To argue that food products have an 'age limit'

During the recent summer, my DC (14 & 19) both went through a substantial amount of ice creams and similar treats. Whilst DH and I are pretty strict on the amount of treats DD (14) has, DS is obviously more independent. This summer, every day he'd have at least one or two 'Calippos'. Now I have no issue with this, I just thought it was pretty funny as it's not at all conducive with the "gangster" image he tries to cultivate. I won't tell him that though! It just got me thinking at the time, I would absolutely die if my husband started sucking on a Calippo in our garden or if we had friends over! I just couldn't imagine it, a grown man (or woman) having certain treats like that.

Don't ask me at what age does it become embarrassing, but AIBU to think there is one?

Lollipops should have an age limit of 12. Same for haribos and other cheap boiled sweets.
As you grow you should get more classy and your taste more refined. . Tiramisu, créme brulée, crépes, cream cakes, chocolate bars etc

They're a bit hard to eat in the cinema though Grin

At my DBro & SIL wedding reception, the nibbles included strawberry laces (in the big round dispenser of course), flying saucers, jelly beans, smarties, flumps, bowls of Frosties to be eaten like crisps, iced gems etc. there were also a few bowls of nuts & crisps but those weren't nearly as popular with their (all adult) guests.

I see both sides of the argument/debate...I don't buy variety packs of cereal, Party rings, Monster Munch, Mini Milks, etc...I buy Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, bags of Scottish oats, 'naice' shortbread, Pringles and Mini Magnums (own shops version). Some food items are marketed at kids not adults and as we don't have little kids anymore we don't buy them. DD would look bemusingly at a Mini Milk if offered one these days.
I don't lose sleep over it though, and I am looking at a Christmas Colin this year for our Boxing Day High Tea with a group of friends.

No age limits for food here - I love shrimps and candy false teeth

FeelingAggrieved · 09/11/2017 13:14

YABU. Please lighten up.

DonkeyOaty · 09/11/2017 13:17

Condensed milk in a tube? Like toothpaste? Come to Momma.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2017 13:21

Should I be hiding my curly wurly wrapper?

MrsOverTheRoad · 09/11/2017 13:22

My husband eats them all the time. We're in Australia and people need them here!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/11/2017 13:23

I'm guessing this is lighthearted?
In our house- anything bright coloured, sprinkle topped or fruit flavoured = kids. Anything chocolate, eg magnums = grown ups. Party rings = kids. Hobnobs = grown ups.

Rugratwrangler · 09/11/2017 13:23

Eww you can get milk in a tube? I don't like milk to begin with, but in a tube?

MrsDOnofrio · 09/11/2017 13:24

I’m 49 and still eat Farley’s Rusks

sooperdooper · 09/11/2017 13:24

I really fancy a Calippo now

TossDaily · 09/11/2017 13:25

I let my 6ft5 17 year old ds choose the biscuits when we went food shopping this week.

He came back with Party Rings and Jammie Dodgers. I found it very cute Grin

cherrycola2004 · 09/11/2017 13:28

In the summer my Parents, DP and I all sat in their garden sucking on Calipos :) They are both aged 60! shock, horror.

I also eat frubes, pom bears, party rings, wagon wheels, crumpets shaped like teddy bears etc, etc

dancinfeet · 09/11/2017 13:29

I like Calippos, and mini milks. Haribo, and strawberry laces. And flumps!

neveradullmoment99 · 09/11/2017 13:40

What the hell is wrong with eating an ice lolly?????? I eat them, my mum in her eighties eats them! Why would you die of embarressment???

neveradullmoment99 · 09/11/2017 13:41

Its hot - Ice lollies are cold and cool you down = a calypo or any ice lolly.

Queeniebed · 09/11/2017 13:41

I shared a Calippo with my son over the summer. I'd be more worried about your son having a 'gangster' image

SabrinaSalem · 09/11/2017 13:46

Oooh I love Calippos! Lemon & lime are the best but hardly ever see those any more, just boring orange.

I am 30.

YABVU.

Giraffeski · 09/11/2017 13:47

My DH is a 'Calippo a day' man. Just saying.

Giraffeski · 09/11/2017 13:48

Sabrina the lemon and lime ones are available in the mini calippo packs from Ocado. Mixed box of orange and lemon/lime

taxi4ballet · 09/11/2017 13:58

I like a Curly Wurly now and then Grin

MrsBonato · 09/11/2017 14:03

OP are you my dad?

I have no shame in eating a Barney bear and I had a caterpillar cake for my 30th birthday

Ecureuil · 09/11/2017 14:09

I’m 33. I like good food (pre children we made it our mission to visit as many Michelin starred restaurants as possible).
I also love Calippos!

ShatnersBassoon · 09/11/2017 14:20

As if things stop being delicious when you become an adult! I'd happily eat a Farley's rusk if someone offered one to me.

My youngest prefers bitter chocolate, but my mum still buys them all Milky Bar buttons because that's what children eat Grin. That's the same silly reasoning.
