Aibu to be massively panicking about a pup I bought yesterday? European passport

Very stupidly bought a dog yesterday who came with a pet passport issued in Latvia.
All vaccines were stamped in the book and micro chipping also in there.
Thought nothing Of it until I mentioned to a police friend who said this is one of the biggest scams going and he probably doesn't have any vaccines including rabies and threadworm which he could now transfer to my kids.
I feel sick with worry.
What a stupid idiot I am.
No vets will see him as he's not yet registered and its now emergencies only.

There are rescue centres full to bursting with dogs needing homes and still people buy from back street breeders. Have you any idea how awful life is for those poor bitches? Bred time and time again for quick money.
Jesus, I can't believe people still buy from them them.

Ohforgodsake000 · 05/11/2017 10:49

She was abroad until last night.
I have obviously spoken to her throughout the time of us looking for a dog over the last 6 months or so and she said to ensure any pet from abroad has the pet passport which will have a laminated microchip / rabies / other vaccinations section, which it does.
She did say that there's a possibility of foreign dogs being a lot younger than they're actually advertised at and as the mother is never in the UK it's a hard call to know but as said this wasn't something that worries me as he's clearly not a very young pup.
She didn't go into any further detail to be honest, she knows I'm aware of the breed complications.

That breed usually needs expensive surgery within the first year of it's life and they can't give birth naturally!
Breeding those poor dogs is abuse

GetYourRosariesOffMyOvaries · 05/11/2017 10:50

Did you do any research about the breed OP?

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 05/11/2017 10:51

That is heartbreaking. Jesus wept

No, it's posting a thread about it that's upsetting, apparently, not keeping these fuckers in business.

Now the OP will have the thread taken down and no more will be said...

isthismummy · 05/11/2017 10:53

You've been looking for six months and then bought an imported dog from Gumtree?Confused

JigglyTuff · 05/11/2017 10:53

If you've had bulldogs all your life, you're not just naive, you've been willfully ignorant and stupid.

People like you make me absolutely furious.

isthismummy · 05/11/2017 10:53

Pre loved sorry. I'm getting my horrendous puppy farm haven websites mixed up there.

viques · 05/11/2017 10:54

sorry, but this does not add up.

First post, OP in panic, can't get to a vet no vet will see the pup.

Later post,OP on the phone all night to 'various vets' and rescue centres.

Then the reveal, MIL is a vet!

Now MIL is enroute, and is picking up some treatment from (ahem) Pets at Home on the way!

Do try and keep the story straight OP.

Floralnomad · 05/11/2017 10:54

How have you done flea and worm stuff if you have not seen a vet ? Anything you can buy OTC without a prescription is not worth using , they rarely work . I think you’ve been well and truly conned , that Dog is probably way older than 5 months and likely has numerous uninsurable issues . Poor animal .

nonetcurtains · 05/11/2017 10:55

going on that photo alone I'd say the dog is way more than 5 months old, he looks seriously depressed and appears to have a malformation of his nose.

isthismummy · 05/11/2017 10:56

Very true about flea and worming. If it's not vet prescribed then it's no good.

I'm sure your MIL vet has told to that though? The one who still had to get her treatments from Pets At Home?Confused

isthismummy · 05/11/2017 10:59

Oh and Wolfiefan is right in saying those people very possibly didn't live in that house. It will have been a front for their evil dog trade.

Wolfiefan · 05/11/2017 11:04

I didn't think it looked happy or 5 months either. Sad

isthismummy · 05/11/2017 11:07

If that pup is five months then it's on growth steroids. Can't quite get over OP MIL saying not knowing the dogs age isn't a deal breaker. The dog you're paying £1800 for!!!!!!

I think it looks seriously miserable too. Then again I think all bulldogs do. Poor deformed buggers.

Actually hope this thread is a wind up.

deepestdarkestperu · 05/11/2017 11:08

No way is that pup five months old.

Why do people insist on buying pets from randoms off the internet, when they have no idea of the animals health, history, parentage etc? Go to a rescue or a professional breeder, not someone who just wants to make a quick buck and who has likely never taken the poor thing to a vet in its life.

DeadButDelicious · 05/11/2017 11:10

You paid £1800? For a 5 month old? From pre-loved? Really? If you knew you wanted an older bulldog why didn't you go to a breed specific rescue? They exist, I assure you. A quick google brings up the bulldog rescue website. Your money could of gone towards helping a charity and giving a dog who needs one a loving home.

I don't need to tell you about the problems flat faced breeds face. You know. We lost our beloved rescue pug to a horrible genetic illness this year. These dogs need our help, they don't need us to be funding the practices that hurt them so terribly.

Sorry a vet nurse not a surgeon
Well of course she can't just take things from her workplace and the dog can't be seen until tomorrow hence buying the bits from pets at home.
I always thought doing the flea and worming treatment was the first thing to be done upon buying a new pet, and if it's a Friday bought then unfortunately the dog will have to wait to see a vet so used that stuff until he can be seen.
I'm very worried and I realise I've made a terrible mistake.

OP posts:
Ohforgodsake000 · 05/11/2017 11:19

The picture is possibly making him look larger as I would say he's less than half the size of a full size bulldog and they tend to be grown by around 12 months, he doesn't yet have his second set of teeth either.
No I didn't buy him on a doorstep, I went into a home that looked lived in, her children were there and her own dog ( a French bulldog aged about 3 years ) and stupidly believed the bullshit

OP posts:
GetYourRosariesOffMyOvaries · 05/11/2017 11:19

Oh OP, you must feel like a total fool. I'm not being condescending but that money could have helped so many poor non fashionable dogs!

I have in the past looked into getting a bulldog too because of where I live and my lifestyle etc but quickly shot the idea right down when I educated myself with the facts.
Please learn from this OP. I'm baffled your MIL was behind you getting this breed?

deepestdarkestperu · 05/11/2017 11:19

If you wanted a Bulldog, why didn't you go to a breed-specific rescue, or at least a proper breeder?

In what world is it a good idea to spend £1800 on a "puppy" from some randomner on the internet? I say "puppy" because that dog is blatantly older than five months and it looks absolutely miserable.

Hopefully the poor thing is healthy and you can give it a good life, but please think before you buy pets on the internet again.

PinkyBlunder · 05/11/2017 11:19

Seriously?! You've had bulldogs all your life?!

Why is the fact he's a bulldog make this worse?

Because they're disgustingly fashionable and expensive. The scum that orchestrates this kind of scam don't go for your run of the mill Heinz 57 because there's no money in it! REAL rescues produced from the pack problem they have in countries in Eastern Europe are usually complete crossbreads.

If you know as much as you state you do you have been grossly irresponsible. There was nothing stopping you buying a pure breed from a KC registered breeder especially as you keep telling us that it wasn't the money that was an issue.

I can't get my head around this.

usualGubbins · 05/11/2017 11:20

I don't really need to say any more than has already been said. I despair at the stupidity of people where dogs are concerned. Of course we have no dogs in rescues in this country .... oh wait...

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 05/11/2017 11:20

Putting aside the many, many animal welfare concerns, as a long time bull breed owner, I really don't understand how anyone could bring an unchecked five month old bull breed into a house with children.

Dog socialisation mostly happens before the age of 12 weeks, anything they haven't encountered by then takes committed training to get them accustomed to, especially children. Bull dogs, despite their massive health problems, can still bite a bone in half.
