Calling an unborn baby girl "a little bitch"

Pandoraphile · 11/11/2017 16:06

And then going on to refer to older nieces as "little bitches"?

Overheard the nail salon and I couldn't believe my ears. It wasn't being said nastily, it came across as a term of endearment Shock

AIBU to have been shocked??

Some people are just vile. Using such language about, or to, a child says a lot about the sort of person you are.

ChampagneSocialist1 · 11/11/2017 20:15

Madam and tinker were the usual terms in my day

RoseWhiteTips · 11/11/2017 20:20

An unborn child being called anything derogatory is beyond horrible.

buntingqueen · 11/11/2017 20:22

I agree OP. I hate to hear people say things like this about their children, and would never say it about my own, no matter how annoyed I was with them.

MysweetAudrina · 11/11/2017 20:24

I call my ds a little bollox and sometimes I tell him to stop being a dick. I have also told my dd to stop being a bitch. But then I'm Irish and we seem to casually swear alot and so actually use swear words affectionately.

CardsforKittens · 11/11/2017 20:33

One thing I discovered as a parent: whatever we call our kids, they will eventually call us. So if we don't mind being called a bitch or a cunt by a five year-old, maybe that's reasonable. (But I still don't like it much.)

mathanxiety you need to understand that I think it’s disgusting and awful but those saying it clearly dont. When I say I’m trying to understand that what I means is they aren’t using the word correctly so I try not to feel too disgusted by it but I do judge and think it gross myself.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/11/2017 20:45

I think once you start calling them horrible names it's a very short leap to start thinking they are being purposely horrible to piss you off, rather than being horrible simply because they are children and tired/hungry/fed up.

And once you start thinking they are being purposely horrible to you, then it's a very short leap to being horrible to them.

Many reported abuse cases mention the abuser calling the child horrible names.

Roussette · 11/11/2017 21:40

Tinkly you put it far better than me. totally agree.

randomer · 11/11/2017 23:04

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 11/11/2017 23:50

Yanbu. When I was pregnant with my second I went into work one day and had lunch with a male colleague. He asked what I was having and I said no idea. He said ‘you better hope it’s not another girl. I have two little girls and they are both bitches!’ His daughters are 7 and 9 Shock. I went on to have a boy and when he found out he said ‘that’s lucky!’ ShockConfused

RavingRoo · 12/11/2017 01:15

It’s not bitch it’s biatch ie strong independant female.

WhatWot · 12/11/2017 01:19

It is not funny or cool. And makes them sound incredibly common.

WTF?

NoLoveofMine · 12/11/2017 01:50

Any male who refers to any woman or girl as a "bitch" is a misogynist.

73kittycat73 · 12/11/2017 02:24

It’s not bitch it’s biatch ie strong independant female.

Sorry but I've only heard the word biatch used on South Park, and not in an endearing way either!

Beeziekn33ze · 12/11/2017 02:27

Well educated and married friend had been telling her 3 year old ‘Don’t do that, darling’ in a strained tone for about an hour. Then she picked him up and said ‘Come on, off to bed, you little bastard’ in a calm and affectionate tone. Several of her friends present laughed at the contrast. So did she when she came back into the room. I don’t recall hearing her call him that again however.

CheshireChat · 12/11/2017 03:15

I find little bastard less offensive than little bitch. In my head little bitch and little shit are both equally vile, little bastard not so much.

I call DS a terror, horror and probably a bastard but never to his face or in public. Heck, I never call him naughty either, just define something he's done as naughty.

I call him cheeky, monkey, pain and buggerlugs to his face quite happily.

I don't think calling unborn children names is quite the same really and whilst I'm not keen and didn't do it, I can't say I find it atrocious.

Oh, and he was called demon child for a long time, probably until he started talking really.

Though I wouldn't call him that now because he'd demand explanations about demons and I really don't fancy getting into that.
