While we go on holiday? Would this be ok? Obviously money and food provided.

ZooeyAndFranny · 22/10/2017 14:09

Fine.

C0untDucku1a · 22/10/2017 14:10

How old? Just 16? I wouldnt. 17 / 18 i would.
Depends on the teen.

SheSparkles · 22/10/2017 14:10

In theory yes, but it depends on so many variables!

Bonez · 22/10/2017 14:10

If you trust them it should be fine. Although you should expect them to face have friends over even if they say they won't!

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/10/2017 14:10

Of course. We left ours, but she is quiet and no trouble and was unlikely to have a party. We got one distressed phone call about cat sick, but that was all.

hollyrosedaisy · 22/10/2017 14:10

Why count?

OP posts:
Whinesalot · 22/10/2017 14:10

One of mine I would, one I wouldn't.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/10/2017 14:11

Can they get out and about, or are they housebound? I probably wouldn't, but think it's acceptable if they are responsible/not just turned 16.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/10/2017 14:11

Depends on the child. Do you have family/ friends nearby if there was a problem?

Santawontbelong · 22/10/2017 14:11

I lived alone at 17...

SheSparkles · 22/10/2017 14:11

For clarity I mean yes it should be fine, not yes YABU!

hollyrosedaisy · 22/10/2017 14:12

No family or friends but she is sensible.

hollyrosedaisy · 22/10/2017 14:13

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 22/10/2017 14:13

Yes if you can trust them i left 1 at 17 the other i wouldn't and didn't

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/10/2017 14:13

With no family or friends won't she feel very lonely.

LilyPondFrog · 22/10/2017 14:13

Yes of course

whiteroseredrose · 22/10/2017 14:14

Yes! My parents left me and DS is sensible enough (I think!).

RiversrunWoodville · 22/10/2017 14:15

My parents did and I was fine and enjoyed the responsibility (and didn't have any parties but then I'm not a people person Halloween Grin) I was allowed my best friend to stay if/when I wanted but my parents liked her and had plenty of food and some money left for emergency (still there upon return)

Allthewaves · 22/10/2017 14:16

If she's sensible and not likely to have parties. Is she happy to be alone? Plus I'd warn her not to say to people at school. Quiet girl next door neighbour was left for week by parents and load of kids from school just turned up univited as they knew she was home alone. Ended up calling the police when she knocked on our door in tears as they wouldn't leave, trashing the house and having sex in her parents room.

My mum and dad was shifting them sharply as people arrived as front door had been damaged beyond repair too

hollyrosedaisy · 22/10/2017 14:17

She says she gets lonely but I think she is attention seeking.

delilahbucket · 22/10/2017 14:17

I left home three months after my 16th birthday. If there is someone nearby they can go to in the event of an emergency (neighbour, family, friends house) then yes, they will be fine.

KarriPotter · 22/10/2017 14:18

My parents went away for a month when I was 16. I managed fine but I’m quite an independent person. I loved it.
But I did have a boy to stay, I’m not entirely sure how my parents viewed me at that age - they must have trusted me obviously! - but I got up to all sorts that they have no idea about.

EsmeMargaretNoteSpelling · 22/10/2017 14:19

I would. But only you know your child.
I have this same issue. I’m off on a 5 day school residential in December and want to leave my very sensible nearly 17yo in the house. She can do her own breakfast and can eat at her Grans every night.
My mother will here none of it and is insisting DD stays at her house, 2 mins round the corner. I am going to have to put my foot down and insist DD gets this bit of independence. I wasn’t even allowed on a bus unaccompanied before I went to Uni and resented the restrictions massively!

AnyFucker · 22/10/2017 14:19

Yes, have just done this with no problems and quite regularly do it over weekends

There is 20 somethimg sibling popping in and out though
