Are you an aeroplane seat recliner??

If so, do you not feel a bit guilty about the poor sod sat behind you who now has even less space than they had before??

I don't understand why airlines still allow this, there isn't the room for it!

During a long flight last night/this morning/I don't know I've lost all track of time, I wasn't able to use my telly as the woman in front made sure it was RIGHT in my face and don't even get me started on meal time.

So are you a seat recliner and if so, do you think about the impact on the person behind you?

Heh. Yes, and you know what's coming.

"Well, not only do I sit ramrod straight for 15 hours when I fly to Australia every month, I hold my arms up over my head for the whole duration too, I just don't feel like a truly kind and considerate human being until my extremities are purple. Sometimes I line my seat with drawing pins too, just for extra credit, or ask the cabin crew to shine a torch in my face every time I'm about to nod off. I would hold my head back until I cricked my neck, but I haven't got room because I don't recline my seat."

In defence of the non recliners, if I'm on a day flight, I don't bother. I sit and watch films. I'm talking a long haul: Japan, Cuba, Vancouver etc so slog journeys. Night time I ensure I slam my recline into action, smashing it into the face of the person behind and like literally lie in their lap.... Or as most of the plane view it, gently recline as the lights dim.

If you don't, you're a bit of a cock Grin

Thanks for answering my question about why you think reclining seats are on their way out Bringmetea.

I have assumed that this: I think reclining seats will eventually disappear. It has already started. was in answer to me?

Either way, I would be interested to know which airlines/planes to not use reclining seats, so that I can avoid them.

EasyJet and Ryanair off the top of my head.

Yes, it was struggling. Jet2 also.

Sleazyjet and Ruinair barely count, they would put you in an enormous catapult if they could.

And charge you extra to be caught in a large net at the other end.

Exactly. Lack of recline is not due to any concern for passenger comfort. Non reclining seats are cheaper and lighter and you can shove them closer together as no need to leave room for any recline.

Well as long as an airline is marginally ethical and wouldn't switch to giant trebuchets if it were legal, I don't see any evidence that reclining seats will disappear for decent long hauls.

Reclining won't be removed from any but the cheap short-haul airlines and they don't really matter in the grand scale.

The whole question of only reclining on night flights is a bit of a red herring. The fact that the flight is taking place at a particular time of day, doesn't mean that everyone's body clock will be on the same time. A day time flight could be someone else's night-time. There are times I have taken an early morning flight with a long day ahead of me and wanted to get a bit extra sleep so will recline my seat to do so more comfortably.

I'm surprised that anyone would think the removal of reclining seats from mega-budget, short-haul flights means anything. I mean, seriously?

Just for use of 'trebuchet'.

I'm with the non recliners for the reason I hate having the person in front of me recline.
I felt very glad we were in PE on the way back from Orlando when everyone reclined on night flight (as did we), but the man in front of my son jumped up and down so much his chair was shaking the whole flight. If we had been in cattle class that would have been awful, luckily he was far enough away it didn't affect us.

So now not only can we not lean back a bit, we can't get up either?

(Though I grant that is a genuine pain for people in the middle and aisle seats and it's why I always opt for the window if I can. I've got a bladder the size of a space hopper.)

Would you like a recline barbeara?

Thanks again beingmetea and also ummKultum.

I'm not really bothered if easyjet, Ryanair and Jet2 (never heard of them!) get rid of reclining seats. They're only short haul and I'm not likely to be on one of them as part of a longer overall trip.

Anyway, as promised (not that anyone cares I expect Grin ) here I am reporting on last night's long haul flight.

As expected, everyone reclined. I was surprised to see that no-one (that I could see) put their seats back up for breakfast though.
