H speaks to himself in bathroom?

AIBU to worry that my H talks to himself in the bathroom in the morning before work?!

He usually just mutters a few words, but today he sounded like he had a convo and started laughing.

Only happens in the morning. He has a very tough job dealing with global CEO's etc. So is it stress or something else? Confused

DH does this. More muttering than talking. Normally happens when he has a lot on at work or if his worried about something (work or non work related)

QueenLetizia · 31/10/2017 08:34

I do this and I'm not weird. I say out loud answers I wish I'd given even though at the time I just opened and closed my mouth like a fish, or, I practice saying something potentially awkward or embarrassing so that it will flow out of my mouth sounding more assertive later in the day.

{not. weird. at. all}

Passthesalt1 · 31/10/2017 08:36

Thank god someone else has this. My husband talks to himself in the shower. Has done for years, at first it was creepy now I don’t care.

He says he just likes talking to himself

tailspin · 31/10/2017 08:37

My husband has lengthy conversations with the cat, does that count?

sizenines · 31/10/2017 08:38

My bet would be that he's talking to someone on the phone.

Oblomov17 · 31/10/2017 08:38

Do it all the time. Go over things, things I should have said, things I want to say. Laugh.
Loads of people on MN do it. Apparently.

@SonicBoomBoom

Biscuit

It must be tough waking up every morning and being you.

maggiso · 31/10/2017 08:47

I talk to myself when I am struggling to juggle all the things I must remember to do- especially when alone. Is your DH putting memos on his phone?

"Quite normal. I find the shower is the best place - background noise of water blocks out distracting influences, creating an 'external internal space', so that 'inner voice' conversations can be vocalised."

Gosh that is so convincing! That is why I compose my best lectures in the shower!!! Thanks, lottie, that makes total sense!

DenPerry · 31/10/2017 08:48

I do it most of the time! It increases when I have a lot on my mind.. it’s like there’s so much that its spilling out of my brain. I can imagine a CEO has far more to worry about than me!

When I was young I used to think the people I saw talking to themselves were all crazy, now I see it all the time and do it myself.

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 31/10/2017 08:51

Oh dear I do this quite often too Blush. Definitely not a CEO a simple veg farm here. DH also mutters away to himself when loading and unloading the dishwasher (never noticed it at any other time oddly)

ButchyRestingFace · 31/10/2017 08:53

Well, if you can’t talk to yourself, who can you talk to?

pantrylightout · 31/10/2017 08:53

Try not to eavesdrop, it never ends well

sayyouwill · 31/10/2017 08:53

I have pretend debate shows in the shower. So I’ll be the host, ask a questions, answer it and give a rebuttals. It’s utter madness but it’s me :)

PandorasXbox · 31/10/2017 08:58

Nice stealth brag, though!

All these men with their big tough jobs.

Really?

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/10/2017 08:59

I sometimes talk to myself outloud but not much. Some people do it much more. I think it’s nothing to be concerned about. It sounds as if he’s practicing conversations. It can work well. Hitler did it a lot Wink.

iwishihadmorehoursintheday · 31/10/2017 09:00

Where's the 'D' ? Or is he just 'H'? If no 'D' intentionally, does this hint that you have some other probs with him too OP?

For what it's worth, I think talking to yourself in the bathroom is fine! I do it when no one around to hear (to embarrassed to do in ear shot of anyone for the exact reason they might think it's strange!!!) I do it to practice conversations and presentations usually.

diddl · 31/10/2017 09:01

I sometimes do this just to try to get motivated & get on with the day.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 31/10/2017 09:01

I do it too. And I sometimes chuckle at a joke I say in my head when I'm out and about and quickly look around to see if anyone noticed Blush

SomethingNewToday · 31/10/2017 09:04

I always do this before I have a meeting/speech/interview/ presentation...it's just out loud practice!

morningconstitutional2017 · 31/10/2017 09:04

I sometimes talk to myself. We used to joke about it being the first sign of madness to which the reply was it should only worry you if you start answering back!

But seriously, maybe your DH is having a run-through of things he's going to mention later at work, possibly in a situation where he's a little concerned.

HemanOrSheRa · 31/10/2017 09:05

I do this all the time. In fact I'm off to have a shower now and a pretend conversation with a very annoying work colleague where I say all sorts of wonderful and witty things. This won't happen in RL obviously, I'll just shrug and say 'Pffft. Whatever' whilst seething inside forever and a day Grin.

Viserion · 31/10/2017 09:08

My DH regularly rehearses conversations on his own. Not just in the bathroom. He does the full head tilt while awaiting his own reply, adopts a 'listening face', nods, shakes his head, shrugs, moves arms etc.
It can be quite unnerving. Took me years to get used to it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/10/2017 09:22

I do it all the time. I used to do it at work too, but in my defence the other person using my office also talked to herself, so at times we'd both be sitting muttering to ourselves in opposite corners of the room Grin. It was a standing joke for both of us. At home my family think it's most amusing to point out that I'm doing it, but I don't care.

I see the 'He's having an affair!' brigade are out in force on this thread. I sometimes wonder if there is no behaviour, however innocuous, that they can't twist into evidence of infidelity.

2014newme · 31/10/2017 09:27

I talk to myself constantly.
I find I talk sense. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
