To argue that food products have an 'age limit'

During the recent summer, my DC (14 & 19) both went through a substantial amount of ice creams and similar treats. Whilst DH and I are pretty strict on the amount of treats DD (14) has, DS is obviously more independent. This summer, every day he'd have at least one or two 'Calippos'. Now I have no issue with this, I just thought it was pretty funny as it's not at all conducive with the "gangster" image he tries to cultivate. I won't tell him that though! It just got me thinking at the time, I would absolutely die if my husband started sucking on a Calippo in our garden or if we had friends over! I just couldn't imagine it, a grown man (or woman) having certain treats like that.

Don't ask me at what age does it become embarrassing, but AIBU to think there is one?

IMHO, this is very silly. Eat what you like, who cares what others think so long as it’s doing you no harm. Life’s to short

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 09/11/2017 12:25

Food doesn’t have an age limit... don’t be silly.

Ttbb · 09/11/2017 12:26

Yes. Chicken nuggets have an age limit of 8 max. Doesn't stop me from eating them if my toddlers don't finish them.

RockinHippy · 09/11/2017 12:26

Though as an aside, craving ice could be a sign of Anaemia- as DDs Calipo addiction turned out to be

melj1213 · 09/11/2017 12:29

My DP will only have a caterpillar cake for his birthday

You're making it sound like there are other kinds of acceptable birthday cake?!

No Colin the caterpillar, no birthday.

ArcheryAnnie · 09/11/2017 12:31

It's not a party without Party Rings.

(No age limit for anything except, as someone else said, breast milk.)

HotPotatoePies · 09/11/2017 12:34

my secretary wont let me walk out of the office eating a banana because she thinks i'll look a bit sexy and thats not the image she wants for our firm. Grin

Blackbutler86 · 09/11/2017 12:36

Haha you should have seen all the blokes I work with when I brought in the leftover Halloween sweets to work - they were more excited than the children I had knock at the door!

londonrach · 09/11/2017 12:37

Seriously you are joking op or either you abit strange...i need a fredio and some iced gems now!!!

JayZed · 09/11/2017 12:37

eats mini milk with no shame whilst looking OP in the eyes YABU

EngagedWithALeaf · 09/11/2017 12:39

I am embarrassed when I eat babybels, cheese strings and lollipops. Doesn’t stop me though....

SootSprite · 09/11/2017 12:40

I’m often tempted to divorce dh just so I can remarry him and have Colin and Connie Caterpillar wedding cakes.

The world would be a dull place indeed if food was regulated by age. Can’t go without my party ring biscuits, mini milks and chocolate animal biscuits 😂

RandomUsernameHere · 09/11/2017 12:40

I would eat a Calypo and I'm 32.
I also love pick n mix!

Clandestino · 09/11/2017 12:42

Oh, one more thing. Kinder Eggs - I have always loved them. I would buy one for myself, eat the chocolate, build the little toy inside and then present it to my DD as a great present Grin.

Liiinoo · 09/11/2017 12:42

YABU. Mini milks, Pom bears, jelly and ice cream, fish fingers - food of the gods.

BatShite · 09/11/2017 12:42

My mother still buys me a caterpillar cake on my birthday even now at 32 Grin

She gets one for the kids also.

She got one for DH once and he was a bit confused. As I had not explained the tradition to him and she just turned up with it for him. She also bought those candles that respark themselves for him.

So my mother has issues with me eating iced gems, but buys me a caterpillar cake each year and has done since I was a young child. Go figure

MsHopey · 09/11/2017 12:45

Mini milks and ice lollies are quite good calorie wise. Around 60 calories each. Very nice to cool down during the summer months. I love them and my freezer always has some in there just for me. What is a nice summer treat that is "suitable" for an adult?

Crunchymum · 09/11/2017 12:47

You forgot to put "light hearted" in the title OP.

Or should have posted in chat!

NamasteNiki · 09/11/2017 12:50

So your husband and gangsta son cant get hot and need an ice lolly?

Eolian · 09/11/2017 12:55

YABU and weird. A lolly in the shape of Peppa Pig... fair enough. That is completely aimed at children. A normal lolly is... a normal lolly - hardly healthy, but a perfectly normal snack for anyone. However, I wouldn't be remotely embarrassed by my dh eating a Peppa Pig lolly. A person would have to have pretty fragile self-esteem or be a bit shallow and over-invested in other people's opinion of them if they are so easily mortified by their husband being seen eating a certain food.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 09/11/2017 12:57

Ywbu if you were to Haribo without wearing the rings first or pretending that two of the fried eggs were your nipples.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 09/11/2017 13:00

I’m now worried that fish fingers have an age limit. :(

GabsAlot · 09/11/2017 13:00

dont tll me whn i can stop eating foods!

whats wrong with calippos i love them?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 09/11/2017 13:02

Doesn't go with his gangster image? Hmm

Ilikecheesycrackers · 09/11/2017 13:08

Aw Sunny don't worry!

Fish fingers do not have an age limit.

Especially in a sandwich with ketchup and mayoSmile
