Am I alone in finding it unnecessarily cringey and overly sentimental? or does anyone else think the same? (Feel a bit guilty posting this, as it's loved by so many people - expecting a few biscuits to come my way ).

I also like DVD but not in Mary Poppins, because of the accent.

I now enjoy watching it with my DDs, and especially from the parents’ side. I like the character of Mr Banks, and how he changes through the conversation of the film.

I love the songs too.

I kept trying to snap my fingers to tidy my room.

I saw it when it came out and along with Oliver they are two films guaranteed to make me sob.

Saving Mr banks...'I dropped the pears' gets me everytime!

Never used to really like Mary Poppins but like it a lot more now older. The penguins and Dirks accent however...

Looking forward to the sequel :-D Hopefully he has gotten better at the accent

Im not a huge fan.
And as a fellow nanny i dont think she is a good nanny. It irritates me when i read nanny adverts 'looking for Mary Poppins'. sometimes i really feel like replying to say 'Are you sure? Marry Poppins gave the kids a spoonfull of sugar ( drugs) to help them sleep. She told her boss that she never explains anything. Told the kids she will call the police on them. Left them alone with the chimney sweeper guy. Is he a drug dealer btw? A lot of people seem to be on drugs in that movie, flying high as a kite, laughing hysterically. Then Mary just leaves with no warning when the wind changes and tells the upset kids that she doesnt love them or something along these lines. Hm"

I’m pretty sure Emily Blunt is in line to play MP in the sequel? I love her.

I love Mary Poppins. First film my mum took me to see at the cinema.Before Disney allowed their films to be shown on TV, or released on video, they used to re-release their catalogue of films in the cinema roughly every seven years. I always looked forward to MP coming round again. I was an adult when it was first on TV and dh bought it for me when it came out on video.
I love the books as well.

I also have the LP with the songs and used to know them by heart. And I had the parrot umbrella, unfortunately, it didn't enable me to fly!

I really really don't like DVD's character - not entirely sure why. Does that make me a horrible person?

Julie Andrews was fucking amazing in it though. She's a bloody good singer.
