Too late for trick or treating now??

Is it too late now do you reckon? There was a stabbing near me (not my road) so took 2 hours to get home as all roads closed. Do you think it's too late now. We had a knock about 10 mins ago so I assumed people are still out. Just wondering.

I over-bought.

The Ocado man who is due imminently might be rather surprised

(and I hope pleased)

Walkingdead11 · 31/10/2017 19:20

I'm bringing pumpkin in at 8 on the dot!! Just had some 6ft trick or treaters but they insisted they were only 14.....but they were polite so I gave out sweets. I've only got tge sweets that no one else wants now.....oh dear.....

MrsHathaway · 31/10/2017 19:23

We've only had four groups, including when I brought our DC with our friends Grin and nothing for a good half hour. It was pitch black here two hours ago and we're on half term so everyone that's coming has probably already been.

Counterintuitively I'd expect more children later if it's half term, because parents won't be off work.

But yeah I reckon 8pm is a likely end point.

ohtheholidays · 31/10/2017 19:24

Fine where we are,we take in all of the Halloween decorations and draw the curtains once it gets to 9pm.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 31/10/2017 19:25

we'll shut up shop about 8.45 I think
we've had fewer trick or treaters than usual, so I've lots of goodies still awaiting collection

Fromrussiawithdove · 31/10/2017 19:27

Late! The question is ‘is it safe?’ I would be worried.

SpiritedLondon · 31/10/2017 19:28

I think if everyone observes the rule that you only attend houses with pumpkins or decorations then no- one should be bothered who doesn't want to be. I think you' ll probably be fine until at least 8.00pm or 08.30pm.

Ragwort · 31/10/2017 19:29

It's been much quieter here than usual as well, almost boring Grin.

Steeley113 · 31/10/2017 19:30

I wouldn't be going out at this time after a stabbing Shock however we're shutting up shop at 8pm (in time for bake off!)

StickThatInYourPipe · 31/10/2017 19:32

I hope not! I've only had one set and have a shit tonne of sweets left (m&s ones too!! Hahaha)

Glumglowworm · 31/10/2017 19:34

I was walking home at 7 and there were still loads of kids out

ElspethTascioni · 31/10/2017 19:41

walkingdead my 6 foot son is out trick or treating - and he is genuinely only 14, and only just turned 14 at that!

Cheeseontoastie · 31/10/2017 19:43

The stabbing isn't in our bit just the area but it's affected all the traffic. I live in south east london if you didn't go out when there was a stabbing you would never go out. Anyway after walking for about 15 minutes with only one house with decorations we gave up and came home. Was abit disappointed as it was there first trick or treating.

Walkingdead

I have 2 friends (unrelated) whose boys were both 6'3 at 14! One is now 16 and 6'7

I love the teens costumes always well done here especially the girls.

Willow2017 · 31/10/2017 19:48

It has quitened down here now which is just as well as running out of sweets! Put too many in the first load of bags i think but i love Halloween Halloween Grin

TeenTimesTwo · 31/10/2017 19:50

I've nearly run out, but will be stopping at 7:59 in time for GBBO.

CotswoldStrife · 31/10/2017 19:54

We got back about 15 mins ago - we went out about 6.45 as we'd pretty much run out of sweets to hand out by then, really busy tonight!

KitKat1985 · 31/10/2017 19:54

Just taken my pumpkin in now. DD1 (3) has just gone to bed and tends to look out of her window overlooking the estate before she falls asleep, and if she gets to watch a constant stream of people coming to the door then she'll never settle.

Though I have to say we had a load of people between 5 -6pm, and then only one person at 7pm, and no-one has knocked since, so I think people are pretty much done with it here now anyway.

Hmmalittlefishy · 31/10/2017 19:57

We had most around 6. Then dribs and drabs. All but one very polite. Turned off outside light and brought in the pumpkins ready for bake off!
We only go to those decorated here too
Sorry you didn't get to many houses op

VioletCharlotte · 31/10/2017 19:57

We ran out of sweets after an hour. Had loads of little ones between 5 and 6 who completely cleared me out.

ZestyDragon · 31/10/2017 19:58

Lots of kids out still here. We live in quite a large estate with lots of families. I reckon we have had around 50 kids easily so far but its started to die down now. I will take down the decorations at 8.30 or earlier if I run out of celebrations.

Walkingdead11 · 31/10/2017 20:03

Yes i know some teens can be very tall......tbh I do think trick or treat is for younger kids but the teens were very polite. Just weird to look up at these rather large children!

HamSandWitches · 31/10/2017 20:09

Last one here was 7.30 and my DC came back at 7.50. That's that done for another year.

Starlight2345 · 31/10/2017 20:09

yes ours was blown out for GBBO..

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 31/10/2017 20:14

We've never been threatened or anything like that here! Youngsters here generally only visit decorated houses, a few years ago one of the DCs was very poorly (nothing serious just needed peace and quiet) so we didn't decorate and nobody knocked. This year I've got through most of my 100 or so fun size sweets and EVERY child / teen who has knocked have been polite and complimentary about my decorations. Two girls knocked a second time and as soon as I opened the door they said "oops sorry we've already knocked here haven't we" and went to leave with a smiley wave - I gave them more chocolate! Haven't had anyone for about half an hour now ....
