McConnell taking a stand

.@SenateMajLdr on Roy Moore allegations “I believe the women.”

McConnell is the Majority Leader. Grin ( He’ll know the majority of the deposition sites.)

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 13/11/2017 16:54

I know, his handle doesn’t make it clear if you’re not up on who’s who though, not having his name in it! I’m surprised he hasn’t prefaced it with “if true”. This will no doubt spur bannon on even more.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2017 16:58

Moore’s .....predilections (if any) would be well known to his ‘colleagues’. Mitchell is likely trying to cozy up to 45. Poor deluded person.

PerkingFaintly · 13/11/2017 17:13

There was a really interesting statistical paper publ 2012 linked in Mike Farb's most recent thread. I'm fascinated by the use of statistical applications to detect fraud.

You can step back and say, this pattern strongly suggests something's wrong, this race over here should be investigated.

I didn't to get fully into the statistics, but some of it - like the graph at fig 6 - is pretty easy to understand.

Lordy, Perking. You don’t half read some abstruse stuff! Grin

PerkingFaintly · 13/11/2017 17:43

I have to admit I hate doing statistics - hate hate hate it. I'm so glad I don't even have to try these days.

But I do admire seeing other people's elegant use of quantitative analysis, which cuts through the noise and special pleading and reveals the shape of the landscape. Or at the very least, suggests where you might want to bore a few test holes.

When I came across a word I didn’t know in the ‘Abstract’, I guessed that I might be in trouble. (Yes. I’m not a statistician.) Grin

I like how they show you examples of clean elections and suspect ones. I prefer simple pictures to complex stastitical analysis Blush

Those officials might want to reread the text of the 17th amendment

The “until” clause here seems clear & binding

Unless those White House officials are contemplating that Senator-elect Moore is at risk of suffering some tragic accident?

Not good with statistics but I can cope with pie charts. Probably because they are called pie charts and lure you in that way. Smile

Sessions in front of the committee again tomorrow. Smile

Robert Costa‏*@costareports*
Breaking: Beverly Young Nelson is the latest accuser of Moore per stmt

And more are following McConnell's stance (although Collins might have independently come to the same conclusion, given that she defied him on healthcare)

Sen. Susan Collins@SenatorCollins
I have now read Mr. Moore’s statement and listened to his radio interview in which he denies the charges. I did not find his denials to be convincing and believe that he should withdraw from the Senate race in Alabama.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 13/11/2017 19:50

Also Orrin Hatch

Orrin Hatch‏*@OrrinHatch*
I stand with the Majority Leader on this. These are serious and disturbing accusations, and while the decision is now in the hands of the people of Alabama, I believe Luther Strange is an excellent alternative.

The person who should step aside is @SenateMajLdr Mitch McConnell. He has failed conservatives and must be replaced. #DrainTheSwamp

Sessions in front of the committee again tomorrow.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2017 20:09

I wonder whether 45 will/can reinstate his tweets about Strange? Grin
