Is there a similar forum to MN for men? And if not, why not?

Multidimensionalbeing · 22/10/2017 13:42

Because I think there should be.

I don't hate men though it will probably be suggested. I really don't. And I think the forum should be open to anyone who wants to use it for advice.

But....It's becoming increasingly strange around here. We've always had the 'what about the menz?' posters derailing threads talking about the harrassment or abuse of women by pointing out that women do it too..... Though it seems worse recently.

But now it seems that so many threads descend into accusations that men are treated differently on MN and often they are. But surely that's because it has a predominantly female membership? Who will see things from the female perspective?

It seems to me that it's causing division and bun-fighting among posters when I genuinely don't understand why there isn't a similar forum available for men?

Why not?

Why does a man join a predominantly female forum to then point out that they're not being treated like a woman? Or....just sit and watch as the women do it for them?

If there is no where else for them on-line then why not?

I'm sure it's possible.

I didn't say this place was women only. I said I'd like if there was one.

BobtheFireman

It wouldn't take MNHQ very long to annex MN from the public part of the web if they were that bothered.

PrincessLeia80 · 22/10/2017 18:21

I see mumsnet as aimed at women only, though I have no problem with the odd male poster. I just asked hubby and he reckoned that men don't get single sex places anymore as things like men only clubs are no longer allowed.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:22

Well they are clearly not getting much revenue from male focused advertisers.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:23

Last two adverts I've seen are for 'Protect like a mother - Dettol' and 'My little Pony - The Movie'.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:25

If male posters were of any benefit to MNHQ, you'd see adverts for Gilette.

Trueheart1 · 22/10/2017 18:25

Krytensnanobots:
Just said men aren't welcome. I said that doesn't speak for everyone. Mumsnet will no doubt clear that point up.

Give it a rest, WE KNOW MEN ARE ALLOWED BY THE RULES, WE DO NOT NEED MUMSNET HQ TO TELL US.
Why are you pretending that you do not understand this?

JonSnowsWife · 22/10/2017 18:26

BobTheFireman.

DS loves My Little Pony so to be fair they ARE catering for all! Grin

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 18:26

The only ones agreeing with you Krytens are the men!

How on earth do you know that?! Confused
Do you have a special gadget that can look through screens and see who is who?
A spreadsheet you tick off when your "mandar" goes off?

Nobody knows who is male or female on here.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 22/10/2017 18:26

Ahahahaaa! I'm going to NAMALT! (Sorry everyone)

I don't have a problem at all with men who come on here because they are mostly interested in listening to women and engaging with them as human beings.

But posters who come on to mansplain and in other respects derail threads are extremely frustrating. It would be nice if we were allowed to talk about topics not entirely complimentary to men without derailing tactics inevitably kicking in.

BoneyBackJefferson · 22/10/2017 18:27

I have john Lewis, Bryan Adams and gousto.

I wouldn't say they are women focused.

I'm also fairly sure that the ads are generated from your google search.

Trueheart1 · 22/10/2017 18:28

Sadly this is not true
www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/36332346/men-only-the-uks-last-strongholds-of-masculinity-as-muirfield-keeps-ban-on-women-members

Also think of all the clubs where women are only allowed in on the sideline like the Masons.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:29

What's showing up on your adverts then Boney? Durex? Gillette? Sky Sports? Playboy?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/10/2017 18:29

I cant believe you did that what Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/10/2017 18:31

I am watching The Empire strikes back after watching Star wars

So imagine my befuddlement when Princess Leia just posted

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:31

So if you like to shop in John Lewis and love Bryan Adams maybe this is indeed the place for you!

Krytens - I know they are men as they have said they are. Plus it's fairly fucking obvious as they have to mark their territory.

Sketchily · 22/10/2017 18:32

Just because the majority of people posting on this thread are agreeing with the sentiment, doesn’t mean the majority of people reading it are agreeing with it.

Just because you agree that a male perspective can be interesting and informed, doesn’t mean you’re a man.

Just because you believe that not all men are potential rapists; violent thugs; arrogant bastards, doesn’t mean you betray the sisterhood.

The viciousness that is displayed towards any kind of dissent to this is evident. Reasoned arguments go out of the window and you are accused of all sorts, including being a troll, man-in-disguise, simpering man-worshipper. Blimey, just allow people to disagree, because they think you’re wrong.

There are many goady fuckers on here and trolls. I don’t believe they’re all men. If you haven’t ever been exposed to female as well as male gf’s in real life I’m amazed!! You won’t eliminate them by just attacking men.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 22/10/2017 18:32

You know rufus, it sort of felt good Halloween Shock. I'm waiting for a thread where everyone's explaining that men don't understand how to do childcare or clean the loo etc and then I'm going to do it again

stitchglitched · 22/10/2017 18:33

FGS nobody is suggesting starting a campaign to ban men from MN. But posters are allowed to express a preference.

PrincessLeia80 · 22/10/2017 18:34

Trueheart1 didn't know there were still a few places nor did hubby personally don't see a problem though. We as women decry the lack of women only space rightly so and yet claim it's unfair that men have the same.

CockacidalManiac · 22/10/2017 18:34

Alright. I was trying not to bite, and I’ll regret this, but fuck it. Some posters trying to ban men from the site seem to have been here a very short time, yet want to renegotiate the rules. I’ve been here for years under different names, but apparently it’s time for me to go away now?

I’ve created useful threads like this, but I can’t stay?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2764894--to-give-people-assistance-with-claiming-PIP

I like it here.

BoneyBackJefferson · 22/10/2017 18:34

Durex? Gillette? Sky Sports? Playboy?

Your pushing some real stereotypical views there.

Unsurprisingly all four are from manufacturers that I would never use or ever consider buying.

JonSnowsWife · 22/10/2017 18:34

Blimey, just allow people to disagree, because they think you’re wrong.

We can't be having that, AIBU would be half empty! Wink

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:36

Also to the mansplainer claiming that adverts are based on your google searches, I think you'll find that they are based on the content of the thread you're on. So if you're on a thread about periods, you'll get adverts for Always. If you're on a thread about movies, you'll get an advert for Sky Movies. If you're on a thread about healthcare, you'll get an advert for Private Healthcare.
