AIBU?

To just not 'get' Disney

Sure I agree that films are nice and mostly watchable but I don’t get the urge to visit the theme parks/ wear Disney clothes or get excited at the idea of the Disney shop?

The idea of spending a holiday in a Disney themed amusement park just gives me chills.

Disney was great, apart from the racism and sexism.......

I get it, I absolutely love all things Disney.
I feel like a lot of it's the nostalgia of remembering it from childhood, as most of the people I know that aren't really into Disney always say that they didn't grow up with it being a big deal to them as a child.

I don't completely disagree with you over the theme parks though, whilst I've been a few times and enjoyed it enough, they're not parks that I'd visit without children.
I go to theme parks to get a thrill, which is exactly what I got from Universal, but Disney felt a bit of a let down because after you've watched a parade once then they all feel the same, the rides aren't very thrill seeking except for Tower of Terror which is ace and I draw the line at being an adult and getting excited over a person in a costume signing an autograph and posing for a pic with me.

I’m very po faced about the characters too until the day my autistic daughter met Aurora in the Princess Pavilion at DLP. I couldn’t speak because I would have just blubbed. Her little face, she truly believed and was so awe struck, it was a really beautiful moment though I know others won’t get it.

Argh! Prepare for combat Grin

I don't get obsessions but it's each to their own. What bugs me is how people act about it (and disney obsessives often act in the same way as people who are obseased with glitter and unicorns etc)

To me there is a big difference between:

Person A - I really like [disney/insert tv show/series/books] and i visted these related places. Did you know... cool isn't it?

And

Person B - OMG look at [topic or thing] it's thr best ever! EEEEK! 10more sleeps until [some random event]. I love [thing]. (And insert childish or dramatic arm flapping, squeeling, finding any excuse to break into song etc)

Person A is an adult with an interest.
Person B is someone acting lile a baby and it is irritating.
