Google Home just started singing at me out of the blue 😱

At the moment, I'm somewhere which has a Google Home set up, and I was just talking to a family member on the phone. Family member was talking about getting an Echo (think it's the Amazon version of Google Home but not sure?)

Anyway.. just as family member was telling me about the Echo, Google Home suddenly kicks in totally unprompted with a sunny little ukulele intro. She then starts singing - to the tune of Oh My Darline Clementine - something about having to find friends online Confused

Has this ever happened to anyone else?! And AIBU to think this is creepy as fuck?

Very creepy. And one of the reasons I won’t get that or Alexa shudders

Ontheboardwalk · 12/11/2017 22:32

I read something the other day where neighbours complained and police forced entry into someone's house when Alexa started having a full blast party at 4 am on its own with no one in the house.

My Alexa moaned at me whilst I was watching telly the other day saying ’that’s not nice’. When I checked the log the lying bitch claimed I called her an idiot.

I don't trust her at all.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 12/11/2017 22:32

Bloody Siri had a go at me in a hotel the other day. Phone was on the table not in use, DH and I were sitting on the bed at the other side of the room chatting.

Siri shouted “it’s all about you!”

I’ve never even used Siri. It is super-creepy.

ComingUpTrumps · 12/11/2017 23:01

Wow Sash Shock

Tonight Alexa started telling us about Chinese street food when we were having an unrelated conversation.
I checked the log and it thinks we said "Alexa open Chineasy".

MoonfaceAndSilky · 12/11/2017 23:09

When I checked the log the lying bitch claimed I called her an idiot.

BertieBotts · 12/11/2017 23:22

Grin These stories are so weird.

Not that creepy but DH was using google maps as a sat nav the other day and when we got home it said brightly "Welcome home!" Errrr thanks Google!

Gunpowder · 12/11/2017 23:22

Gaslighting so and so

Wolfiefan · 12/11/2017 23:24

Could've been worse. Could've sung the creepy song about watching every move you make.
I'd emigrate.

Ontheboardwalk · 12/11/2017 23:56

Paris she just shouted out 'that's not very nice' I didn't say anything to her.

If she starts singing tiptoe through the tulips I'm out of here

Ontheboardwalk · 12/11/2017 23:59

This is what she claimed I said

Google Home just started singing at me out of the blue 😱
Pariswhenitdrizzles · 13/11/2017 00:01

Ontheboard funny you should say it - she actually did!! I asked her to though Grin Grin I'm shit-scared now that it's stored on her memory though!! If she bursts into it in the middle of the night, I'm outta here!

LemonysSnicket · 13/11/2017 00:08

My alexa does it all the time - it heard the TV and goes of on one or misheard people's voices.

Freaked me out once when I wasn't answering my phone and DO sent a message through Alex's Grin her asking me to get some lactofree from the ship was an odd request

Ontheboardwalk · 13/11/2017 00:09

Paris you asked her??? Really?? That tune disturbed me before Insidious.

If you hear it in the middle of the night run, just run!! I'll come and collect you and yours

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 13/11/2017 00:14

Just thought I'd ask her to put it on as a (creepy af) joke when I was on the phone to the family member, because we both find the song fucking creepy. It's such a creepy song, isn't it? Shock

Very creepy. I will not have any alexa things in my home - scary!

GreyOwls · 13/11/2017 01:07

It’s very creepy.

Now, whenever I manually search for things on my iPhone, Siri ‘suggests’ things which have been mentioned in conversations with the people who come up in searches. I dont use Siri & never have done but it’s still clearly listening.

Once, When i walked into a colleague’s office and started talking, his Alexa said ‘Fart’ - ‘a loud expelling of intestinal gas from the anus.’ We nearly died laughing. Very creepy though.
