Long and boring- sorry.

We've been on the council list for a while now. Yesterday, we were offered a place. It's PERFECT.

The officer than came back to check ours. That's when we came back down to earth with a bump...

She's told us that, as the place is ready now, we may not be able to do the work in time (I asked for a week). That's painting the place magnolia, and a deep clean (we have cats).

She's going back to the office on Monday, and it would put us in good stead, I think, to be able to tell her that we've already painted, nd the deep clean is booked (it is- first thing I did)

Give me hope, please? I spent last night sobbing my heart out (unlike me- I'm one tough mf).

On a side note, we feel we should have been told what was expected of us BEFORE we viewed...we could have done it way before now!

It's mainly just me and DH. My DB will give us a few hours this afternoon, and I've had tentative offers of help from a friend- but she has so much on that I wouldn't be surprised if she cried off. (She's lovely- she's just going through a berevement)

I can see the hall being an issue, it's Noddy Hat Blue!

Please give me hope? I'm going to make a start now before the DC wake up, and I have to start working around them!

Finally home from work... and thrilled to hear your news.

I guess I can put my kayak away.

GottadoitGottadoit · 08/11/2017 23:35

We were all rooting for you!

What does 'rooting' even mean? Confused

mumisnotmyname · 08/11/2017 23:36

Yeah, well done!

2017SoFarSoGood · 09/11/2017 01:34

haha GottaDoIt - we WERE all rooting for her. Now that I think about it, does it mean we were snuffling about in the dirt raising clods of earth with our snouts? Odd term. Only ever used it in regards to feeding baby - rooting for the nipple - in the past, but now it has become quite the thing to say.

And STILL rooting for you, Radley!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 09/11/2017 07:32

Back!

Sorry- I collapsed last night slept for about 10 hours!

So...she walked in, and according to DH, her jaw hit the floor!

She said she'd never seen anyone as motivated as we'd been over the weekend.

We were even joking about by the end of it! There's room for a shed at the new house (my house!!!!!) and she told us about having to ask permission, which would be granted as long as the work didn't devalue the place. I said "yeah, yeah, and paint the grass magnolia when we leave...I know the drill by now". She laughed!

DH and my DF spent an hour afterwards having to drum into me that yes, she'd said we could have the house, yes, we'd passed, etc.

Never posted before , but have followed your thread. Well done you and your family for pulling together and getting this done!
My friend is giving up her HA Home and having to put it back as it was. She had to keep the old doors in the loft! So they are being rehung. It has to be tastefully decorated. She’s fuming with this. When she got her home, the wallpaper was held up with staples and didn’t reach the skirting boards!
Do you have a moving date yet?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 09/11/2017 09:43

Hopefully picking the keys up tomorrow.

Your friend will be knackered and stressed- but it's doable.

Maybe if you feel open to it send her the after shots to use as an inspiration to others as to what they can achieve. I sense a business opportunity for you!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 09/11/2017 10:52

She took some of her own anyway. But it may be an idea to give her permission to use them.

She just called and confirmed that everything is fine. I pick up the keys tomorrow, then I have two weeks to move, make it habitable, and prepare for Thanksgiving. I know it seems as if I'm making work for myself- but I'm a "busy" type of person. Being jam packed with stuff to do in the day means that I actually sleep at night

Does anyone have experience with swapping their wifi over? This is the first thing I need to do really, as I need the wifi in order to do anything else.

How long does it take?

OP posts:
SpiritedFlame · 09/11/2017 11:41

Yay, congratulations!

With the wi fi, it depends whether the place already has a telephone line installed. A couple of times I've had it within a few days to a week, but when I moved last year I had to wait 4 weeks as they needed to install the phone line etc. However, I live in a remote ish area so it may be there are less engineers.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 09/11/2017 11:45

Thanks for that. I'll work out whether it's better value to either get a month of BT wifi tokens, or a huge bolt on on my phone. It sounds dense, but I spent so long looking at the garden that I didn't check for a phone line, or where the gas/electricity meters are!

hi hun,very excited for you.
with wifi get in touch with your provider now.soon as.once they no yor new address they can start getting it sorted.with virgin I no they do a pick it up and take it with you. you get in touch.they (I'm sure try to sell new offers etc) look up address send out new contract you sign and voila.then you can do quick start up or get them to send engineer which I think cost a little.but doing it now means you could have all this sorted for whatever day you choose.
I'm not sure bout other providors but just get in touch with them.i think bt have often needed a few weeks.

youll need account numbers etc to talk it through with them.
I think sky is free unless contract needs changing and or a new satellite dish needs putting in
all I think say they need 2 weeks. but I there is a line already in it could be only a few days.
if you go online to the sites they usually have a moving home option somewhere which should tell you all you need to know.but like all things the sooner you let them know the better I think.
especially if you now know its all a go and what date you are moving.

kateandme · 09/11/2017 11:56

ooh just looked up this for you.fingers crossed this helps.xx

Well done Radley, that’s fantastic. Moving house will be a doddle compared to that!

wombatron · 09/11/2017 17:26

Don’t forget to take pictures of any meters before you leave (if you aren’t prepay)!!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 09/11/2017 18:14

We are prepay and, as luck would have had it, a man from Utilita came to read the meters today. I can't usually read them, but I was able to ask him to take a photo on my phone of the readings. (Involves a scramble onto a kitchen counter and I've hurt my knee)
