As title says. It seems that satsumas have completely disappeared off the face of the earth. I can only find them in Marks and Spencer’s. Satsumas are one of the greatest things about winter. I don’t want clementines, mandarins or anything else I want satsumas. It’s not that late in the season! 😡

I’m sure Aldi so the satsumas next to the easy peelers?

noblegiraffe · 23/10/2017 17:04

The official order of acceptability is:
Satsuma
Mandarin
Tangerine

Then not even on the acceptable list it's clementines. Yuk.

Kbear · 23/10/2017 17:22

supermarket satsumas are miniature as well. back in the olden days they were bigger I'm sure

our town veg stall is the place to buy them - proper fruit and veg to be had that actually lasts

Funko · 23/10/2017 17:29

Clementines are manky!!

Satsumas all the way! I have been buying them up in sainsburys. But once I start I can’t stop munching them.

Easy peelers are also pants.

BrieAndChilli · 23/10/2017 17:30

Easy peelers taste of soap!!
I love satsumas and could a bag a day, round here asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco all have them

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2017 17:40

I have only been in the small branches of Tesco and Sainsbury’s so not sure if the larger stores have them. But 3 nets for £6 is In M&S

Excuse my ignorance but which are the ones with the tight, thin skin that are really sweet and tangy? Those are my favourites.

To my shame I've never given much thought to which one was which but I had noticed that not all small oranges are created equal.

MongerTruffle · 23/10/2017 18:19

'Easy peelers' is the generic name for small citrus fruits, and can be used to refer to mandarins, clementines, tangerines or satsumas.

WeeMadArthur · 23/10/2017 18:20

£1 a net in Morrisons. I was over the moon to see them as I hate easy peelers with a passion.

NameChange30 · 23/10/2017 18:25

YANBU!
Bastard "easy peelers" have given me the rage for years. I regularly rant about them. EASY PEELERS ARE NOT A FUCKING VARIETY OF CITRUS FRUIT.
If DH goes shopping I request satsumas or nothing. Inferior citrus fruit is not acceptable. Occasionally he has been known to return with clementines. I may have considered LTB.

PS Ocado/Waitrose and Tesco sometimes have them. Depends on time of year but I think we are approaching satsuma season thank God.

safariboot · 23/10/2017 18:26

My DM got a bag of satsumas from Tesco and they looked and tasted nasty. Maybe that's a reason they're hard to find!

Tesco saying the green ones will still be ripe...I don't trust them somehow. While I'm sure that green citrus can be ripe, I fully expect Tesco to fob us off with unripe.

JustDanceAddict · 23/10/2017 18:27

Totally agree!!

WorraLiberty · 23/10/2017 18:27

YANBU OP

Satsumas are one of the best things about Christmas, yet last year all I could see were easy feckin peelers.

Charley50 · 23/10/2017 18:27

A baggy skinned juicy satsuma is a winter highlight! I'm with you!

frenchfancy17 · 23/10/2017 18:30

Aldi have them in. King satsumas or something!

Topseyt · 23/10/2017 18:33

I got satsumas in our local Tesco yesterday. I bought two packs and now DD3 has only gone and munched her way through one of them already. She is an impossible to fill sporty 15 year old.

Satsumas all the way. Whoever named the others easy peelers has clearly never actually tried to peel one, in my opinion.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/10/2017 18:38

Oh, now I do find the easy peelers are easy to peel, the problem is that they weren't worth peeling.
we never peel oranges here, just cut them into wedges and eat them that way.

ArgyMargy · 23/10/2017 18:41

YANBU and I have never knowingly bought a so-called easy peeler. Satsumas are an essential part of Christmas and are differentiated easily from other small citrus by their lack of pips and their baggy skin. Anything less than a proper satsuma is unacceptable. It's one of my bugbears. Bah!

wizzler · 23/10/2017 18:42

Absolutely agree. Thought it was just me!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2017 18:47

Clementines are ok after 23rd November. The feast of St Clement. But not before!

OP posts:
Charley50 · 23/10/2017 23:14

And ironically, satsumas are easy to peel!

Pandoraslastchance · 23/10/2017 23:45

I always get them mixed up. Which ones are the watery bland tasting ones?

ShoutyMcShoutFace · 24/10/2017 00:11

What the fuck. This thread is like reading a foreign language. I don’t like oranges. The white bits make me feel sick. I buy “oranges” for my kids and had absolutely no idea there was any difference between tangerines, clementines, satsumas and whatever the other one was. Aren’t easy peelers just easy to peel oranges??! ShockConfused

MexicanBob · 24/10/2017 00:24

Waitrose do satsumas but it's in tiny letters under "easy peelers" and what the fuck are "easy peelers" anyway given the fuckers are always a pig to peel!

MexicanBob · 24/10/2017 00:29

No Shouty they really taste different. Satsumas are sweet but tangerines and clementines are both a bit more bitter and mandarins are just rank. "Easy peelers" is some stupid marketing name that for some reason supermarkets think is a good idea. Like calling lamb, beef and pork "meat" despite the fact that they are all different.
