To go to bed in the day?

-i am just wondering if I am.

Dh HATES it. He doesn't mind me having a lie down but thinks I should have a blanket on the sofa, not go to bed.

Says it's lazy and snobby?

So I'll ask here ... Wink

Your bed, your choice. Wink

Article on BBC yesterday about the disadvantages of not enough sleep so whoever has an issue with people having naps can do one.

If I have more than two nights disturbed sleep my health pays the price so I'll sleep when and where I damn well want. I love my bed.

ptumbi · 02/11/2017 16:42

My DP used to 'nap' during the day (weekends) for a couple of hours - only trouble was, he was not sleeping at night.

He'd complain that 'noise' kept him awake until about 2am. So he'd sleep 2am - 9am weekdays, then sleep during the day at weekends to 'catch up'.

If he goes to bed at 10-11pm, he would sleep through and not need 'catch up's. He does that now.

Pearlsaringer · 02/11/2017 16:43

Where will he be when you are under a blanket on the sofa? Crashing around the living room interrupting your sleep in guessing.

Pearlsaringer · 02/11/2017 16:44

I’m, no in.

Pearlsaringer · 02/11/2017 16:45

And one more time, ‘I’m’ not ‘in’

LittlePaintBox · 02/11/2017 16:46

If you're tired, go to bed and have a proper sleep! Most of us probably need more sleep than we get.

Appuskidu · 02/11/2017 16:48

Lazy-yep. Slobby-yep! I love it though and do it when I'm ill. I'm not sure about otherwise as I have kids, a job and a house to run. I'm not sure DH would be happy about working full time to pay for me having daily naps in the week if there was nothing wrong with me! Maybe he wouldn't care if the house was clean and the dinner on though!

We did have a TV in the bedroom but I found I was spending whole days in bed

That sounds unusual. Do you work? Are you unwell?

IHaveACuntingPlan · 02/11/2017 16:48

Yanbu. I love going back to bed on the days I'm not working. I went back to bed today because I have a sinus infection and feel dreadful and the sleep really helped. We have a huge settee that is quite comfy with deep arms but I just don't feel rested if I nap on there.

Even if I'm not poorly, going back to bed for a bit means I'm not out spending money I don't have or eating food I shouldn't. It also means I don't have to put the heating on either so saves a fair bit of money!

washingmachinefastwash · 02/11/2017 16:52

I think you would be more comfortable lying in bed than on the couch.

I don’t understand why your husband has a problem with you having a nap?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/11/2017 16:55

If you can sleep in bed during the day (I can't, DH can), then go to bed. You will get a much better rest.

Inkandbone · 02/11/2017 16:56

I do work a bit Appu but only on quite an ad hoc basis.

I can find it quite hard to get motivated.

My DH says the same, however I bought a day bed, it must be correct to use during the day.

LakieLady · 02/11/2017 17:08

A daytime nap in bed is one of life's sweetest pleasures and YANBU.

He sounds a bit controlling, tbh.

IrritatedUser1960 · 02/11/2017 17:10

i used to disapprove of my mothers habit of sleeping for three hours in the afternoon, I thought she was escaping from reality by doing it but now I often kip on my days off or in my lunchbreak at work as my arthritis flares up a lot and I feel exhausted.

Mary1935 · 02/11/2017 17:12

Sometimes I sleep badly and feel shattered early morning (peri menopause) I think - oh I love love love a nap!!! I do it on the couch with a duvet and some trash TV,asleep in minutes - tend not to do afternoons as once I overslept and school called !! I said I was stuck in traffic - needs must!!!

Inkandbone · 02/11/2017 17:15

He can be, lakie, it's worse now he's off work.

Lizzylou · 02/11/2017 17:15

I have a power nap about 4 times a week, straight after school.
Then I get up and get stuff done. It wouldn't get done without that 10-30 minutes nap.

Bekabeech · 02/11/2017 17:17

If you do need a nap most days, it can be worth just being checked out by the Doctor as tiredness is a symptom of so many things. And lots of them (various deficiencies) can creep up on you gradually.

Otherwise your H is BVU. My DH sometimes naps on the sofa but I find that far more irritating than using the bed. And I can only get a quality nap in bed.

fia101 · 02/11/2017 17:18

Love a daytime power nap

wheresmyphone · 02/11/2017 17:20

Point him towards all the BUCKET LOADS OF GLOBAL CLINICAL RESEARCH that shows how good it is for your physical and mental health, your productivity, your life span, your weight, your mood, your skin, ....I could go on.

Then go back to bed :)

Oblomov17 · 02/11/2017 17:21

I get into bed all the time. One of my favourite places to be. Knob!

abbey44 · 02/11/2017 17:21

Sometimes I go back to my bed in the afternoon, especially those drab grey and rainy days. Walk the dogs in the morning, come back for a bath and under the duvet with a good book. Lovely.

Thankfully, I only have the dogs to see such decadent/slobby behaviour and they don't care at all. In fact, they'll be up there on their blankets with me.

Saves having to put the heating on too.

Appuskidu · 02/11/2017 17:22

Spending whole days in bed (as you said you were doing previously) sounds worrying and would be impossible for most people due to work/childcare commitments.

Have you discussed this with a GP?

abbey44 · 02/11/2017 17:22

Can't you suggest he takes up golf or something similarly time-consuming...?

Abra1d · 02/11/2017 17:27

Perhaps he is worried because you used to spend the whole day in bed when you were down?
