To not get Boden?

Just had the Mini Boden magazine posted through the door. It literally (to me anyway) looks like Next & H&Ms stuff but with a much higher price tag with the names of the little darlings modelling their clothes (that’s even if it is their real names. How do you pronounce Anouk?!)
They’re a couple of mums I know that swear by the stuff and constantly dress their little ones in it. I really don’t see the fuss or hype to be perfectly honest.
I’m not too sure how they’ve managed to get my home address, I’ve never shopped there and regularly get brochures from them.

You can buy Boden through Next. I can forsee one Boden obsessed fan getting in a right huff that It's just too common now. But she's like that. She's also the sort of person to say "I don't get.."
NEXT are also aping jojo/ Sandi and frugi these days. But then Boden are copying ideas left right and centre. Does it really matter with kids clothes?
If you find a single brand that works for a good intersection of your budget and actually fitting your child consistently then good luck to you!

Overpriced and dull. And the catalogues annoy me with their middle class-ness!

I presume the OP thinks Boden is a way to identify a certain type of person - and wants us all to be very sure that s/he is not that type of person thankyouverymuch

I like Boden but for me not DC!

Essential I would assume they get your details using exactly the same method that other unsolicited marketing does, they buy them from a company who you have bought from.

It’s extremely easy to stop though, one phone call to the nice ladies at Boden.

It’s just kids clothes get ruined especially the age mine are at 2 years and 3.

That's part of the reason I like Boden. DS1 had quite a lot of their stuff. The only damage he managed to inflict on any item of Boden clothing was a pair of jeans which eventually wore through on one knee after he wore them a lot for a year. Everything else looks pretty much as it did when new. DS2 is now working his way through them.
I also like that it's relatively easy to buy boys clothes there that don't just have monkeys, lions and tractors on them or are camouflage or dark blue. Slogans do seem to be creeping in these days though...
But obviously if it's not your thing, it's not your thing!

My daughter recently asked for a Victoria's Secret "Pink" fleece. IMO it was thin and extremely cheaply made but bloody expensive. She could've got a much nicer, better quality fleece from Gap. It was her money, so I let her get it, but told her what I thought and told her to make sure she kept the receipt! Sometimes you really do pay for the name

I love Boden - my DC's clothes are either nasty nylon sports kit, or Boden, or Mountain Warehouse.

The Boden stuff lasts and lasts.

You don't need to 'get it' if you don't want, that's what your paper recycling box is for, catalogues and flyers you don't need/want. Problem solved.

I'm not a middle class yummy mummy, I do have three kids though and have bought Boden in the sales and second hand for years for them. I rate it as far better quality than a lot of the other clothes we've also bought (Next, M & S etc)

There are 8 children in our extended family, I had the eldest boy who's now 13, my sister had the eldest girl, who's nearly 14. Clothes get passed from boy to boy (there are 4 of them) and girl to girl (again, 4 of them) and the stuff that's lasted best is always the Boden clothes. The fact that those clothes can last almost 10 years, and still look good and be worn by the younger children speaks volumes to me.

I also wasn't a fan of tractor motifs and 'mummy's little monkey' that every Next top for boys was plastered with when my eldest was younger, so it was Boden, or Frugi, or Molo clothes for him. I like bright colours, and stripes and star prints, and don't like slogans and grown up clothes shrunk down and put on children. I also have a 7 year old daughter and whilst I quite liked some of the younger girl's clothes in Next, they went through a dubious stage when it came to the older girl's range where it all seemed to be crop tops and bikinis, or glittery hotpants, none of which I'm letting a 7 year old wear!

Wondering if Boden is a regional thing? I mean, I know it’s available nationally by mail order, internet shopping etc, but I’m in the West Mids and don’t know one single child or adult who wears Boden. And that goes for friends in both the traditional working class Black Country and the more affluent and rural Worcestershire and Shropshire.
I don’t think I’d even heard of Boden till I came on mumsnet.

Don’t know if that’s true or not but my son is the only one iv seen in our area that wears Boden. In fact a couple of people have asked about an outfit he’s had on and when iv told them it’s Boden they didn’t have a clue what it was!

Thanks for all the sneery hub bub OP. I finally checked out Boden has to offer and I actually like a lot of their clothes! It fills the gap for me that Banana Republic left when they packed up shop in the UK.

I like Bowden for DD and sometimes me. Never buy it full price though, they shower you with offers and vouchers. Sale discounts always v good too.
I like the simple designs and the fact that the clothes are fun, hard wearing and practical. I share grown out of clothes with friends and some items are on their third owner. I also buy Next, occasionally M&S, H&M but quite often Tu (Sainsbury's) so am not a label snob.

I really like it for children's clothes and office wear for me. The stuff washes well and never looks tired.

I was a total sucker for the cute baby and toddler stuff. I live in a village where we pass our old stuff on to each other, my kids' toddler clothes have been doing the rounds for years (they are 7 and 10 now), and it's pretty much the old Boden stuff that still looks great on all the tinies.

I don't buy mine so much of it now, but I will replace a coat or another big piece with Boden if I can as their sizes seem to last forever on the kids if you buy wisely. My daughter loves their slightly kooky patterned knee socks too, love a bit of Boden.

And yes, the bastards make it very easy by sending money off codes all the time!

I've found posting a negative review seems to get you off their mailing list.

After a friendly exchange about a negative review I posted a couple of years ago I've seen not a single catalogue since Smile.

I have things from mini Boden from when my DB and I were little that my DM kept, all got a lot of wear but will be perfect for DD once she's big enough. I like that the bodens children's range looks like clothing for children, it's not mini adult stuff that you see in a lot of places. The dresses in particular are lovely and traditional with collars and pleating.

Some people like it and are willing to pay a bit more because of that, there's nothing to 'get'. It's the MN obsession with Boden being middle class and a lot of aspirational users that mean it gets discussed a lot.

Not a huge fan. I have never ordered any clothes for myself from it as they are not my style.

I have bought quite a bit of mini-Boden and I didn’t find they wash particularly well. I also find their sizing to be very generous. I haven’t bought from them in a while though so off to take a look.

A friend bought me some footless sleepsuits from there for the twins and the quality is far better than Next etc. We wore those things to death and they still looked good. When they're bigger and clothes last longer I'll definitely buy. Then again, I mainly buy scandi stuff because I can sell it for nearly as much as it costs new when it's used.

Missing the point of the thread but is Anouk a girls name? Someone said equivalent to Anna?

I thought it was a boys name of Arabic origin. Wonder if there’s a similar one that I’m thinking of.

But I am very grateful for you for bestowing your wisdom, making me feel suitably stupid and humbled, etc etc, Hmm

That was a level of twattishness so unique and contrived I have to admit I'm somewhat impressed.
