to expect my neighbours not to smoke on their patio on lovely sunny days because I can smell it and it's HORRIBLE

Of course, I am being unreasonable and I have absolutely no intention of suggesting they don't do it but it doesn't stop me grumbling to myself every time I get a whiff of cigarette smoke on my patio of in through the open kitchen door. It's so foul! I have no idea why people smoke at all, it's completely beyond me. It has to be one of the most antisocial habits in the world

Ponces!

Have you tried lighting up joss sticks or something in your garden when they are doing it?

Also you could buy them as a present, Richard Craze's book "Stop Smoking, Stay Cool" publ. by White Ladder Press www.whiteladderpress.com. Give it to them with a cheery smile and tell them that Mr Craze died last year of smoking related diseases when his youngest child was 3.

soupdragon - I feel the same - they smoke leaning out of their back dooor and towards my garden and I can smell it - yuck - but of course I am being totally unreasonable as it's their garden...but grrrrrr

I work p/t as a homecarer and last week visited a new couple in their house and they were in the back room of their house and i'm not kidding the air was blue! with cigarette smoke.
Luckily i did not have to do much and got out pretty sharpish.
Had to spray myself with deo just to get rid of the smell and then of course next cliend complained i had too much perfume on!

Also i think this smoking ban is going to mean that all the smokers are going to avoid going out and will hang around their or their friends houses and then there will be loads of people smoking in their gardens and houses.
Will be quite intimidating as well outside pubs as they will be all huddled up outside.#
What are they going to do when its really cold in winter?

Yep, as you already know, you are being unreasonable not wanting people to smoke outside their own home, but it is quite reasonable to hate the smell. The smoking ban doesn't cover outdoors or people's houses obviously. I used to smoke and my partner still does occasionally (but not very often and only outside) and I can't stand the smell when he's just had one, I'm quite appalled at the thought that I used to reek so horribly.

Pixiefish · 01/07/2007 19:21

You are being totally reasonable in hating to it. I hate the pong. When I go to MIL's even though she doesn't actually smoke when we're there the air is soooooo thick with it that we stink to high heaven when we come out.

I live in Wales and there's been a ban here since April and it's lovely. Am glad England has gone for the ban as well now as I do occasionally visit friends in England and oftentimes forget that they haven't got the ban

Pixiefish · 01/07/2007 19:22

Ripeberry- loads of pubs round here (there's already a ban in force) have built exterior porches or gazebos to accomodate smokers

ScottishMummy · 01/07/2007 19:26

maybe get on google purchase your own oxygen chamber and helmet in style of wacko jacko so u are never inconvenienced by your neighbours having the tumerity to smoke in their own garden - how inconsiderate of them

i think u know you are being unreasonable, so enough said
