To wonder why my teen is stealing sugar?

One of my kids (both teens) is stealing the sugar. I don't know which one.

I noticed a brand new bag of sugar had vanished last week, I assumed it had been spilled by one of the kids who had failed to mention it. Actually that didn't really make sense at the time because neither of them is capable of cleaning a bag of sugar so well. Either way I forgot all about it.

Now a second bag has disappeared.

It's not me, its not DH. Nobody else has had access.

What the fuckity fuck is going on?

Plates in drawers

Oh, I hear you! DD does that. She is also a compulsive food stealer/hoarder. Apparently, anxiety is the trigger.

She sees CAMHS regularly.

MayhemandMadness01 · 02/11/2017 22:57

Order a GPS tracking device, hide in sugar and take a week off work.

picklemepopcorn · 02/11/2017 22:58

I’ve looked online. You can use sugar to make bubble solution better.

He could be colouring it and selling it as sherbet. Is he entrepreneurial?

Or using it to make his Mohican stand on end or his fifties net petticoat stiff.

littlemisscomper · 02/11/2017 22:59

Do you have a cleaner? We had one who used to pinch canned foods. There was a thread on here a couple of weeks back about a cleaner who was emptying the biscuit tin with each visit.

FrayedHem · 02/11/2017 22:59

Have you been experiencing a strong Easterly breeze? You may have Mary Poppins staying and she is a well known sugar-pusher.

Poltergeist Halloween Shock?

QueenNefertitty
When I was at school all the boys were juggling lit firefighters at lunchtime

That's conjured quite the image in my head. Grin

I'm another who ate sugar when I was young, though snuck only by the spoonful. Id never have dared take a whole bag, my mum would have noticed.

BenLui · 02/11/2017 23:01

Ok you need Theft detection powder. You can buy it on Amazon.

Mark the next sugar packet with it and the whip out the UV light when it disappears.

Could he be using it for a science project?

elephantoverthehill · 02/11/2017 23:05

Are you missing any tupperware? We made bombs with sugar and weedkiller inside packed lunch boxes. Our DMs were worrying about the lack of ice cream containers, well it was the 70s and sugar abounded. they don't sell the weed killer anymore

baffledcoconut · 02/11/2017 23:05

What’s that invisible water stuff that if they touch it, stains hands for days under UV?

Coat a bag in it, leave it a few days then check hands.

averylongtimeago · 02/11/2017 23:05

My DD also had a pet mould.

DS had a canned drink selling business at school, but I don't think there would be the same mark up on sugar unless it was converted into something else. Check the shed.
Could he have hidden the still at a friends house?

ShoesHaveSouls · 02/11/2017 23:06

FrayedHem - no, it's the sly North Wind.

ManchesterGin · 02/11/2017 23:08

Argh I can't go to sleep without knowing!

It's the potential new breaking bad situation that has me gripped!

Urubu · 02/11/2017 23:08

Making pretend drigs? DSis and I once rolled a joint with grass rolled in a piece of paper Confused I can't remember if we tried to light it up though

MrsOverTheRoad · 02/11/2017 23:08

Put a new bag in the cupboard with a TINY hole in it so there's a trail.

MrsFionaCharming · 02/11/2017 23:10

Are you certain you bought a replacement bag? And that it made it to the cupboard and didn’t get left in the shop / in the boot of the car?

SouthernComforts · 02/11/2017 23:13

Jam or Ketamine 🤣 I need to know!

5foot5 · 02/11/2017 23:14

Could it be something really prosaic like it being put away somewhere you don't expect?

We recently got a new bathroom cabinet (bear with me) and we keep over-buying toothpaste. Basically one of us notices the toothpaste is getting low so buys a new tube and puts it away in the cabinet - only to find the two unopened tubes already there.

Maybe someone in your house is just putting it somewhere unexpected

FrankiesKnuckle · 02/11/2017 23:20

Jam or ketamine...

In my day it was daddy or chips 😂

SequinsOnEverything · 02/11/2017 23:23

I must know where the sugar is going!
I really hope he's doing something interesting with it.

LuluJakey1 · 02/11/2017 23:25

When I was a child I had a shoe box with jars of dried herbs and spices and two tins of condensed milk hidden under my bed as a store incase of nuclear war. Grin

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 02/11/2017 23:25

Hmm bombs, petrol tanks and poitin were my first thoughts (NI as you can probably all tell) but with no nefarious motives suspected you could resort to my DGMs gem "sugar gives you worms" which my 61 year old DM still seems traumatised by (and sugar averse) and see which suspect crumbles?

BrioAmio · 02/11/2017 23:44

If he was cutting crystal meth he should be able to afford to buy his own sugar

Fucking hell, meth is one thing but I do hope he isn't flirting with Corbynism

Well that escalated quickly 😂😂

lucylouuu · 02/11/2017 23:48

cutting it for cocaine or ketamine

wictional · 02/11/2017 23:51

Are they perhaps taking Def Leppard at their word, OP? Grin
