Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

I think it’s great for people who regret things, etc.

Saw it at the end of that film in cinemas.

Thought it was great Grin

''helen
"If in doubt dont" must be the worst quote ever to live by. By nature you soubtvthe unknown so you'd never try anything New!''

Wrong, your so very wrong, thats why I have lived on 3 different continents, and re-trained to do a rather unpleasant to many and sometimes dangerous job in another country

Lethaldrizzle · 24/10/2017 07:48

Insomnibrat, whilst I like the content of that quote, jack kerouac was a womanising alcoholic wife cheater, who used to leave his wife and kids for weeks and months at a time to go cavorting with his poet party mates. Takes the shine off for me.

Theducks and pandraws, love both of them. Practical and sound advice. Not PMA clap trap.

Inside every bag of shite, there's a speck of gold. Even if it's just a Carmac wrapper it's still there.

Good timber does not grow with ease:
The stronger wind, the stronger trees;
The further sky, the greater length;
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and men good timbers grow

"Stop living your life by accident and start living it on purpose"
Awwwwwesome quote.

AyeAyeFishyPie · 24/10/2017 10:06

This too shall pass.
Makes me appreciate the good times and survive the bad.

PollyHasAKettle · 24/10/2017 10:09

This does it for me -

If equal affection cannot be, Let the more loving one be me.

Llanali · 24/10/2017 10:13

Einstein: "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result".

And "Like many, love a few and always paddle your own canoe" are my absolute favourites.

"Attack is the best form of defence" is exactly how my X would argue and it was absolutely fucking horrible. I'd call him out on something and he'd leap to list my failings without addressing the point I'd raised. So not a fan of that quote! Grin

It's easier to list the ones I don't like.

"What's for you won't go by you." It really might, actually. And it presumes there's a plan somewhere. And so I can sit indoors watching Jezza Kyle and not wash for a decade but if it's my destiny I shall become rich? Oh ok.
"God never gives you more than you can handle" well he's a sadist then and it doesn't explain suicides does it?

I suppose one I do like is one I heard in the TV show The Office but must be older, "it's better to be at the bottom of a ladder you want to climb than halfway up one you don't".

MrsFring · 24/10/2017 10:27

' what goes around comes around' really bugs me because it implies some form of divine/universal justice. Horrible people doing horrible things often get by just fine.

BalloonSlayer · 24/10/2017 10:29

I like the Everest quote Blush

But what it says to me is sometimes even the strongest, most motivated, people don't succeed and it isn't because they didn't try hard enough or didn't have the right attitude, it was because something out of their control overcame them.

MyBabyIsAWerewolfAhwooooo · 24/10/2017 10:34

I hate any of the"it was meant to be", "it happened for a reason", "God has a plan", "God doesn't give you more than you can handle" quotes and especially ones pertaining to got picking special parents to give disabled kids to

paap1975 · 24/10/2017 10:37

A terminally ill friend has just shared this: "We, all of us, have a little cup of time left in front of us. We can drink it, or we can throw it away"

SilverdaleGlen · 24/10/2017 10:37

"Judge people by what they do not what they say" is my personal mantra.

But my favourite quote is actually from a newspaper article from the neighbour of the guy who drove into people outside Finsbury mosque. "I knew he was a bit of a cunt but people can still surprise you" (paraphrased)

ssd · 24/10/2017 10:40

the drains and radiators quote from here, mn

Talith · 24/10/2017 10:40

Just remembered another favourite from Ricky Gervais:

"As my old nan used to say "If you haven't got anything nice to say, then fuck off and be a cunt somewhere else." Wise words nan. Wise words."
