I don't want 'easy peelers' I want satsumas.

As title says. It seems that satsumas have completely disappeared off the face of the earth. I can only find them in Marks and Spencer’s. Satsumas are one of the greatest things about winter. I don’t want clementines, mandarins or anything else I want satsumas. It’s not that late in the season! 😡

Oh I agree. There's always millions of easy peelers in my local Tesco but rarely any satsumas. There was one small box last week and they were 49 cent each! Or 5 for €2- gee, thanks.

Unfortunately they created a very sad situation for DS2 (20mo) in the nappy department so they are banned from the house at the moment. He goes crazy for them and has been known to bite through the skin of unpeeled satsumas to get his satsuma fix.

5foot5 · 23/10/2017 13:58

Can you still get tangerines? When I was a child that was the only fruit I remember there being in the miniature orange variety and you only seemed to get them at Christmas.

jay55 · 23/10/2017 14:01

If I’m early enough they are in the free fruit baskets at work. Getting my fix without the pain of the supermarket imposters.

noblegiraffe · 23/10/2017 14:15

If you look at the small print on easy peelers, they are usually clementines which are disgusting. Sainsbury's usually have a small section of satsumas or, even better, mandarins.

Crispyturtle · 23/10/2017 14:15

This thread is like coming home! Satsumas are the best fruit, I even like eating the pith, I eat the segments in size order Grin WTF is an easy peeler?! Why not just give the name of the fruit?! It’s like calling a banana a bendy yellow, there’s no neeeeed Angry Sainsburys have satsumas, but agree that if you have an independent grocer that’s your best bet as they’re not pre-bagged and you can select the best (an exact science at which I am v talented).

HeadlessHorsemad · 23/10/2017 14:49

A bendy yellow GrinGrinGrin

londonrach · 23/10/2017 14:51

100 percent agree. All the others taste awful. Sainsburys doing them for £1 at the moment.

Wh1stles · 23/10/2017 14:52

I agree!
I ordered satsumas and got a bag of clementines with pips.

Bring back satsumas

MargotLovedTom1 · 23/10/2017 14:52

I'm not sure I could tell you the difference between a satsuma, a clementine, a mandarin and a tangerine.

Do satsumas tend to have loose skin with plump little segments?

notnowthough · 23/10/2017 14:53

And they aren't even easy to peel!!! Confused

Floralnomad · 23/10/2017 14:54

Tesco have satsumas , about 6/7 in a pack for £1 and they are very nice .

IsadoraQuagmire · 23/10/2017 14:58

Satsumas are much easier to peel than easy peelers anyway! Not to mention juicier and more delicious. Now I really want one...

TonicAndTonic · 23/10/2017 14:58

With you on this OP! Easy peelers peel easily because the inside is all dried up and horrible! Satsumas or nothing for me. Got some in Asda last week if that helps?

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2017 15:15

I thought I’d get a couple of replies, but it appears I’m not the only one!! I don’t remember this problem last year. I don’t mind clementines when the satsuma season is coming to an end. But I object to them at this time of year!

OverinaFlash · 23/10/2017 15:16

Went to Waitrose yesterday and got a massive bag of essentials satsumas!

I don't want easy peelers either, I want named fruit (and satsumas are delicious!)

wonkylegs · 23/10/2017 15:17

Our Morrisons always has them. I've bought some today. DS2 prefers them to clementines.

Hillarious · 23/10/2017 15:57

Satsumas are the ultimate in easy peeling. Is "Satsuma" too hard a word for your average shopper?

I love you all as much as I love satsumas and am now off to Sainsbury's on my way home to buy some.

Ttbb · 23/10/2017 15:58

I never really got the difference. In Australia they're just all called mandarins

Marmite27 · 23/10/2017 15:58

Actual clementines are fine, don’t get me started on fucking sweetclems. Hideous dry things that they are Angry

Floralnomad · 23/10/2017 15:59

There was an article the other day about green satsumas . Apparently they've had the wrong type of weather in Spain this year so a lot of the satsumas have not gone orange . Tesco have said that they are going to be selling green satsumas because apparently they taste the same whatever the colour . That said they only had orange ones this weekend .

Hillarious · 23/10/2017 16:10

I'm not sure I could tell you the difference between a satsuma, a clementine, a mandarin and a tangerine.

They all taste different, and they look different too!

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 23/10/2017 16:11

Satsumas are the best citrus fruit. No contest. So seasonal!

Roystonv · 23/10/2017 16:17

I had this exact conversation with dh last night quite spooky reading so many feel the same.

Taffeta · 23/10/2017 16:20

Easy peelers are a fucking disgrace of a citrus fruit.

Waitrose, Ocado.

I like the ones that have green bits on and are slightly sour.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/10/2017 16:33

Asda have them, just put some on my order
