On Christmas presents. I decided to keep track this year as I went a bit mad last time.
I've spent 110 up to now, that is between 6 people and I have nearly finished buying for three of them.
I seem to be doing well up to now but I always look at the presents under the tree just before Christmas and decide it doesn't look like enough and then order loads of crap

glitterlips1 · 10/11/2017 18:21

I don't add it up. I just keep buying until I feel I have enough!

glitterlips1 · 10/11/2017 18:23

Calm down PoppyPopcorn it is only a forum!!

NamedyChangedy · 10/11/2017 18:24

Other than food, I don't spend anything on Christmas. Blush The DCs get so many presents from grandparents and aunts / uncles, it's ridiculous. And we always host anyway, which is generous enough. I've been trying (and mostly failing) to be an extreme minimalist for the last few years, so I struggle with the idea of bringing more objects into the house. Some of the Pinterest wrapping I've seen is amazing though!

FlouncyDoves · 10/11/2017 18:26

We’re moving house 10 days before Xmas so we’ve almost finished all our shopping, wrapped everything, and even sent most of it off to the appropriate houses!

Even written all the Xmas cards ready to post on Dec 1st! I’d have done them already but I imagine I’d be the subject of an AIBU thread!

Parker231 · 10/11/2017 18:27

Am doing all the present shopping tomorrow but I do everything online so should be straightforward. List is written for the food and drinks but will order online - I hate the shops at Christmas and haven’t the time this year for being stuck in traffic and long queues in the shops.

80sMum · 10/11/2017 18:31

Nothing so far.

Haven't thought about it yet. It isn't even the middle of November yet, after all!

Fortunately, I don't need to buy many presents, just a few things for the grandchildren and something for my mum and that's it.

gemdrop84 · 10/11/2017 18:34

Just over £500 but that's everyone bought for and Dh's was very expensive this year...I just have to wrap it all...which will wait til the Christmas tree is up at least.

MuddlingThroughLife · 10/11/2017 18:37

£807 not including a couple of bits I've picked up over last few days so probably another £30 ish to add.

I only add up gifts for christmas day. I don't keep track of things like pj's for December, extra decorations, cards, gift wrap, crackers, christmas clothing, advent calendars, food, drink, elf treats, etc.

ihavetogoshoppingnow · 10/11/2017 18:40

About £400 Hundred Blush I’ve done for the DC and my mum, no idea what to get my dad or DP, MIL and BILs get a bottle of booze each, my brother gets money. Got DS a Christmas shirt today. Still need to get cards, wrapping paper, Christmas pjs, advent calendars, stocking for DD and some lights for the gutter.

PortiaCastis · 10/11/2017 18:42

I've donated money to Shelter and will donate some to Women's Aid when I have it.

bumblingbovine49 · 10/11/2017 18:43

I have DS birthday, DM birthday, My birthday. Nephew's birthday and BIL birthday between now and Christmas day so no I haven't bought anything for Christmas yet.

The only year I had all my Christmas presents bought and wrapped early (by end of October) was when I was pregnant with DS -13 years ago!

DH has done his family but they live a long way away and he wraps and posts them all together and sends to his brother for them to be given out.

I always do it in December. Am dreading Christmas even more than usual this year

VioletCharlotte · 10/11/2017 18:45

Nothing. Tactic this year is to start late. Last year I started early... and kept going! Completely overspent, trying to be more sensible this year.

problembottom · 10/11/2017 18:58

Nothing yet but if I’m honest last year I spent about £500 on DP, £60 each on my folks, £40 each on my three siblings, £25 each on their three other halves, £60 each on my two nieces and three nephews, £30 each on four friends and um £40 on the cat. I don’t want to know what that adds up to! I can’t be the only one who goes a bit mad hopefully?!

Bit worried about how much I’ll spend next year if we’ve managed to have a baby!

schoolgaterebel · 11/11/2017 07:11

I've spend about a 1/3 if what I will spend. I try to buy in advance to spread the cost over Oct, nov & dec.

lalaloopyhead · 11/11/2017 07:22

I'm not sure on amount, but I've got probably done about half of pressies required. I work in an area that is very stressful in December so the thought of leaving Christmas shopping too late brings me out in a sweat!

Movingon1611 · 11/11/2017 07:26

About £120 so far on Presents. Still got a fair few to go but am trying to stick to £20 per person other than DC
Got 3 birthdays between now and Christmas too.
I’ve usually done a lot more by now and don’t like that I haven’t this year!

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 11/11/2017 08:04

Nothing apart from a parcel that I had to post to family in October in the vain hope their rubbish postal service might get it to them in time.... that contained presents for 3 and was about £40.

ScaryVeg · 11/11/2017 08:38

MomtoWed - what kind of thing would be cheaper now than in December? Every year I have to stop my Mum paying full whack for things too early only to see them drop to half price or less the week before Christmas.

lionsleepstonight · 11/11/2017 08:43

460 so far, but thanks to the Xmas thread all of it has been discounted by at least 20% so the true 'cost' would have been higher. Blush
One more pressie to buy, then 5 cash pressies to fund.
DH and I have agreed to get our pressies in January sales and we're in no rush and I love a bargain.

ivykaty44 · 11/11/2017 08:47

£0

Haven’t purchased a single present yet

lionsleepstonight · 11/11/2017 08:49

ScaryVeg i pick up bargains from August to October as there are loads about. Then there tends to be less from Nov to Dec in the run up, everything back to full price, then as we get to christmas week, like you say, the sales start creeping in.
So starting early does help, especially if you want to spread the cost and not just have the sales stuff to pick from. I'll buy very little from now, maybe a bit on Black Friday but that is a bit rubbish, and start again if required when sales start.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/11/2017 08:58

I lose track

I just spent £50 on chocolate!

I have a budget for the presents but then i find crap i bought in !!

I probably spend £300 on each child in total, dh and i dont do presents and i only do presents for 2 adults (£10 cap) and 7 children so the rest of the spending on presents is much more restrained

MsGameandWatching · 11/11/2017 09:00

Around £700. I’ve one more big thing to get for ds and a few bits for dd. But then that’s everything including all family members. Yes it’s only November but I like to be prepared and two gifts are sought after ones that could readily become unavailable before Christmas.

MsGameandWatching · 11/11/2017 09:01

Feasibly not readily.

catgirl1976 · 11/11/2017 09:05

I've only bought for DB and DSIL so far as they live on a cruise ship and DB is here on leave for a few weeks so I can give them to him to take back. I think I've spent around £100ish on the two of them but DSIS is going halves on 2 of the presents so that will reduce to about £60

DS has his birthday in 2 weeks so all other spending goes on that (presents and party) and then November pay is Christmas shopping. If DS wasn't a late November baby I'd probably start a bit earlier.
