to feel angry seeing pics of my friend's new puppy on facebook?

For the past year she has been telling me how she feels really bad but she's trying to re-home 2 rabbits that her children (a boy and girl, about 6 and 8) aren't interested in anymore. But she was worried a rescue would blacklist her from adopting animals in future.

Today I see that she has bought them a puppy and proudly posted pictures of the children with said puppy on facebook.

I assume the rabbits are still in a cage at the bottom of the garden.

I'd adopt them but I have a (rescue) cat.

I honestly feel like her values are so removed from mine that I can't be friends with her anymore.

I sympathise, I’ve had friends and relatives who see animals as disposable toys 😡

But cats and rabbits usually co-exist fairly peacefully so perhaps you could consider taking the rabbits on if that's all that's stopping you?

Cat's and Rabbits arent too bad with each other.

One of my rabbits, once attacked next neighbours cat for starting on him in our garden. After that, they came to an agreement. Rabbit had one end of the garden and the cat could have a nice corner the other end.

Yanbu but if you are that worried about the rabbits take them to a rescue place yourself.

I had a cat and a rabbit growing up they never bothered each other I think the rabbit would've won anyway YANBU it's disgusting that she's forgotten her responsibility to those poor rabbits in favour of a cute puppy plus shes teaching her children that animals are here to give momentary pleasure and when you get bored of them you can give them away! what's she going to do when the kids get bored of the dog and all the responsibility falls to her the end because if she can't deal with a couple of rabbits god knows how she'll cope with a dog!

Thanks guys. Last time I saw her I was trying to encourage her to get the children to take responsibility for the rabbits but clearly that's not high on the agenda. I'm only in a 2 bed flat with shared garden and my cat is fairly feisty so I doubt mine is the ideal home for rabbits. I used to have indoor guinea pigs so if not for the cat id have them as house rabbits. You're right, instead of moaning on internet I will offer to find them a new home myself through a rescue or otherwise.

Give it 6 months, there'll be a 'Looking for a new home' post for the puppy as well.

OP just given that you've previously posted photos of yourself under this name you might wanna think about name changing to be posting stuff which is this outing....

After University one of my course mates left at the end and just abandoned her cat on the streets. She thought he'd just find another owner. I got him re-homed and I refused to continue contact or have her stay at mine for graduation.

Some peoples ignorance about basic animals care is just sad. I used to volunteer at an animal sanctuary.

We adopted two cats....then I saw on Facebook the owner had a new puppy. She'd just ditched the cats in favour of the puppy.

That bugs me so much. I had (had!) a friend who was rehoming guinea pigs as her kids were bored with them.

She got a cat after hers was killed- then was getting rid of that because it was not like her previous one.

Some people should be banned from being pet owners.

Missing the point, but I’ve had all kinds of combinations of pets and never faced an issue bar once (when the ferret escaped into the guineapigs area...)

YANBU.... hate rabbits dumped in a garden in a cage. They must go through psychological hell with foxes at night.

I know rabbits that have "escaped" (let out into fields to suffer their fate), and dogs never walked with barking & socialisation issues, and long-haired cats with matted fur all over.

Some people, however well intentioned to begin with, shouldn't keep animals.

Can't stand people like this, totally irresponsible. Probably bought from Facebook selling page, or Gumtree.

It drives me mad the way people get animals and then get fed up of them.

My older sister was like this and one day brought me her rabbit, stiff and dead - asking me if I could do anything. She had left him in the conservatory. I loathe people who treat animals like toys. Also, if the children do not spend time with the rabbits, they are the type of animals that can get extremely nasty. They need space and frequent handling, not a tiny hutch and no contact.

I get suspicious re the parenting ability of these people, too. With such lack of empathy and responsibility how do they act when their DC bore them etc? Are they able to consistently put their DC's needs before their own need for immediate gratification?

SIL has a rabbit that is ignored. For a start they brought it into a house with a dog. I don't think prey and predator should be together normally. One rabbit so it must be lonely. No one plays with it and now it is anti-social. Poor bunny.

I'm not sure people realise that bunnies have social needs.

She's not my sister is she op? I was 15 and she was 19 when she lived with her boyfriend and bought a pet rabbit and guinea pig that co-existed in a cage outside. Until I asked after their welfare one day and she laughed her head off and told me she had forgotten them so when she eventually checked on them they were just remains - that has stayed with me.

Oh God, Troubled - that makes me want to weep. Poor innocent things. I may have many faults but I tend to my animals well and always think about their needs.

She's never been able to 'stick' with any animal tbh punk she's had and rehomed a hamster, a kitten and 4/5 bunnies. She asked me if she could have our family cat because he has long pretty fur jog on love. She went mental at my dog for sniffing her boyfriends work clothes odd people out there.

Poor Puppy will be given away for free within 3 months....totally untrained and has no chance in life. Lets hope he doesn't end up as a bait dog :(
