To alert you to the fact that Topshop just changed its policy to let men into the women's changing rooms

Been made aware of this today: a 'gender fluid' man having a pop at Topshop because he wasn't allowed to use the women's changing rooms at their Manchester store:

twitter.com/travisalabanza/status/927198660089339904

Topshop have now been quoted as apologising to him, and saying they've changed their policy to get rid of sex-segregated changing rooms altogether.

Another shop to strike off the list. Am I the only one worried this is past the point of no return? Angry

Very clever saying ‘transphobic shit’ and not articulating why you think that.
Just top trumps everything doesn’t it...

colouringinagain · 07/11/2017 21:28

Rape crisis statistics:

Approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men are raped in England and Wales alone every year; that's roughly 11 rapes (of adults alone) every hour. These figures include assaults by penetration and attempts.

Nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted in England and Wales each year
1 in 5 women aged 16 - 59 has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 16

93 per cent of service users were female.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 07/11/2017 21:29

This is the man from the OP and his fellow "trans woman" anouk. This is what passes as female now? Fuck off.

I used to spend loads in Top Shop in one of the Manchester stores too.
Me and dd will be finding somewhere else, hope others don't follow suit.
Who wants men in women's changing rooms?

MoistCantaloupe · 07/11/2017 21:30

Ha, I meant trumps everything. Not ‘top trumps’ everything.
And quite @pisa. Think people have missed he’s not trans. Literally just a bloke in a dress.

LittleBlueDoll · 07/11/2017 21:30

Sailorcherries - I rarely specify the sex of a doctor either, but I fully support that it may be incredibly important for some people. I work in mental health and this week we had a referral from a very vulnerable woman who had experienced years of sexual abuse. She requested a female Care Coordinator and wanted home visits by women only.

I think sending Travis on the days that he identifies as a woman, could potentially be very harmful.

StaplesCorner · 07/11/2017 21:32

So if I don't feel afraid in a mixed changing room (just humiliated), and some of you don't, then its ok if my 14 year old DD is intimidated, because she needs to get over it? To accommodate men who are afraid of men ... oh hang on ... um, so a man who is trans is now at risk from the men in the women's changing room.

Oh but hang on, men aren't a threat, its just that 14 year old girls need to get a grip. Is that right?

So the person who is trans can feel safe ... where? Because now there are men in the changing room? And, them being an adult, can't they just get a grip? Or is it only teenage girls whose feelings and thoughts are irrelevant? Are the despised women and girls meant to SAVE the
fuckwit? more worthy person?

StatelessPrincess · 07/11/2017 21:32

Woah! How ducking dare they! I mean we haven’t been changing into and out of bathing costumes in unisex changing rooms at swimming pools for years now have we? I've never done that, I wouldn't want to and I bet lots of women wouldn't want to either.

CrocusEater · 07/11/2017 21:32

I mean we haven’t been changing into and out of bathing costumes in unisex changing rooms at swimming pools for years now have we?!

I've never seen a unisex changing room at a swimming pool.
Family areas, yes. One big unisex room. No.
Even the cubicles are sectioned off into m/f areas.
If the men stay out of the women's patch and the women stay out of the men's, there'll be nothing for anyone to complain about and no chance of any unfortunate misunderstandings for young or old.

Backingvocals · 07/11/2017 21:32

Thanks to the GRA, "man in dress" = trans now. No counselling, no surgery, no hormones. Just put on a dress, say you are a women and hey presto. Organisations are not legally allowed to say you are not entitled into women's spaces or to deny you a job or a place in a women's refuge for example. You don't even have to bother with the dress.

OlennasWimple · 07/11/2017 21:33

If someone reject gender and is neither male nor female, then surely using the women's changing room is an affront to their gender feelz?

If Topshop wanted to be (seen to be) progressive, they could have chosen a better poster boy / girl than that offensive turd

Zoll · 07/11/2017 21:34

I think if Topshop are committed to this ideology, they should be allowed their religious beliefs. It's a free country and they are not a public body. I do think we must similarly be permitted to discuss and object.

I will not be participating in their belief system, personally. I will go to shops where I am afforded some privacy and dignity and I encourage others to do the same. Let the market decide.

pisacake · 07/11/2017 21:34

"Literally just a bloke in a dress."

We don't know that he was in a dress.

See recent photo of him.

What would you do if Danielle Muscato went into a shop? How are you supposed to know, if it's a man who presents as a man?

OlennasWimple · 07/11/2017 21:35

Funnily enough, the first time that I (knowingly) saw a transwoman was in a Topshop communal changing room, back in the early 1990s when I was a teenager.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 07/11/2017 21:35

This is what I don't get about the nonbinary brigade. For a group of people who don't want to be pigeon holed they sure do like to define themselves by gender stereotypes!

AdalindSchade · 07/11/2017 21:36

Think people have missed he’s not trans. Literally just a bloke in a dress

Travis IS trans. This is what trans means now. He doesn't even call himself a trans woman, just 'trans feminine'. That's enough to get access to all women's spaces apparently.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 07/11/2017 21:36

Literally man in a dress

sailorcherries · 07/11/2017 21:37

I think that womens rights should be protected, however I will not boycott a shop over the introduction of a gender neutral changing room. Much like I wouldn't force a man to have a penis examination with a female doctor.

I cannot and will not get worked up about a changing room or use the war cry of "it's not safe" that a lot of women use when, in fact, gender neutral changing rooms are actually very common. I will not engage in that type of hysteria where some (not all) women seem to want to throw in their two cents for no other reason than they want to.

The question was aibu to point out topshop has gender neutral changing rooms. Yes, they are not bloody new nor is it a radical, life altering change.

pisacake · 07/11/2017 21:38

Danielle Muscato claims to be a woman.

These narcissists get a rise out of this shit.

Step 1. be a man
Step 2. tell people to suck your dick and balls on Twitter
Step 3. Go to Topshop dressed as a man to get a reaction.
Step 4. Complain bitterly on Twitter.
Step 5. Profit.

LML83 · 07/11/2017 21:39

Doesn't bother me. I get changed behind a curtain not bothered who Is in other cubicals. Family changing at swimming is normal now.

colouringinagain · 07/11/2017 21:40

But by changing women's to gender neutral changing rooms across the board because One Man complained.

How does that In Any Way "protect women's rights?

MoistCantaloupe · 07/11/2017 21:40

True. Didn’t have to be in a dress. Can wear whatever he wants and should be able to go wherever he pleases, as long as he feels safe and happy. What a progressive move.

StaplesCorner · 07/11/2017 21:40

where is the statement from Topshop can someone link?

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 07/11/2017 21:41

But where will it bother you?
Refuges?
Girls schools?
Women's uni colleges?
Women only scholarships to stem subjects?
Women's bays in hospitals?
Gynae wards?
Prisons?

Where do you think these men should be permitted?

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 07/11/2017 21:41

however I will not boycott a shop over the introduction of a gender neutral changing room.

It’s not the introduction of a gender neutral changing room. That would be progress and I’m totally in favour of that. What this is is the removal of female only and male only changing rooms. That’s entirely different. That is removing the choice from the customer.
