To be pissed off with my experience at the hospital

I need to rant, my dd did something to her leg last night just seemed to twist it really, but she was in real pain and had a bit of a funny turn, dizzy, clammy etc, anyway she recovered but her leg was still sore but no swelling or bruising. This morning she still felt funny walking on it so I said u better stay at home we’ll keep an eye on it and take u Drs if gets worse. So then later on in the day she got up to go the loo, when she came back she had another funny turn, and said her leg really hurt! So I rang the Drs, they said to go to the hospital as it needed an X-ray. So off I go knowing I was in for a long wait, 3 hrs later a dr who hardly examined her, told me there was nothing wrong with her, they don’t X-ray that sort of thing and the fainting was unrelated 🤔. I explained again that every time she walked on it she went funny! They did some obs and sent us home! I so annoyed at his attitude I know they’re busy and the NHS is stretched but I feel really let down and haven’t a clue what’s wrong with her. To make it worse her dad (who is my ex) is moaning at me for not doing enough, and my current partner just thinks she’s been exaggerating for a day off school! Neither is helpful and I feel so annoyed and let down. Would you?

Unless there is an obvious clinical need they won’t do an x Ray. They don’t like doing it unless it really is needed.

How old is she?

I'm not a doctor but I can't imagine why am ankle injury would make you feel faint. Clearly neither can medical professionals.

Because of the pain!!!she is 14

Her leg, shin bone !

Pain can definitely make you feel faint and even actually faint for a short time.

The nurse recognised that pain would make her faint just not the dr!!

Well yes I understand pain can make you faint but we're talking a LOT of pain to cause that, No?

So... is she in a lot of pain? Or just these few times?

If she is in pain enough to make her feel faint and sick then there is a good chance she has a hairline fracture. I would take her back to A&E and demand a second opinion. If you think she can manage until morning then the other option is to. See a GP tomorrow and ask them to refer you

What i don't understand is how she can be ok in between?
If the pain is severe enough to cause fainting

And if they have to have a clinical reason why did the gp tell me to go there?!

Definitely keep an eye on it and if in doubt go back - or at least ring 111. That kind of thing could mean a blood clot? I speak from experience.

Because it’s only severe when she stands on it! And she wasn’t fainting before she had injury?

It’s very unusual to feel faint with pain?? Does the fainting ease after pain relief or get worse??

Ok but it seemed from the original post that she recovered from it and was walking about, although it was sore.
That doesn't sound like the kind of pain that makes you faint.

No cakey, the pain eased a bit after resting and pain relief until she started to walk on it then she complained about the pain and felt faint, went clammy etc

Has she had dizzy spells before? For some people its fairly normal to feel faint if you are in pain, especially if you stand up quickly. Did they take her blood pressure? Mine is low so anything and everything makes me dizzy.

Ligament injury. Often doesn’t show up on an X-ray and is really painful.

Nerve pain can be intermittent and really debilitating when it strikes, definitely enough to cause passing out, especially when completely unexpected.

It does make me wonder sometimes when hcps make an snap assumption and mistreat or refuse to treat because all they can see is that assumption. I guess when people are tired, or pissed off about working conditions it happens.

I’d wait until tomorrow and try again, with a different doctor. I’d also join up the dots very very clearly so there can be no confusion about the reason for the fainting.

I think I was just more annoyed with the Drs attitude, I know they’re busy, I know they’re stretched I heard stories of ambulances been called and not turning up for quite serious injuries, so he probably thought we shouldn’t of been there...I don’t know but the gp till tell me to go. It’s just annoyed me that’s all, very scary to see your dd like that 😞

Wellthisisshit yeh your right, they work so hard and are so busy it’s horrible conditions for them and us really, just coming away from there has made me feel unimportant, like they didn’t care and a complete waste of time!
