel in IKEA !

Redhead17 · 14/11/2017 08:17

Literally everything Hmm

wonkylegs · 14/11/2017 08:17

My ILs house is ikea free as is GMILs flat
However my parents both embraced ikea when it first came to the uk so they have some older pieces in their respective houses.
At my dads house it's mixed with high end designer Italian furniture and honestly it looks good. If you pick ikea well it can last and isn't just cheap and cheerful.
We don't have so much furniture from them these days but my coffee is in an ikea mug & the kids pictures in front of me are in ikea frames

I've got a metal ikea bed frame which has lasted years, the rest of the stuff I bought has all fallen to bits over time and i've gradually replaced them with bits of antique and vintage pieces which might be a little more expensive but are lasting (and look much better).

I live 9 minute's drive from Ikea. I eat breakfast there most days. So while our furniture is pretty much Ikea-free the clearance dept. means that my textiles, kitchenware and lighting are very Ikea.

Ecureuil · 14/11/2017 08:30

I’ve got a kallax unit in the playroom but that’s it!

doodle01 · 14/11/2017 08:31

Cornflakes box only

SnackSnackEatAndCrave · 14/11/2017 08:32

Our house is half and half. DDs room, the study/laundry hiding room and the lounge are completely Ikea free... I'm looking round the lounge now actually a bit shocked by that fact!
But the spare room and bedroom are 100% Ikea, down to the picture frames and clothes hangers. And the kitchen is an Ikea masterpiece, we designed it with their online tool and built it with our bare hands!

disahsterdahling · 14/11/2017 08:33

I've not been to an IKEA for 20 years.

But I do still have a small table that I bought back then to furnish a small flat I'd just bought - it now lives in my dining room and the phone sits on it.

I went twice. The first time was on a weekday and it was great, I got loads of things to furnish my new flat, I'm not sure how we got it all in the car now! The second time was at a weekend - and well. I've never been back. There is one fairly local to me now. But I don't think I can be bothered when we have a good independent furniture shop near us. And they sell the furniture ready-made. And deliver it without charging extra.

MyUsernameIsOriginal · 14/11/2017 08:40

In our house if you can buy it in IKEA it probably came from there.

chanie44 · 14/11/2017 08:44

I have an IKEA a few miles away, so I pop in regularly for bits and pieces. DD used to call it the ice cream shop when she was younger as I’d always get her one - for 50p.

When OH and I first moved into our home, we didn’t have a lot of money to furnish our home, so we got lots from IKEA, although in saying that, we don’t have a lot of furniture, it’s mainly market hall accessories.

MaryShelley1818 · 14/11/2017 08:50

I think our only Ikea-free room is our bedroom! Everything else has something in...our first baby is due in 2wks and his entire nursery is Ikea!

loveliesbleeding1 · 14/11/2017 08:54

I don't have one single item from Ikea,I never have . I'm the antedote to my best friend who seems to live in there and always will!

BlueBerryBiscuit · 14/11/2017 08:54

Emily it's not really patronising to say Ikea or the like is cheap, disposable furniture. I get frustrated when people imply my dh is unreasonably expensive (which he really isn't!) but happily pay for furniture which actually is not even mdf and in my opinion is actually a rip off. There's a market for it though and it serves lots of needs people have but cheap, quick and disposable is the way of the world now and that's a little bit of a shame for many industries and crafts.

AnonEvent · 14/11/2017 08:56

We were IKEA Free until DD arrived, now we have a Kalax in most rooms. She has ruined my neo-gothic-chic vibe.

londonrach · 14/11/2017 08:57

Apart from the shoe horn which i gave my parents my parents house is. Theyve never been to ikea.

PoppyPopcorn · 14/11/2017 08:57

We have a couple of Ikea things - one of the day bed things and a shelving unit. I actively try NOT to shop there though as I don't want to live in a house which looks like everybody else's.

I'd much rather buy a second hand table or wardrobe and paint it than get something from Ikea. Much more eco too.

LAlady · 14/11/2017 08:59

Never been in an IKEA store and as a result have nothing in the house from Ikea.

HowDoYouWantToDoThis · 14/11/2017 08:59

I've only been to IKEA once, but I do have a few bits. Their simple highchair is by far the best I've found and the little kids table is great!

I probably have something from IKEA in every room but nothing I could name without having to really think about it.

Choccopop · 14/11/2017 09:05

Used to love going to ikea - but mainly for the cheap hotdogs & chips 😂 there’s nothing in my house that’s IKEA, it’s all wayfair, very & dunelm. Price wise pretty much the same imo.

palmfronds · 14/11/2017 09:05

I bloody love Ikea. Especially the food shop! Having said that, I don't have any of their furniture any more - just a few bits and pieces of kitchen stuff. I discovered the joys of buying stuff at auction before we moved to this house so no more white-coated MDF for me! Their bookshelves etc are great if you're on a budget though.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 14/11/2017 09:18

I've never been to an Ikea as there isn't one anywhere near so I don't have a single thing from there in my house.
I feel very left out!

deepestdarkestperu · 14/11/2017 09:29

I’ve never even been to IKEA let alone bought anything from there!
