Google Home just started singing at me out of the blue 😱

At the moment, I'm somewhere which has a Google Home set up, and I was just talking to a family member on the phone. Family member was talking about getting an Echo (think it's the Amazon version of Google Home but not sure?)

Anyway.. just as family member was telling me about the Echo, Google Home suddenly kicks in totally unprompted with a sunny little ukulele intro. She then starts singing - to the tune of Oh My Darline Clementine - something about having to find friends online Confused

Has this ever happened to anyone else?! And AIBU to think this is creepy as fuck?

It's really not creepy. You're saying something that sounds like the trigger word (e.g. "Alexa", "OK Google", "Hey Siri" etc) so it starts listening, and then does its best to interpret what you've said. This can lead to very random things - but it's not doing it out of the blue, it's just misheard.

DH and I found we (or, more often, the telly!) were accidentally triggering Alexa all the time, so changed the trigger word to "Computer" which is more distinctive.

I just need to place a Shock here.

Our Alexa plays random music fairly often, twice today in fact. I blame next door but maybe it is the tv setting her off.

My sister has Alexa and we were talking about a very specific topic. Got home, turned my laptop on and the very first advert I'm met with was that very specific topic we were talking about. I don't even have Alexa! (She's probably in cahoots with Siri on my iphone however) Angry

You can see your voice search history to see what triggered the response (and play the recordings!) at myactivity.google.com/myactivity
