To go to bed in the day?

Inkandbone · 02/11/2017 15:15

-i am just wondering if I am.

Dh HATES it. He doesn't mind me having a lie down but thinks I should have a blanket on the sofa, not go to bed.

Says it's lazy and snobby?

So I'll ask here ... Wink

He doesn't mind you having a lie down? That's mighty big of him! Hmm

Seriously, does he have so little going on in his life - or see himself as so in control of yours - that he sees fit to comment on your preferred place to have a nap? He needs a fucking hobby.

Inkandbone · 02/11/2017 15:55

He really does.

He isn't working and I want to kill him.

blackteasplease · 02/11/2017 15:56

Yanbu!

Wtf is he talking about??? It's not up to him if and where you nap anyway.

Can you tell us a bit about the circumstances that mean you need to nap and why he is commenting OP?

CappuccinoCake · 02/11/2017 15:56

I have me/cfs and probably depression . I like down most days. I wish I could function better.

Ninjakittysmells · 02/11/2017 15:57

I bloody love doing the school run then going back to bed! I’ve spent the morning watching Netflix and snoozing. I took snacks and drinks up with me too so I could fully slob out. Heaven!

Inkandbone · 02/11/2017 15:57

I just get really tired mid afternoon, I don't really know why, just up early.

He's not working at the moment (signed off) so moaning about it!

I love crawling into bed during the day.

Although I do think it’s a bit gross if you get in bed with your day clothes that you have been outside in (ie jeans and shirt that you did the school run and shopping in).

picklemepopcorn · 02/11/2017 16:00

There was a thread a while back where everyone thought the OP's husband was VU to nap on the sofa.

I get very tired at the moment. I often go to bed for an afternoon nap. In fact, I’ve been known to have a morning nap as well. And then go to bed at 9 and sleep through.Blush

ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 02/11/2017 16:00

I prefer going to bed for a daytime nap, but i will nap on the settee if needs must. Im not fussy Grin

Sarahh2014 · 02/11/2017 16:00

I can only fall asleep in bed with covers so if i get a chance to nap that's where I'll be Grin

asongforthelovers · 02/11/2017 16:01

Day naps are the best.

OvO · 02/11/2017 16:07

My DH knows the only reply to, "I'm going to bed for a nap," is to ask if I'd like a hot water bottle. Grin

I don't have babies/toddlers who need watched so I'll nap when I damn well please!

Though I've bought myself a cuddle sofa (2 seater) and as I'm 4' 11" it's basically a bed to me. I'm lying on it now with one of those massive long body pillows and a pile of blankets and I've made myself a nest. So I can now nap in comfort without taking myself upstairs.

Paperdolly · 02/11/2017 16:10

Oooo. OVO. That sounds loverly! Budge up! Grin

confused123456 · 02/11/2017 16:12

If you want to then it's up to you. Personally I wouldn't but that's just me.

OvO · 02/11/2017 16:13

Room for a little one, Paper! 5' 9"ers need not apply. Grin

Katinkka · 02/11/2017 16:14

I’m in bed right now

letsdolunch321 · 02/11/2017 16:14

Tell DH to get a hobby or accept the fact you want to have a nap at any time of day in your BED

AmysTiara · 02/11/2017 16:15

I couldn't go to bed in daytime but that's just me. I wouldn't think anyone who did was lazy or slobby. That's just rude.

Mittens1969 · 02/11/2017 16:16

In Southern Europe it’s the done thing to have a siesta so why not do the same? A ‘power nap’ really works for some of us.

YADNBU!

Sprogletsmuvva · 02/11/2017 16:16

Your DH has got it wrong.

Sleeping on the sofa - especially if you have DCs - is a bit antisocial, as then no-one else can use the living room. (Which is particularly a bugger at this time of year when kids are less likely to play out and/or the only tv is there. (memories from mine and DP’s childhoods here)

GerdaLovesLili · 02/11/2017 16:18

The thing I most look forward to when I've managed to boot everyone out of the house at once is a hot bubble bath followed by a nap in a freshly made bed.

I probably need to get out more, but that's my idea of bliss.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/11/2017 16:22

I have ME. I’m in bed most of the time.

CatkinToadflax · 02/11/2017 16:32

Got an evil bastard chest infection at the moment and I must say you are all making me feel much better about lazing around in bed. Haven't got Netflix though so I found myself watching bloody Bargain Hunt earlier, how's that supposed to make me feel better?!

Inkandbone · 02/11/2017 16:35

We did have a TV in the bedroom but I found I was spending whole days in bed Blush and it wasn't good, for my mental health apart from anything else.

OP posts:
SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 02/11/2017 16:36

I work nights so sleep during the day (in bed) often.

I do think that there can sometimes be an element of lazy slobiness in going back to bed during the day for people who don't work odd shifts (or at all), don't have an illness or disability, nor a child who wakes frequently in the night. Even so, it is still the individual's choice to make.

I could imagine the frustration of a working partner who is coming home from work regularly to find that their non-working partner has spent the whole day lazing in bed watching Netflix - all of the above health/family exceptions aside and assuming that the non-working partner was an able bodied adult. However, that clearly isn't the situation here so DP needs to learn to just deal with it.

I don't see why sleeping on the sofa is more virtuous than sleeping in bed.
