H speaks to himself in bathroom?

AIBU to worry that my H talks to himself in the bathroom in the morning before work?!

He usually just mutters a few words, but today he sounded like he had a convo and started laughing.

Only happens in the morning. He has a very tough job dealing with global CEO's etc. So is it stress or something else? Confused

Quite normal. I find the shower is the best place - background noise of water blocks out distracting influences, creating an 'external internal space', so that 'inner voice' conversations can be vocalised.

As others have said, handy for rehearsing conversations, presentations, interview answers etc.

I don't always speak out loud but do have some of my best thoughts - through rehearsing / imagining conversations - in the shower.

Puremince · 31/10/2017 07:58

I sometimes practice something I'm going to say in front of a mirror. Perhaps he's doing that?

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 31/10/2017 07:59

I talk to myself all the time.
Sometimes I have arguments with DH without him even being there!!

justforthisthread101 · 31/10/2017 08:00

I have my best ideas in the shower. Which I don't generally share, but will occasionally, unintentionally, in front of colleagues I know very well, say "in the shower this morning, I thought of....." I used to get funny looks. Now they just roll their eyes. Grin

Velvetbee · 31/10/2017 08:00

I do it when I'm walking the dog. I look like a muttering mad-woman. I think it repels all but the kindest most understanding people so I have lovely dog walker friends.

sadcaptains · 31/10/2017 08:02

I do this Grin

chipscheeseandgravy · 31/10/2017 08:05

I do this if I have a meeting/interview etc . I sort of go through how the conversation may go.

I tend to do it in the car, accidentally pocket dialled dp last night and he asked who I gave a lift home to 😂

Dieu · 31/10/2017 08:06

Another one who talks to herself. And very glad I'm not alone, reading this! although I actually am alone, when talking to myself

Steeley113 · 31/10/2017 08:06

He might be on the phone...

Or just talking to himself. A lot of people do, including myself. I tend to do it in the car Grin

DappledThings · 31/10/2017 08:08

I do it too. And keep bathroom does seem to bring it on more. I'm often embarrassed coming out of a toilet cubicle at work to find someone else in the room and not sure how loudly I've been talking!

LakieLady · 31/10/2017 08:09

I don't talk to myself, but I do offload to the dog when I come home from work.

She's a very attentive audience, and doesn't answer back.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 31/10/2017 08:10

Loads of people talk to themselves. It's fine.

Arguing with yourself is more of a problem!

Quartz2208 · 31/10/2017 08:12

Probably practicing a work presentation

I talk to myself in the bathroom, especially if it’s going to be a stressful day. I like to talk any scenarios out before I am involved in them

SeaEagleFeather · 31/10/2017 08:14

hehe smeaton :)

I talk to myself in the bathroom too Blush specially when stressed or anxious about something coming up. Husband tends to call in "did you say something?" which is a bit embarassing

Ivehadtonamechangeforthis · 31/10/2017 08:14

I thought I was the only one who does this!

I do it all the time, especially if I'm worried about something and trying to prep an answer to a conversation I might be having later that day.

Lozmatoz · 31/10/2017 08:16

Maybe ask him, rather than us?

ptumbi · 31/10/2017 08:16

Once when out driving with DH ( then a fairly new BF) I asked what a particular building was. he replied 'it's XXX, didn't I tell you last time?'.

I pointed out that I hadn't been that way before, and he said 'oh I must have had this conversation with you in my head'.

I talk to myself in tescos.

splendidisolation · 31/10/2017 08:19

I have very detailed convos in my head, it wouldnt shock me to hear someone doing it aloud.

Nikephorus · 31/10/2017 08:20

I talk to myself, reply to myself & laugh too - all out loud sometimes. I did wonder yesterday if DDog thought I was mad for chuckling away to myself but it seems she's used to it now. I probably do it outside walking her too.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 31/10/2017 08:21

I recite lines from Hamlet and Henry V in the mirror before I get in the shower sometimes. I pretend I'm on stage at the Globe. DH knows I do it though I don't think he thinks it's normal.

riseandfall · 31/10/2017 08:21

I talk to myself constantly either out loud or in my head.

TashaRomanoff · 31/10/2017 08:24

I talk to myself, sometimes to get a great opinion Wink other times to rehearse what I have to say Grin

PurpleMinionMummy · 31/10/2017 08:25

I do this alot. I find I talk to myself on the school run though, that's not so great Blush
