Are you an aeroplane seat recliner??

If so, do you not feel a bit guilty about the poor sod sat behind you who now has even less space than they had before??

I don't understand why airlines still allow this, there isn't the room for it!

During a long flight last night/this morning/I don't know I've lost all track of time, I wasn't able to use my telly as the woman in front made sure it was RIGHT in my face and don't even get me started on meal time.

So are you a seat recliner and if so, do you think about the impact on the person behind you?

Yeah I recline but only after asking he person behind me if it’s okay. DH had someone on the way to Boston put his hairy hand over the back of his seat and over DHs tv screen. He’s stopped after I said the next time he did it I would hold his hand, he did it and I actually held his hand haha! He said he didn’t even realise his hand was in the way... Hmm

Peachesandcream15 · 03/11/2017 19:22

Why would you not recline the seat on a long haul flight? (Save for meal times).

OnNaturesCourse · 03/11/2017 20:39

People saying tall people should book extra leg room infuriate me.

Why should a taller person be forced to fork out extra for the same flight? (Which you have to do for most airlines)

People just need to be considerate to each other.

expatinscotland · 03/11/2017 20:50

'Why should a taller person be forced to fork out extra for the same flight? (Which you have to do for most airlines) '

Well, of course they don't have to, but they certainly shouldn't expect other people to forgo using the seat in any way it was intended just because the person behind them is tall, or fat, or has a kid on their laps, or doesn't like it.

Hear hear! I really wonder what planet these recline-your-seat-at-any-cost type people are from.

The planet where passengers can use their seat in the manner in which it was intended? Grin

Ifearthecold · 03/11/2017 21:04

Of course tall people don't have to book different seats because they are tall. But they can't insist that the people sitting in front of them don't use their seats in the way they are meant to because they happen to be sitting in front of a tall person. Happily in real life I have yet to come across any anti-recliners but I have now thought about how to manage them if I do.

Especially because half the time you can't bloody get the seats because they're full of people who shouldn't be sat in them!

In fact going back to OP I think that if anyone should feel guilty it is the person who knows they will have a problem with the individual in front of them reclining their seat and may make and issue of this and still goes ahead and books the seat. Not the poor sod reclining their seat which they are expected to do during the flight.

AccrualIntentions · 03/11/2017 21:24

@FrancisCrawford
I'm not judging anyone "unworthy" - emergency exit seats are not supposed to be used by children or the elderly or anyone who wouldn't be capable of opening the emergency exit. But I've been on many, many flights where they've been full of just those people.

AccrualIntentions · 03/11/2017 21:25

And anyway, as you say - anyone can book them for whatever reason so why the assumption that tall people can just suck it up and sit there, when actually they're just as likely to be taken by someone else?

expatinscotland · 03/11/2017 21:25

'These people you judge as “not worthy” of seats with extra leg room could have excellent reasons for chosing them.'

Exactly! If I'm travelling alone I try for a window seat in the emergency aisle because I like to go to sleep and I don't want to be sat next to kids. It's not for only tall people. It's forever buys it first and can comply with the safety regulations.

AccrualIntentions · 03/11/2017 21:27

So why is the automatic response to tall people saying that people reclining makes them really uncomfortable in their seat that they should book them? They can't - there's always some bugger else already there!

Creamswirls · 03/11/2017 21:32

@ShotsFired “No, I only travel short haul in economy now, and there is no need to recline anything for a couple of hours.”

How about if you’ve had a 12 hour long haul flight and have now connected to a short haul flight? Hmm

If the person in front of you reclines their seat, recline yours! That’s what they’re made for Smile

TsunamiOfShit · 03/11/2017 21:33

expatinscotland Ciest you're saying tall people should pay extra for seats with extra leg room, and now you're saying these are not only for tall people but on a first come first serve basis.

Are you now realising that tall people can't always buy these seats and sometimes have to sit in a normal seat?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. If you recline, my knees will go in your back and we'll both be uncomfortable. I'm not sure why anyone would think that's the best solution but hey ho...

Crumbs1 · 03/11/2017 21:35

The answer is to fly business on long haul with a flatbed seat. Emirates service is fantastic, in my experience.

PandorasXbox · 03/11/2017 21:36

Well quite Crumbs, but sadly not everyone can afford that.

expatinscotland · 03/11/2017 21:40

'expatinscotland Ciest you're saying tall people should pay extra for seats with extra leg room, and now you're saying these are not only for tall people but on a first come first serve basis.'

I haven't said anything of the sort, only that tall people should not expect others to forgo using the seat in any of its intended purposes because they are tall. The airline stocks the airplane with seats that recline, if you don't like that, let them know. Same with extra legroom seats, the airline sells them on a first come, first served basis. If you want htem to be reserved for tall people first, let them know.

Until then, don't expect the world to revolve around you because of your physicality.

'If you recline, my knees will go in your back and we'll both be uncomfortable. I'm not sure why anyone would think that's the best solution but hey ho...'

Plenty of people have made it clear your knees will have no bearing whatsoever on their comfort, but if pettiness makes you feel better, I doubt the other person will care, particularly those who have stated they use sleep aids and flop into deep sleep.

I'm not sure why you're here arguing then if this does not affect you whatsoever? You are not going to fold your seat up if someone asks you nicely, you don't care about the comfort of others and you do t get affected by knees in your back. So what's the problem?

This clearly matters more to me (being th h comfortable one) than you, as you are 100% unaffected by this.

We're just saving you the trouble of making yourself more uncomfortable to make a point that won't be made....

80sMum · 03/11/2017 21:51

"How about order a glass of wine, recline your own seat and chill the fuck out."

^^This! Best piece of advice in the entire thread! Grin

I'm potentially saving her from a thorough soaking cos if I think someone is deliberately kicking the back of my seat, said seat is getting unceremoniously reclined at light speed when the meals appears. [grins]

I'm not arguing. I'm posting opinions on an internet forum. Hmm

This.
