H speaks to himself in bathroom?

AIBU to worry that my H talks to himself in the bathroom in the morning before work?!

He usually just mutters a few words, but today he sounded like he had a convo and started laughing.

Only happens in the morning. He has a very tough job dealing with global CEO's etc. So is it stress or something else? Confused

I used to do it in the bathroom for years while on the toilet. I was the teacher and I would talk to my imaginary class. I would start by saying, "Good morning class, how are you all today"

AspelK · 31/10/2017 09:58

I used to talk to myself all the time during exam periods, nothing to do with stress.

I would read/revise a topic then spend an hour talking myself through the topic - as if explaining it from scratch to someone else. It really helped me to understand it and for everything to sink in.

lurkingnotlurking · 31/10/2017 09:59

My partner does it to rehearse for the day ahead

smudgedlipstick · 31/10/2017 10:26

Wow, genuinely thought I was the only crazy who talked to herself 😂😂 I don’t know if he is normal or we are all crazy! I normally go over things I wish I had said, or practise things I want to say (but never will) fuck I’m bonkers 🙈

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 31/10/2017 10:29

Doesn’t everyone?

Areyoufree · 31/10/2017 10:33

I talk to my food. I am especially affectionate with my coffee.

lirpaloof · 31/10/2017 10:39

I do this all the time, especially when I'm driving. I'm so glad hands free phone conversations are now a thing as no-one can tell I'm talking to myself :)

redexpat · 31/10/2017 11:08

I once shared with a guy who use to talk to himself in the mirror. "Good morning you handsome fellow!" was his starting point.

Doobigetta · 31/10/2017 11:28

I think it's more weird NOT to talk to yourself. Lack of thoughts to be expressed? Excessive self-censoring? Everyone I've ever shared a home with has done it, anyway.

FGSholdthedoor · 31/10/2017 11:30

My DH does that, also quite a stressful fast paced job.
I think sometimes he’s practicing his pitches to the customers.

He’s also been known to randomly laugh to himself as he tells himself jokes in his head Blush

RiseToday · 31/10/2017 11:54

I talk to myself all time - a range of conversations/scenarios/confrontations!

I really wind myself up sometimes too, it can get quite heated Grin

LegallyBrunet · 31/10/2017 12:11

I do it all the time. I'm a first year law student, so sometimes I'll do it to practice a presentation I have or if I have a debate I'll rehearse my side and then try to think up arguments the other team might come up with and how I can counteract them. Other times I'll do it if I need a bit of motivation or when I'm baking.

ju1ie · 31/10/2017 12:26

Thank you so much for your responses everyone. I'm so glad to hear that so many of you also do it. Was just a little worried that he was going through a tough time or whatever.
Also, the reason why I stated his job is because I work in a different sector and don't fully understand the impact it would have on him.

I have entire conversations with Silly and Sensible going on in my head. Confused

Not out loud though. That would be strange.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 31/10/2017 13:39

Pretty sure a psychiatrist on some TV programme said it's normal for people to talk to themselves. That the only time it's a problem is when they think they can hear voices of someone else and that's who they're having the convo with. I do it quite a lot, especially when I'm driving.

PinkHeart5914 · 31/10/2017 13:40

I talk to myself sometimes, I thought everyone did?

KalaLaka · 31/10/2017 13:41

I do it too. I now have to be careful as I forgot the baby monitor was on Halloween Shock

Ausparent · 31/10/2017 13:43

I do this all the time!

5foot5 · 31/10/2017 13:46

Yup. Another one who talks to herself. My Mum used to do it too. Always just under her breath. I got the impression that it wasn't so much rehearsing conversations as going over what she wish she had said.

I have noticed my DD (21) does it too. Maybe it runs in the family or is learned behaviour or something.

StarsAndStripes18 · 31/10/2017 13:55

I talk to myself a lot unfortunately I don’t have an important job talking to CEOs, I’m just a SAHM Grin I think it’s the only way to get an answer back as DH and kids never listen to me!!

My darling dad used to talk to himself. He always said it was either a sign of madness or money in the bank!
It may be the first for me but it’s definitely not the money in the bank Confused

megletthesecond · 31/10/2017 14:01

Me too. Lone parent so if I don't talk to myself I rarely hear my voice at weekends. The kids don't acknowledge me but I can't ignore myself Grin .

2boysandus · 31/10/2017 14:04

I practice or reenact conversations for how they could or should have gone, usually in the bathrooms, sometimes in the kitchen! I try to just do it in my head while miming but sometimes comes out!

Eilasor · 31/10/2017 15:00

I talk to myself to process information. I've had severe anxiety since I was a teen, I'm ok now but when I have a lot going on all the time my head feels too full to think, so I either have to write everything down (essays worth of writing) or speak it aloud to myself. Talking to myself is more time efficient as I can do it while I get on with other things.

I really don't understand why people see it as a cause for concern.

I can sometimes make myself cry, or laugh im much funnier when there's no one else there, but usually I just make myself feel more relaxed.

eloisesparkle · 31/10/2017 15:08

My dh does it to prepare for meetings or to answer back his boss Smile

riseandfall · 31/10/2017 16:55

I go over scenarios a lot, things that have bothered me I thrash out and agree with the driving poster who talks to themselves in the car, hope people think I am on a handsfree phone! I often wonder what the hell I look like driving past having a full on conversation with fresh air!
