To allow my dog to lick my face (sort of light hearted)

DM visited this afternoon and was disgusted that I allowed Ella (newly acquired dog (lurcher) to greet me by giving me a full face wash (lick). I always allow her to do this followed by a big cuddle. I do of course follow this up with a full face wash. AIBU to allow this? Does anyone else do this? Does anyone know why dogs do this?

My friends chihuahua gives very delicate but enthusiastic kisses which make me feel very loved whenever I see him. Puppy kisses are the only ones I ever get so dammit I'm gonna get them!

my dog was absolutely not allowed to lick my face and yet every now and again she managed to plant one on me. I didn't mind. shows they love you, doesn't it

All of our dogs have licked (and continue to lick) all of our faces (though not mouths).

No-omne has ever been ill as a result of this.

YANBU - it's your face you can do what you like.

But for me......(and sorry if this sounds crude but it's true!!) dogs lick their own backsides, balls etc, sniff other dogs backsides - I'll be damned if I'm having a dogs tongue near my face!! Yuk!

Do you not know how much bacteria there is in a dogs mouth? It's bloody disgusting.

I find the idea, the image and the act disgusting. like really disgusting. I also don't "knowingly" eat from people whose cats walk all over their food preparation areas.

that said. what you do with your face and your dog is totally up to you. pets make us feel less depressed.

I am an animal lover but this grosses me out. I'm not even keen on dogs licking my hands to be honest.

I have a book by an ex SAS member about survival skills: one of the first pieces of advice is never let an animal lick your face.

I love dogs and kiss my own on the top of his head about 100 times per day. But if he ever licked me I would hate it - even on my hand, bleurgh!

Although if SpareLabrador wants to wake me up to ask to go out, she nudges my hand with a wet nose and if that doesn’t work, follows it up with a little lick
She wouldn’t ever do it while I was awake though

Any face licking is pretty grim - from human or canine!
