Kevin Spacey's career is over.

There is no proof! If these things aren't true, where is the justice in that? I just don't get it. By all means go after him and seek justice if he has wronged you in a horrible way.

I know people will disagree, but I think it's wrong to be removing him from films etc yet.

The point it supports is that there will be a lot
More of these allegations as someone rightly pointed out, victims feel safer in numbers.

And what’s wrong with that?
You keep saying what if at least some of those encounters were consensual? Does it matter if he only raped once or 30 times?

ghostyslovesheets · 09/11/2017 17:24

yes failing to see why that's wrong? It's a good thing that women feel safe

adventuresinbabysitting · 09/11/2017 17:26

Did I say anything was wrong with it? Why do people keep putting words into my mouth?

I don't support rape or rapists or sexual violence.

I don't support any of it.

There it is in black and white.

I stand by my ORIGiNAL point - Kevin Spacey may not be guilty
of any crimes but it doesn't matter if he isn't as people have already decided he is.

ghostyslovesheets · 09/11/2017 17:28

so what do you suggest? either women/men coming forward is a good thing - even if it leads to people being charged - and possibly found guilty or what?

I'm struggling with your point

DeleteOrDecay · 09/11/2017 17:32

People will always have opinions on cases that involve celebrities/people in the public eye. Not much can be done about that, you can’t stop people thinking and discussing what they think.

RebelRogue · 09/11/2017 17:32

As for what an open secret means... I’ll give you a small scale example.
My maths tutor sexually abused me(and many others). It was is the open though as most parents knew, gossiped about and warned each other about.
It was a secret though as us girls were never told,no complaints were ever made and parents kept seeking him out.
In their fucked up minds excuses like “he gets amazing results”, “she probably threw herself at him” and “my kid is not attractive enough for him”(thanks mum) made it all ok.
Half of a middle class society allowed this prick to abuse girls for years for the sake of good results and reputation. Given the scale, money and power of Hollywood you can imagine the cover up that go on there.

SilverySurfer · 09/11/2017 17:37

I don't know about anyone else but I don't make a habit of apologising for something I didnn't do and if someone falsely accused me of sexually abusing a 14 year old I would be shouting from the rooftops and vehemently denying it.

So if Spacey was innocent of sexual advances towards the 14 year old Anthony Rapp, not to mention all the others who are coming out of the woodwork, perhaps, OP, you can explain why he apologised? And then tried to waffle the apology by shouting not I'M INNOCENT! but I'M GAY, I'M GAY, I'M GAY?

stitchglitched · 09/11/2017 17:40

Kevin Spacey may not be guilty of any crimes

Kevin Spacey himself doesn't seem to be claiming that, he even apologised for one!

tigggga · 09/11/2017 17:47

If someone was molested five years ago, how are they meant to now conjure up proof out of thin air? Should everyone be walking around with video cameras strapped to them ‘just in case’? It is right for people to be speaking up about this, because it encourages other victims to do the same.

Thus is the problem with social media , you can't stop people gossiping people will decide to believe whatever they choose regardless of evidence etc but there's a man near where i live who has been accused of sending sexual pictures of himself to under age girls and also grooming his step daughter ,idiots are sharing pictures of him on faceback and acting like vigilantes , now I don't know this man and have no idea if he's guilty or not but hes already had his van set alight none of this vigilante crap cannbe helping the investigation there's one thing gossiping but people need to leave justice to the police and the crminal justice system.

MadeleineMaxwell · 09/11/2017 18:08

But they weren't bothered enough to cover their investments by not hiring him when, apparently, everyone knew what he was like.

Well, quite. Nobody in the public eye, on whatever scale, seems to apologise and quit before they're caught/accused do they? Sex pest MPs only declare themselves unfit for office after they're found out.

If your point therefore is that Hollywood is venal and more concerned about cash than victims of sexual abuse, I have to agree. No idea what can be done about it, though maybe this current episode of victims speaking out will do something towards that and make the moneymen (I assume it IS men) think twice about who they hire.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/11/2017 18:28

I think maybe there is a ‘climate’ right now. But it’s not a climate of fear and false accusations and witch hunts. It’s a climate of actually starting to possibly believe victims. Of people being less Teflon, more accountable for their actions. Dare I say, a tiny move towards actually protecting people from sexual abuse. Wouldn’t that be a balmy and pleasant climate?
